| Quote ="batleyrhino"TVOC, was the Cummins debut a two try affair V HKR?'"
It was, 2 tries from the bench and a nicely posed photo at the final whistle featuring the 4 Leeds youngsters (Cummins, Holroyd, Cook and Vassilakopoulos) given their wings by Doug Laughton.
Quote ="batleyrhino" I seem to remember both him and Holroyd scoring two tries on their debuts, but obviously in different games. Oh and wasn't one of the Holroyd tries scored with only one boot on from about 30 yards out?'"
It was. V Sheffield (6 months prior to Cummins during the season before), filling in for Schofield who was away on International duty in France IIRC. The one boot scoot to the South Stand/Western Terrace corner following an interception.
Redundant at last.

Oh and as far as you being redundant, not in my lifetime old bean.

I guess I might have fooled a few but not a wily old fox like you.
Picking a 'best' try is beyond my ken. The 'best' tries for me are ones that turn potential agonising defeats into glorius uplifting victories. Step forward the likes of John 'Sammy' Sanderson, 'Slammin' Sam Backo and 'Deadly' Medley etc.

I liked it when Paul Newlove dropped the ball over his own line for Hanley to score
'That's £250 000* worth of talent dropping the ball over his own line there!'

Certainly a contender amongst the opposition scores at Headingley.
Almost all? Senior and Furner missed their tackle, Carney then evaded McDonald's outstretched arm after which it was basically a footrace to the line with him keeping Mathers and Cummins at bay.
70 metres? How about 91 metres and that was if he'd taken a direct route which obviously he didn't.
Under the posts? Only if the posts were moved 10 metres to the left.
None of which diminishes the score which was absolutely fantastic in a crucial intense fixture. Had Calderwood not been dropped by Powell after his poor showing at Odsal the previous week perhaps that score could have been prevented but not a lot anyone can do about that now.

| What year was the Mcguire try scored against Wigan which he raced on to a kick through, from Sinny i think or maybe Dunners, to level the scores right at the end of the match, only for Sinny to miss the kick? Anyone? Have tried the usual web steaming sites but can't seem to see it.

Leicester is correct, here is the opening extract from the YEP match report:
[size=150Fans give up…but Rhinos are still going strong[/size
=#80000016th August 2003
[iThe final 11 minutes of Leeds Rhinos' exhilarating clash with Wigan Warriors were among the most dramatic seen at Headingley in the Super League era. Sadly many Rhinos fans in the 14,019 crowd missed the nerve tingling finale as they gave up on their side's season a little too early. Wigan looked like closing the gap on second-placed Rhinos to just three points with five rounds to play when they led 24-14 going into the game's final stages. Rhinos gave themselves hope with five minutes left when Rob Burrow and Andrew Dunemann linked to send Matt Adamson over and Kevin Sinfield narrowed the gap to four points with a successful conversion. =#FF0000Then Dunemann played a one-two with Keith Senior, burst into open space and kicked ahead for spring-heeled substitute Danny McGuire to chase. The youngster out-paced the Wigan cover and then did brilliantly to collect the ball a metre short of the line before diving jubilantly over to level the scores. Sinfield had the chance to win the game with the conversion attempt half way in from the touchline on the Rhinos' left flank, but he sent his kick agonisingly wide. When Danny Tickle scampered over from Stephen Wild's pass with six minutes left that prompted a blue and amber stampede towards the exits. Many fans were already outside the ground when video referee Geoff Berry ruled the ball had been stolen from Rhinos winger Mark Calderwood in a three-man tackle and the touchdown was ruled out – Adamson's try coming on the attack from the resulting penalty. Just moments before that Calderwood thought he had put Adamson over, only for Berry to rule he had been tackled into touch by Shaun Briscoe before he got his pass away. Remarkably, this was the second 24-24 draw between Leeds and Wigan at Headingley this year, following their first Super League meeting in May.

Christ, time does dim just how good Hanley was. I was at the Northern Fev game & didn't think Hanley was that fast at the time. IMO his try against Saints where he ghosts through a packed defence in the CC final is better.

Quality try, but the discussion is about the best every try scored at Headingley.

Swiftcorn is a moron and not worthy of correction. He emulates AP but is a pale shadow of the truly great man himself.
On which subject and somewhat off topic, it was to my great dismay that there was no elitist cliquey curry night organized last Yule. Though I was not, of course, dismayed enough to get off my arris and do owt about it myself.

I must reprimand Bradford lad & get him to arrange something cliquey, probably a couple of miles south of the ground where Hanley scored one of the best ever tries seen there. I've not yet properly celebrated the 4 classic tries scored at HQ beach on a foggy early February Friday night last year.
