| We all knew the standards of Child and the fact he is the most whistle happy ref in the game..... (not condoning, or excusing his inept questionable capabilities AND it IS an embarrassment to the game that the likes of he and Alibert in particular command top games in the SL) ....so should the club and its players. Not good, but compare Warrington's discipline to Leeds'. No contest.

| TBH Leeds players are a bit like footballers, gobbling off, surrounding the ref, throwing the ball away when things not going their way. Its not something new its been going on for a few seasons now and it's a shame cos they are a decent team when they are on form. They need to have a look at themselves cos if it hadn't been Child in the middle one of the other refs would have been getting the verbals. ATEOTD Wire were a class above Leeds on the night and will take a good team to beat them.

| The title of thread are exactly the words I used last night, He was in his 1st season a good ref but he is getting more like Ganson for wanting to be in the spotlight, Yes we gave too many penalties away but he needs to be same for both sides, The 2 refs in last weeks origin game were more or less anon although still got odd decision wrong

| Quote ="SmokeyTA"You have exaggerated massively here, Smith was in the process of taking one step forward (and it was a step that was part of him getting up) whilst Hodgson had his hands all over the ball. Smith could easily have played the ball where his standing foot was (behind the line) rather than where his striding foot was(in front of the line). However it should never, and could never have got that far. As soon as Hodgson kept his hands on the ball after the call of held its a penalty for interference, for him to then compound that offence by stripping the ball after Smith had stood up was a penalty for interference or for stripping the ball, take your pick.
That decision, and the decision to punish JJB having been hit with a high tackle and with Morley's arm around his neck was frankly an embarrassing decision. It was very very poor refereering.
The question I would ask is what James Child has done to deserve such a game. What did Stuart Cummins see recently that meant he though Child had earned the opportunity refereeing a game at the top of SL when he has struggled so embarrassingly previously. Sticking with Child when he is so clearly out of his depth isnt good for the game, and isnt good for Child.'"
Whatever you say Smith had moved forward off the mark which on its own is an offence punishable with a penalty to Warrington. Plus, as I metioned to another poster, have a look at the VT for many neutral views of Child's performance - the neutrals all agree he had a good game.

Then we should of 60+ penalties a match because 99% of the time the player in possesion gets up and steps forward at least 1 pace to ptb stop talking bollox the ball was stripped and the Ref got it wrong.
As i replied earlier lets see how many "neutrals" rate Mr Child when they get that level of performance in their games.
We lost to the better team and the penalties we conceded were fair calls BUT there are 2 teams playing any game of RL and the consistency and missing/ignoring of blatant straight forward offences by the whistle blower was poor and it's another indication that Cummings is not fit for purpose or up to task in his role as the head of officials.

Ganson sent a player off last week and has got a weekend of no refereeing duties.
Wonder if Mr Child will be back running the line next week?
(I'm not saying we would have won with another referee BTW)

| I was hoping with the game being on Sky and a large number of people watching, that he was going to have a complete nightmare and show what an awful match official he really is! Sadly, you couldn't fault him really. There was only the ball-strip on Lee Smith that he got wrong. Its not that James Child gets everything wrong, he's just inconsistent and loves the sound of a whistle. Mind you, he has cost us in a few games already this season! TJ is enough for him I think, never mind get a major game like Leeds v Wire!

| Just the arguing the Ref back and silly decisions let you down.
The thing is though,Quite alot off decisions went against Leeds unfairly and the Ref was,nt very good.
Easily said and always gets a mention but this is the case this time.

| He didn't have a good game for either side.... what was the penalty count in the first half, he seemed to just keep giving Leeds penalties every set in the final 20 mins of the first half, for next to nothing most the time.
The hit on Mcguire for instance was never late, that was 5th tackle I think, gave Leeds a penalty there, Buderus bouncing it of course, didn't penalise Leeds players when they were chucking the ball away.
Poor performance, but poor for both teams.

| How can a referee let a player standing 3 yards infront of him, right under his nose, away with offside and allow him to touch down and award a drop out. To add to it all he has a word with player warning him of offside. He should blow for offside which is the greater advantage for the attacking side.
That one instance highlights that Childs should be nowhere near a SL game. He also failed to protect JJB from a head high shot. He has a duty of care to protect players on the pitch.
It's interesting that Warrington fans talk of composure. They have obviously quickly forgoten Briers and all his dummy spits!

| I wouldn't call this the James Child show but... One or two things perhaps changed the momentum of the game:
1. The Lee Smith Ball steel. Incredibly obvious. IF he couldnt see it surely the TJ could??? We were on top and looking dangerous. Momentum shift moment.
2. The JJB dissent bit. First, nearly all wire players weren't back the 10, then Mozza cops JJB with a high shot/grapple. That picked up wouldn't have caused JJB to mouth off. (Which no players should of course)
One thing that narks me about this year is players (of all clubs) moving off the mark and it not getting picked up. Makes the markers not look square and gives the dummy half more room to scoot.
All this aside, Wire were brilliant last night and would probably have beaten most sides. If Michael Monahan isn't Man of Steel i'll be amazed.
Roll on Saints next week....

| Childs' biggest issue is his inconsistency during the game. He will hammer the slowing down of the PTB for a while, then leave it. Frustrating all players and fans.
He isn't ready to ref SL.
