Myler isn't a very good halfback. He's got lovely touches every now and then but is a player who floats in and out of the game, which is why in he's been much better from fullback. While he adds a touch of class his all-round game at fullback just isn't as good as Hardaker's either. I don't see him in our best starting 13 if Hardaker stays and Sezer starts playing up to his billing.

It's whether Smith perceives myler to have a better influence on the game than sutcliffe too and whether the first line of defence would benefit from hardakers presence v saints.

Not sure why you'd make multiple moves to get rid of Sutcliffe? He's hardly a star but he's not generally a major weakness either. If I were Smith I'd be concentrating on best players in their best positions. Assuming (touch wood) Sezer starts to show more than he did earlier, I can't see any reason for not going Hardaker full back, Austin and Sezer at 6 and 7. Anything else just means shifting players out of their best positions to solve other problems, which generally leads to a mess.

Regardless, one reason we've struggled is that we've had no continuity in the spine. We need the first choice to play together and build combinations. My feeling is that Myler will become a utility sub, which may suit him anyway as he can float around when he comes on.

Its not really multiple moves, it's hardaker to centre myler to fb. Anyway I don't know what he will go with, just adding to the debate and its one of those that without seeing whats gone on in practice and how they're wanting to approach saints in particular could be a possibility. Smith did choose to bring up hardakers versatility in his presser.

One thing I would be really dubious of is a 'utility' fb/half/(at a big push)9, on the bench, we can't afford to carry one of those in our subs. The only change to your spine you want to intentionally make during a game is hooker and that's not myler.

My preference would be Hardaker at full back but Rohan did allude to Hardaker playing elsewhere.

Pretty much agree. No value in picking from strength if you then put players in positions to which they're semi-suited at best. No, for me Smith should go with Zak or Myler - not both.

Yep his limited minutes so far suggest you are right. I like Dwyer's attitude but a decent defence neutralises him very easily. Johnson is the future

I don't mind overlooking players who are leaving out of the squad so long as we have backup. I'd like to win every game but Smith will want to focus on players who will be here next year. Despite his quiet demeanour its clear Smith is here to get results, and its nice to feel there's a bit of a ruthless side to him after so long flapping around.

Im not sure wether to go tonight - I have a ticket but not sure I can face another long trip back after another Saints beating. Ive got the house and the TV to myself so might just watch it on TV!!
