| Quote ="William Eve"Are you seriously suggesting there isn't a single England qualified player throughout the entirety of SL who hasn't performed better than the can't-be-@rsed tripe that Watkins has served up this season?'"
Whereas I was regularly critical of Watkins this season, because he wasn't at the races for the majority of the season, he did come into form towards the end and this did include performances against top of the table Hull and Wigan. I think that his problem is a mental one becasuse when his attitude is positive he had all the skills to be world class. So as the form centre he has to make the team otherwise it means playing a second row type player with no foot or hand skills.

While that may well be true, but Watkins had started to look sharper and faster too. But you could also claim it coincided with Hardaker leaving the dressing room and taking his negativity with him.

Watkins is very frustrating because you can clearly see the guy has everything to set him apart from almost all in his position worldwide, yet he can go missing for not just spells in games but weeks in seasons.
I do think he will be extra motivated to do well though for England in the upcoming games, i hope he does.

Watkins

Though to be fair any combination of that 19 should be good enough to beat the French.

Its not really about beating the French, it is more about getting your combinations sorted, thats why I don't understand resting a couple from the GF as he seems to have done with Hill and Bateman.
The only change I would make to the 17 you said would be putting Ward in over Farrell. Ward and Watkins had a good combination on the right for us last year and imo Farrel isn't physically strong enough when playing against NZ or Aus especially playing next to percival so we are better off with Whitehead on that side.

England Victorious in French FriendlyEngland travelled to the Parc-des-Sports in Avignon for a, pre-four nations, warm up game, the first under the custodianship of Wayne Bennett. Bennett gave five players their England debuts to herald the start of a new era; St Helens' Mark Percival and Jonny Lomax, Hull FC's Scott Taylor, Castleford's Luke Gale, and Stefan Ratchford of Warrington. Stevie Ward missed out on the seventeen after being a late addition to the squad.
This was an important build-up game ahead of the four nations with Australia, New Zealand and Scotland which gets underway next weekend and expectations were high for a big England win against a France side which was essentially the Catalans Dragons.

I think I'd go with that from the 19. Although I would be tempted to play widdop at 1 with Williams coming in at 6.

Snap.
Should be Farrell to have a genuine 2nd row option on the bench.

That team is absolutely huge!
Its pretty risky, if the forward have the engine for it we could smash the kiwis off the park, but if they don't then Shaun Johnson will have a field day running through the middle

Bennett has confirmed that Williams and Farrell are the two to miss out so looks like that will be the team give or take any possible changes in who starts and who is on the bench.

yeah i think you can only have one lightweight backrower on the 17 against the giant Aussies and Kiwis and despite Farrell being in form, Bateman is the correct choice imo.

True but cooper isn't a back rower meaning we only have Bateman and whitehead as out and out back rowers. All other forwards are more props than back row. Except slamming Sam who can obviously play anywhere in the pack.

Which is exactly what he did vs France & is how Hodgson is used in the NRL by the Raiders.

If he does that with Sam Burgess presumably going to 2nd row it still begs the question of where does he play Cooper? 5 props in a 17 is unnecessary and you'll end up struggling to give them all decent minutes.

Graham will do big minutes as that is his game. Hill could be it will be nice to use him in short bursts. Burgess twins aswell, absolutely smash in for short stints in the knowledge they will get a few breathers. Whitehead and Bateman are machines and are unlikely to need a break but if they do then Sam to back row and Cooper to loose. I reckon we have all bases covered whilst having the luxury pf keeping our big units fresh.

| Let's hope we can attack the side where Kenny-Dowall defends, he was woeful in attack & defence against the Aussies in the Kiwis last game.
The Aussies also kept Johnson quiet & Leuluai is not the most creative halfback although he's very good in defence.
It seems to me it'll be our pack vs theirs & whoever comes out on top in that battle will win.
It will be a game of big hits, I hope both sides keep the tackles down.
