| Quote ="The Ghost of '99"This continual desire to put down Rugby League because it's not rugby union perplexes me. Rugby League stands on its own merits, it's always been a smaller sport and, yes, sometimes union will have more money.
But hating on Rugby League simply for being Rugby League, with its essential characteristics, seems a strange position to take.'"
I don't know how you managed to interpret some simple facts as "hating" or putting league down. The sports have transferrable skills and many ex-league professionals are transferring them. We're talking about Union because that's the story of the thread.
It's funny how people talk about Union being "bigger" than League, the first RU WC wasn't held until 1987 and they didn't even have a league structure in England until the 1980's.

| An inspiring person and someone we all should hope stays in rugby league. Ideally as an influential administrator at the top of the game one day, it could certainly use his values and integrity.

| If Sinfield AND Agar are leaving, thats pretty big. Not sure what it says for the club. Have they just been offered “cant turn down” opportunities or is there another reason?
Either way, the last 2 years “rebuild” coupled with the current climate, it looks as if we might be back to square one.

| If Sinfield goes he’ll do so with all my well wishes, he’s earned the right to do whatever he wants in his career, however I can’t say that I wouldn’t be disappointed, I don’t feel he’s finished the job he set out to do and it’s not through any fault of his own, he’s made mistakes, everyone does but I think external factors will have hampered a lot of what he wanted to achieve same goes for Agar to be fair.
Sinfield leaving would be a blow for our club but a far bigger loss to the whole sport IMO

Sad, but life goes on. Wonder if they will offer Agar the role? Club desperately needs some stability.

Wouldnt be suprised if they offer JP the role, not sure I would, but hes done similar at KR and hes at the club. Its a big blow for all the reasons Christopher has given.
Kevin owes Leeds nothing for all hes done for the club and he has to do whats right for him and his family.

| Would be very disappointing but could never begrudge Sinfield after everything he has done for Leeds.
As for JP to come in, absolutely not. World class player but not bright enough to run a top club.

| I'll be sad to see him go (if he does). It's hard to know how much of an impact it might have. So far I'd say he has restored the club's culture but is still some way off restoring its fortunes

| Are we certain he's jumping and not pushed? Club has taken a financial pounding over the last 18 months, Sinfield is a £150k-£200k cost they can release without affecting things too much, especially if Hetherington doesn't plan to retire for another decade.
I remain of the view that his departure is more symbolic than important at this stage - his period in the current role has been mixed at best and if he wasn't who he was there would be a lot more pressure aimed in his direction.

| Well there often isn't smoke without first with these things so I'm expecting both to be leaving TBH. Very hard to see how we're going to shape up now for next year, but on the plus side we do have the basis of a very good squad developing now and maybe some new voices will help the young lads kick on.
Anyway good luck to both because as others have said, KS is and always will be a club legend. Agar has done a really solid job in a challenging position too. It's very important we find the right coach - we need someone in the Graham Murray/Brian McDermott/Tony Smith mould. Not sure whether Sean Long gets the job though, that wouldn't surprise me. We need to top coach (or really talented assistant looking for a step up) - but particularly with such a young squad. The most important thing is the education and support for players like Mik, Newman etc. because these boys could be the future of the club for 10 years.

It'll be absolutely crippling them. No doubt there is a hope the government loans will be turned into grants at some stage.
On top of government support the club has been given access to a new line of credit from Caddick Group which is helping to keep things going but no club will have been as badly affected as Leeds by all this.
