Perhaps because there are good young players out there capable of being at least squad players in SL but currently attached to NL clubs?
What little I've seen of Coady for example, he looks like he has the tools to play at a higher level. Whether he can convert that with the right guidance is an unknown, but gambles like that are the reason players like Ian Kirke, Ade Gardner and Paul Deacon have the medals they've got.

Danny Brough would definately fill that description..
Seriously though, I think there is a lot of quality beef in the lower divisions that would go well with improved training and playing at a higher level with better half backs etc. My favourite example is Darren Fleary.
Backs though tend to be more conspicuous. I doubt there are too many rough diamonds waiting to be polished up - pace tends to be fairly obvious.

He was, the other one is the young kid McNally who signed for Huddersfield from under the noses of our tactical forward thinking stooges at HQ.
Instead Leeds are stuck with a backwards moving 7 who is starting to look a little punch drunk.

| Ask yourself this about McNally though.
If he is genuinely going to be that good, why had no other SL club moved to bring him on board before the Giants did?
Even in deepest, darkest Cumbria talented kids don't go unspotted by SL clubs as they come through the Service Area system.

That's almost impossible to answer Andy, a lot depends on how he is coached I guess and whether he physically and mentally can make that step up.
In terms of no other club looking at him, I aren't too sure on that either, maybe its the obsession with oversees 7s and with it being such a pivotal role clubs are risk averse?

Other clubs did look to get him onboard.
Leeds had him on trial twice for example, and got complacent thinking they had him in the bag.
He went to Huddersfield because it fits in best with his studies, which is something outside of the game.

Is that the same Danny Brough that I said to you only yesterday we shouldn't touch with a bargepole?
Kirke has been a relative success at Leeds, and is probably one of the better value for money players at the club.

He's not ready for SL and I'm sure he'd admit that himself.
He floats his passes, goes missing in games and makes a lot of wrong choices in attack and defence.
If he ends up being good enough he'll end up at Leeds anyway.

Danny Brough is a good scrum half, but comes with far too much baggage. Still I suppose, over the years, lots of good 7's have had their "problems". I still maintain he shouldn't be on our radar as a potential recruit.

The point was he is illustrative of the kind of talent that can be unearthed from the lower leagues.

Ian Scott: "Yes"
Mate: "I can't wait to see you playing next year"
Ian Scott: "Cheers mate"
