If Golding was seen as anywhere near 1st choice 17 he'd be in the squad for tomorrows game he isnt so that says plenty.

| I really hope Golding stays, in what position I don't really know though. I would not expect to see Walters,Ormondroyd or Mullally anywhere near the starting 17 though.

| Don't think we've got the depth in the front row for Mullally to away from the 17 for too long.

| That's the point I was trying to make wrt a salary capped sport.
I'm sure Golding won't be on that much and to get rid wouldn't imo save us much on the cap.
Whereas Sutcliffe would be on much more.

Wouldn't argue though which player offers the better value? Bearing in mind most clubs will have the bulk of their playing budget already committed, it might be that the club view is that AG would be the easier to shift.

| Golding.Mullally,Ormandroyd and Walters are probably taking £130k to £200k of cap space betwen them
Are these players worth that amount of money on our salary cap?
Golding is the only one worth keeping IMO

Golding got a brand new 5yr contract & the no1 shirt not long ago so im sure his wage reflects that.

I'd be surprised if they were on that much - I can tell you with absolute assurance, one of our 'golden generation' got offered less than a quarter of £130k to carry on playing at Leeds. I can't imagine Leeds would have offered any of those players a bigger contract than that offered to a club legend.

Don't agree with your logic. Furner will soon see that Handley is tackle shy and has suspect hands and the Newman is not ready yet.
Golding is a good rugby player with all round SL skills in 3 positions and 2 of these are core positions.
Walker is unlikely to remain injury free so unless you move our new stand off each time we need Golding. Sutcliffe is not the answer.

So you dont agree with Furners logic because he has said on olenty of occasions todays selection represents what he sees as his best available squad.
Also T.Briscoe will be picked over Newman but the youngster is obviously rated highly enough to get in over Golding.
You should also be aware the Golding was on the list of players available to leave shoild Clubs cone in for them.
Finally not once have i mentioned Suttcliffe either.

Unless his wage goes up each year starting on a relatively low wage 35/40k first year increasing to possibly 90/100k year 5 hence why we were prepared to listen to offers.
Agree Sutcliffe must not be used as cover should Walker get injured nor should we move Lolohea to cover full back and put Sutcliffe in to cover stand off.
Hence why for me we need to keep Golding as the natural cover at FB.

I would have thought McClelland or even cam Smith are cover for halfback if lolohea has to go to Fullback, or even Watkins goes to Fullback if walker gets injured, as we can cover centre easier. That assumes Golding us not wanted at any level.
But naybe Golding is at Fev to play consistently at Full back to keep the pressure on Walker or to step straight in it required. Better for Golding and the club if he is playing fullback evey week at Fev than sat in the stands waiting for a chance. After all dual reg is essentially our reserve side.

It is your 2+ 2 = 5 logic I do not agree with.
This is a friendly game and Furner will want to see as many players under pressure before he chooses his best team.

You don't think today's squad had a distinctly first team look about it?

Yes but this will be the first time Furner has seen some of his squad play seeing them in a full contact match will help him see their strengths and weaknesses.

| Was a good quality game of Rugby personally thought Leeds were the better side especially in second half(might be being bias) but only friendly no harm done. Hurrell was outstanding in his first game for us Handley or whoever players outside him this year will bag a hat full if tries because he attracts so much attention with ball in hand, Watkins gave a good stint and hopefully see him back to his best this coming season, Newman was a weak point in the air Cas scored 2 or 3 tries from kicks he failed to deal with but he's only Young and not even naturally a winger and could be a great prospect for us. Merrin didn't have his best game but first game for him in months and will be good for us this year. I hope we don't go with Sutcliffe and Ferres as our starting back rowers though this year that's our weakest pairing imo with the likes of Ablett, Ward and Smith miles better options than them two. Think we'll go well this year might not win any silverware but I'd back us to be there or there abouts.

Cas were miles better than us first half, but we were better second half. Should have won comfortably in that last ten minutes. We look fitter at least.
How in this world they announced Handley MOM I don’t know, thought he was poor. Cuthbertson and Hurrell were easily our most outstanding players. It was a good job Cuthbertson came on as we were really struggling up to then.
The second row were really poor. The obsession with Tui constantly looking flat ball to Sutcliffe was getting frustrating. I don’t think Sutcliffe could break is way out of a paper bag.
That try to Moors looked absolutely ridiculous from the ref, who followed up his Boxing Day display with another.
We should have took the two though to get at least a fair result.

Only players today he hasn't seen in a game are Hurrell Merrin & Parcell.
Nothing in pre-season both in selection & what DF has said matches your higher than thou opinion.
This was our only 1st Team game only players who would have got in are T.Briscoe & possibly Ablett.
If Golding was anywhere near the 1st 17 or even 20 he'd have been in todays squad no 2 + 2 = 5 logic thats the facts as DF has layed them out.
