| Quote ="thebloodbath"I find the new batman film franchise (mean and moody) all a bit boring actually.
Probably many won't agree but I found the mid 90's film version of Batman the most enjoyable, Batman Forever. Val Kilmer as Batman, Tommy Lee Jones as Two Faces, Jim Carey who was born to play Riddler and Nicole Kidman for the eye candy. Good cast and the film seemed to read colourfully like the comic books of that era.'"
What about batman and robin film a couple of years later. least said about that the better.
The ultimate batman was clearly 60s batman

That stunk. Don't think I watched it fully. Arnies Mr Freeze was terrible.
The 60's batman, for me, was just too camp.

| The lodgers' game which caused the problems with the pitch has now been ordered to be replayed. So in the end they damaged our £1m investment for no reason
I hear they will be playing the rest of their games away from the stadium until next season.

Hard to see what else Leeds Rugby PLC could do.
The pitch had to be replaced, do you do it & inconvenience the part of the business that attracts crowds of 12k plus or that which attracts siginificantly fewer?
So, not an embarrassment to him but certainly an annoyance.

But the embarrassment for Hetherington, such as it is, comes from the club's communication with the (few) Tykes fans - which is hilariously entertaining to the passing observer until you remember that these guys are also running our club:
1. At the very outset when selling season tickets comically not admitting the reason the Tykes were playing "on the road" (i.e. due to the pitch being relaid). Instead there was a mighty fine story about spreading the club's presence around Yorkshire and reaching out to new fans
2. Having sold the (few) Tykes season tickets with the promise of three (I think) "on the road" games, they then pushed back their Headingley debut until the New Year forcing further two more game to be played away from Headingley.
3. One of those games ended in farce when the pitch at Otley froze and the game was abandoned.
4. Finally there was much hype to their (few) fans at the return to the Home of Rugby League and its megapitch. Hetherington or his assistants should have listened to the groundstaff's reported fears about RU being played on the new surface - the sport duly disgraced itself in a predictable manner. This is why we can't have nice things.
5. That match was deemed void by the RU authorities and will have to be replayed (but it won't be at Headingley).
6. The subsequent home game (the one referred to as "a minor fixture" by Hetherington, pleasing the holders of season tickets who have it included) was switched to South Leeds Stadium, to be played yesterday.
7. The game was then at short notice switched to West Park and yesterday was off (some of the (very few) supporters duly left) before being on again but no detail was posted on the club's website to inform folk of this.
8. Right now they are promising there will be an RU game at Headingley the weekend between the Hull and Salford games but the reality is that no one really thinks they will be allowed to play there until at least after the WCC so another about-face will have to follow in due course.
9. Before that England RU are due to train on our £1m "unsuitable" pitch on 25 January in a well-publicised open-to-the-public training session. It would be excruciating for GH to have to make the call to cancel that due to pitch failure - but it is only 1 week before the SL kick off when the pitch makes its televised debut.

| I'm no gardener or horticulturist, I don't even like lawns and mine is due to be ripped up this summer - but even I know that grass doesn't grow during the winter, especially under ice and snow, in fact it barelt grows between end of October and March, sometimes even April.
If, as a member of the public, you decided to re-lay your lawn in December then you'd find it quite difficult to find a supplier of turf at this time of year, mainly again due to the fact that grass doesn't grow in winter, roots don't grow, don't bind, lay turf in December and go back in February and you'll find you can still lift it up like carpet tiles.
I know all this, and I know fekk-all about gardening.
But obviously someone did a good selling job.
Possibly the person who signed the order has never laid turf in his own garden before ?

| What choice did they have - lay the pitch in the spring/summer and move the Rhinos for the whole of the season or do it in the winter?

Pitch should have been relaid in the spring/summer. Leeds Rhinos don't kick off their season until *September anyway...
*apart from a one-off game in February.

No,they should have changed the rules of nature, erected a huge climate dome over the whole of Headingley (similar to Eden in Cornwall, but bigger) and charged people £20 to come inside and enjoy a sub-tropical winter with the opportunity to buy another special edition shiirt to commemorate the new pitch.

| So they've been digging up the pitch again. I'm sure this is all, as they say, planned. But it's a bit of an eye-opener to the non green fingered amongst us to see it was looking like this just a week or so ago:

Yep, they've done the same to the Carnegie training pitch at Kirkstall.

| I removed all of the grass in my back garden too, this dog was doing such a good job of removing it himself that I thought I might as well get rid - its now covered in bark chippings which stand up to dogs much better.
Maybe the new pitch could be bark chippings ?

| The newly seeded(?) turf was looking pretty good when I looked at it on Saturday whilst I was at the cricket.
But then I thought it looked ok for our last home game.
I was very surprised to read the day after that match that the whole playing area was being removed & replaced in the 4 weeks between then & the next home game.
At least the weather is better for growing grass than when they relayed it in the winter.
I guess at that time & with the ensuing bad weather the roots just did not penetrate deeply enough into the expensively laid substrata.
Hence the need to effectively re-do that work.
Must have cost a few bob that wasn't budgeted for.

| It was still cutting up quite badly at an end of season Carnegie game back in March/April that i went to, long after the amnesty on home games to help the grass establish itself, it was fairly obvious even to a gardening dolt like me that those were turfs that were ripping up that should have bound together by then.
Rugby Union places much higher demands on a pitch than RL and the one that was down last season wasn't up to the job at that time and presumably the summer hasn't helped it (although you'd think it would).
