Perhaps GH could break out one of his kick up the backside speeches? Much like the when he questioned if the previous squad had run its course? I'll change my statement from something has to change, to something different has to be done.

Not sure how giving McDermott the remainder of the season is going to help. The season is dead and buried. If he is going to have a successor then surely better now so that the new coach has chance to assess, develop and work with what he has for the start of the 2017 season.
By keeping McDermott at the helm, who has obviously ran out of ideas, the season is just going to limp on into a possible poor showing in the middle 8's ...to the point that even that could - the gods forbid - turn turtle

| Quote ="Barrie's Glass Eye"Yeah, defense is definately the bigger problem, in most games this year we've scored enough points to win. It all stems from our trouble controlling the ruck (so do the penalties, the ones that aren't from lazy high shots).
It annoys me because a good 70% of defense is down to effort, and from a lot of the players, and worryingly the senior ones more than youngsters or fringe players, there has been a lack of effort and pride in the shirt. To be fair some like Cuthbo, Hardaker and JJB have tried too hard which is also a problem, whether with the other players it is some complex your or in the case of new arrivals not buying into the club I don't know.
What I do know is something has to change, now in this game you can change a lot of players, or one man the coach, and unfortuantely for Mac, we all know which route teams go down first.'"
As a Cas fan I would agree whole heartedly that Zac, Cuthbo, and JJB are trying too hard.
One thing I have noticed on the televised game is that none of the senior players seems to be able to get a response when trying to gee the players up. Some of the younger players who are without doubt very talented don't seem to take kindly to on field rollockings.

| We were awful with the rare & very odd bright spark of invention.
Singo 18th man Baldwinson nowhere near yet Achurch starts L.Briscoe on the bench?
Season over deserved to lose just to add though if the Refs controllers are consistent Thaler can book a long W/E away next week he was as bad as we were.
P.s-Time to go Bri!

1st of all both Singo & Cuthbo are comfortable at 13 & secondly Achurch does t warrant a shirt.

Better a 4 prop bench than a 2 poop (Briscoe and Achurch) bench ......

13 is essentially a third prop. Trust me I don't want to see Achurch in the 17 but you have to have different roles/variety on your bench.

So how would you have altered the lineup mid-match if one of the backs/halves/hooker got injured and Briscoe wasn't on the bench? Baldwinson to stand off and Singleton to wing?

Tonight was woeful. Nobody very good, attack is hopeless. We are relying on interceptions and one-off breaks. The need for a hooker who can make 30-40 tackles a game is critical. This pack has too many poor and/or slow forwards to cope. If this injury nightmare goes on, this team can go down IMHO

If you're going to use them wisely maybe....with our coach you can't even be sure he will use them at all.
Whichever way you look at it Achurch, Briscoe and Walters all got selected ahead of Singleton and Baldwinson ..... I know which ones I would prefer more in my 17 as players capable of offering something other than making up the numbers (and not even sure Achurch qualifies on that score).
Regardless....I see no sign that this coach can do anything now about the malaise(s) affecting this team. How much longer is he going to be given?

Ha ha. Burrow god forbid can cover the halves; a number of forwards can cover the DH (JJB has def played there) and Ferres could probably cover at centre. Anyway it's a funny way to approach a match. "Well we're a bit thin on the ground with decent players, but just in case we might get an injury in the backs I will select some poor hapless, previously lost in the wilderness individual; or indeed put a call out for Joe Vickery - he's a 'back' isn't he?"

You've been one of the biggest critics in the past about "sticking square pegs in round holes" in terms of selection when somebody is played out of position yet you now just want what would effectively be a teamsheet with 7 props in it (Cuthbertson, Galloway, Garbutt, Mullally, JJB, Singleton, Baldwinson)......and some on here this year dare say the balance of the squad is wrong.
Quote ="Nantwich Exile"Regardless....I see no sign that this coach can do anything now about the malaise(s) affecting this team. How much longer is he going to be given?'"
I'd guess a mid season announcement about moving him on ala Powell, McClennen etc. with a replacement for 2017 announced afterwards. Can't see him going mid season, all this talk about letting a new guy come in now so he can hit 2017 running and challenge for trophies and take this squad forward over the next few years......I don't think their's exactly many coaches free mid-season who fulfil that criteria.

It's a lot more sensible than picking 7 props and possibly ending up with JJB at dummy half.

Leaving singo out seemed odd to me. Best guess from me is Hardaker not right so briscoe on bench to cover but God knows. We would have lost tonight regardless. More props would have made us even slower.

| Team needs a new voice. Sinny and Peacock leaving has left a huge hole. BMD may not be s "bad" coach, but something fresh needs to start now if we are to be competitive for next year. Some talented players are to bits confidence wise and some promising youngsters are floundering. Without our two legends the coach doesn't seem to have enough to lift things.
We also desperately need a hooker, it's just the most important position in the modern game. Clean delivery from acting half and a strong midfield defender. We play with 5 forwards, it's nuts (and not necessarily down to the coach - I would be amazed if Brian hadn't been begging for a decent 9).
This is shaping up to be the clubs worst season since two divisions were introduced.

| Despite the injuries, if you could see some improvement, it would not be so bad , but tonite we were awful - no tactics , errors all over the place , unfit players and the biggest piece of s**t in Super League , Aichurch still getting picked.
We need to rebuild - now is the time for Mac to go - new coach in & start recruiting / sorting out for next season, because this is one is dead & buried.
Our minimum requirements - a class hooker / decent halfback & a running 2nd rower- over to GH -
we need to spend.

He (MA) offers nothing at least Singo/Cuthbo playing 13 gives our pack a better chance v theirs imo.

I agree. Last week I came away thinking how have we lost that. This week we were never in it. And make no mistake, Huddersfield are a poor side, which makes this even worse, and highlights just how poor we are.
What the hell goes on in training? It's not like it's a dip in form, or something not gelling, it is the very same issues week after week after week. The same errors, the same missed tackles. This same coach seems to arrogantly say week after week the same thing, yet doesn't seem to have it within him to fix a problem, so why the arrogance.
I won't go into how poor certain players were, as in truth I thought they all were crap, and those that stood out were simply doing that because those around them were even worse. I am glad we we were knocked out though early, and there is no sticking plaster over how poor we are. If the club don't react to this and change things properly, then it ain't just going to be next season repeating this one.
And Thaler was horrendous, a very inconsistent display within a single match.

I agree, but if the right man does become available, and personally i hope we look overseas to a guy that can come in knowing little about the players so we can start afresh clean slate and all that, then we must move. The rest of this year is pretty much a sleep walk now no matter what others worrying about middle 8s say.
