| Quote ="SmokeyTA"Exactly. And if we had seen a bedsy or a JP move then we could complain.
But we haven't. I could understand if we were missing out on can Smith or Isaac luke, James Graham or George Burgess but we aren't. We are talking about Larne Patrick and Ashton Sims. We shouldn't break the bank for them not because of some stubbornness and loyalty to our system but because these players aren't worth breaking the bank for.
If Ali Lauitiiti mark 2 is available and we aren't in for him, I'll be the first one criticising, im just not sure why we are getting all upset because we missed out on some pretty average players'"
Daryl Clark would fall into that category for me - the most exciting young player to emerge in SL since Sam Tomkins, the fact we weren't in for him is shows the CEO is too loyal to a group of players who are all in decline together.
Patrick would have been a good addition to our squad - sadly once again we seem out the picture there too

| Greg Eastwood, and Tom Briscoe are elite players, and Hardaker has developed into one...
The problem is you can't have it both ways. You can't make big signings and also expect the younger players to be given more game time. Kirke and Bailey have gone, and Cuthbertson has come in, and Singleton has moved up the pecking order (which is what many on here were asking for). However, now that it appears Singleton will move up the pecking order the same people whom wanted that are bemoaning the fact that another prop hasn't been signed which would reduce the opportunities available to players like Singleton and Mulhearn. We have 6 props, 3 of whom are high level first graders and another 3 young props with bags of potential.

| Quote ="rhinoms"Smokey i completely disagree that Sims and Patrick are average players one is a proven frontline NRL forward and the other a good young powerful Prop with Bags of SL experience and his best years ahead of him either would walk into this team and imo replace Kylie with ease now.
Also who is moaning?
It's clear this squad needs strengthening and many are pointing that out whilst also dismissing the BS PR from Hetherington its hardly moaning when it's obvious what we need!'"
If we were to replace Peacock with someone of Sims quality I would be hugely disappointed. I'd rather have Cuthbertson than Sims.
Patrick is a decent player, don't think he is anything more than that though. Yeah he would get in leeds side but a 1 year loan is not a long term solution.

1 yr loan is a precursor to a permanent move.
Cuthbertson is no Matt Scott I would say him and Sims are on a par

Clark is a good player. He is 'the one that got away' no doubt we missed put on him.
But it is possible he came available at the wrong time. Last year we won the cc and we're in it for the lls and GF before a massive loss of form saw us fall away
To get Clarke may have meant blowing the thing up and starting again. I'm not sure that's the right decision when we have this gradual succession going on, and let's be honest a squad with 1 or 2 trophies still in them.

We don't have a gradual succession going on - this squad needs a miracle cup draw to have any trophies in them - unless you mean the festive challenge and the Lazenby Cup ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

Even if we accept that premise, then I can't see the fuss. Our signing there is on par with Warrington, whilst Wigan are needing to pad their forward line out with dross like Tautai and Mossop. Saints have lost Laffranchi and the outstanding Soliola and replaced them with Vea who runs really hard and really fast but can't tackle and gives away penalties like a drunk lottery winner. Him and Mosoe on the field together will get torn apart by a Burrow or Clark.
So yeah we have a few players filling gaps in the pack. Who doesn't.

| One of Sims' reasons to join Warrington was to work with Tony Smith.

I think clark signed for Wire mid way through the 2013 season and was loaned back to Cas for this last season as part of the deal.At that time we were in for Aiton so i don't think we ever really had him on our radar at all.
A great signing by Warrington, who reacted quickest when an opportunity arose.we seem to have lost that bit of magic as a club with the kind forward thinking show by wire in the transfer market and have got very complacent,GH should have his feelers out right now for top signings in place by next summer or we will continue picking up the dregs.

| Quote ="Sal Paradise"You miss the point - the recruitment at Leeds appears to have been very last minute and reactionary. The fact Leeds were in for Mossop suggests planning hasn't gone as well as it should have done. Leeds are now in a position where they are vulnerable - if they want a top player, the player and his agent know there is an air of desperation. If you are as rigid as it would appear Leeds are you will never attract the best players - Daryl Clark will be on more money at Warrington that Kevin Sinfield/Jamie Peacock will be on at Leeds and I would imagine it would have one of the stumbling blocks to Leeds not being in the race for him.'"
Has the recruitment really been last minute though? The only player we've definately been in for (Mossop) was someone who obviously only became available at the end of the season when the Eels decided to cut their losses on him. He wasn't one that was readily available around May/June time.....he suddenly became so, so we gave it a crack.

Tautai is a very good signing for Wigan and if he stays injury free will create a lot of go forward, he's got a good step, off load game and lots of pace for someone who is 6 ft 3" tall and nearly 18 stone.
Wonder if Leeds wil be going in for Dudson like they were Mossop?

I tend to agree with you. I am no apologist for GH but don't think we have done too bad. Next year is the acid test with how we replace JP and Kylie. How do we know we haven't got some top quality players lined up for 2016 but have had to curtail spending to make sure we have cap space for next year?
The biggest mistake IMO is not getting a decent assistant coach, it started to feel stale last year think we could do with some new ideas

I agree, an assistant was the one appointment I wanted to see.
Because people have seen several names on here banded about like Lunt, Burgess, Taylor and even Paul Gallen then they get the incorrect impression that we have tried and failed left, right and centre to sign them.....when in reality there's no evidence apart from "my mate said" that we ever went after these players......and now you only have to read the last few pages to see that it's created a misguided sense in people's minds that we can't attract players to join us, when in reality we missed out on one who understandably preferred his hometown team.

Its the club he's learned his rugby and was part of for several years since he was a junior, so it's very understandable when he picks them over another club.
As ThePrinter says Mossop is the only confirmed approach and failure. We seem to have a thing for last minute recruits in recent years. Vickery and Lunt came in late for positions that needed filling. Hauraki and Moon were announced late in the year, so i don't think it's panic stations at the club yet.

Me personally, I couldn't care less who or if on links, or any rumours, what I do care about is that this team needed strengthening badly, and that hasn't changed. The club should have been doing that six months ago. The point you and some others are missing, and nothing to do with rumours, is that the club have realised it now too, but far too late.
I agree by the way on the assistant, but would have preferred further, and a new head.

It is exactly to do with rumours because saying the club has realised it now can't surely be based solely on us trying to sign one prop who got released early from his NRL deal.

No it's not. And the release came because the player asked for it, on the back of an offer from Leeds, who then lost out to Wigan. Not to mention them losing out on Huby too to an higher offer earlier this year.

That's correct. At that time I don't think many people recognised just how good Clark was going to be. In some ways then he was still behind the overrated Milner.

Ok then, prove both were facts then. Should be some quotes/links if both are true.
