Cas vs Saints should've been lined up to be a cracker with Saints new coach against the league leaders, but Cas are resting a lot of their big guns for it now.

I've said before the problems with trying to fit in more international rugby into our calendar but too many didn't want to hear it, imagine if we tried fitting in 3/4 internationals mid season.

not last night gotcha. leighs 4th game in 12 games. leeds 3rd, and as well documented the players were needlessly flogged on Monday. both teams were shattered, it was a filthy night and child was reffing.
it was never going to be good. last night 2 points was all that mattered.

It's obviously unrealistic to expect players to be able to give top notch performances with that intensity of matches, but is it really an excuse for it being that bad? It's not that long ago GB played on the Saturday & the players backed up for their clubs on the Sunday.
I do wonder whether the coaches agreed beforehand to a low level work out. Cas seem to have accepted they are likely to lose to Saints tomorrow.

Wakey' a real 4 pointer. McDermott pig headedness arrogance and damn right stubenness as cost us too many regular round games and is regular round record is not good, really think regardless of what happens this year we need a fresh approach and fresh ideas next year.

Had this been something factored in years and years ago we could have perhaps found a much better solution. For example. there is already a weekend in the season where all but 2 sides arent playing. The Challenge cup final weekend, Which is a bank holiday. Do a 2nd Magic Weekend 'The London Festival of RL'. 1 game on the Friday night, Challenge Cup final on the Saturday, 4 games at Wembley on the Sunday or some variation thereof.

We could have also simply played on different days, There is no reason we can only play Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday mondays or that clubs have to play on the same day. Sky have had very little content recently, especially during the week. We could have fit that round in by going Wednesday to Wednesday to Sunday playing 1 game a day and selling those entire rounds to Sky so having 12 consecutive SL games live of TV. That would have meant a minimum of 4 days between games, largely 5 if not 6 which is pretty much standard, and it would have finished this sunday putting us back to a standard week.

The problem once again is a lack of planning, a lack of forethought and a lack of joined up thinking from the RFL.

I would still like to see changes made but it wont be happening for next season imo. Looks highly likely we will get a top 4 place at this stage and we have every chance in CC still so no way GH will pull the trigger when he let things roll through 18 months of poop. Unless he sorted something out when he issued the final warning after the Cas game, but i doubt it.

Im sure those people politely and patiently explained to you why these fixtures had nothing to with fact we played mid-season international fixtures.

It was poor last night but not the worst. 8-0 vs Salford last year and losing to Bradford the week before the 2014 CC Final spring to mind as poorer games.

They do though, they have a knock on effect that the club game can't cope with.

3rd game in 8 days is always going to be low quality rugby league. I don't know why the RFL persist with these double rounds, and that includes over Easter.

If we can pick up the win over Wakey it would really put us in a strong position for a finishing top 4 spot. Think most of us expected Wigan to eventually come good and get in the 4 but they just haven't got the bodies back and I don't think they're going to make it now and that changes the playoff complexion massively if so.

I think that most people and probably the Wigan club too believe that they would get the wins to enable them to finish in the top 4 and that they would then fancy their chances of winning the GF. They possibly still could, although it will be tough.

If Wigan do not make the top 4 then IMO the comp will be blown wide open and that all 4 of the sides will genuinely fancy their chances this year with not having to play such a battle hardened side like a full strength Wigan either in the semi's or in the final.

Sides like the Tigers,Hull FC and Salford although relatively inexperienced in the GF play off's could finally put a long overdue new name on the trophy.

If the Rhinos make the 4 then could their experience of being there and knowing what it takes to deliver the wins make them strong challengers and maybe even see them lifting the trophy for an 8th time?

I have to ask, when people post about top four, you are talking about regular season? We do realise that is not the final table? Can't see Leeds winning more than a couple of games in middle eights, so it would need a good six to eight point cushion going into that stage.

I agree however, that should certain teams miss out, it does blow the competition open. But still expect both Saints and Wigan to be there.

Sill do-able for Saints and wigan though I think it a long shot now that both will make top 4.

I'm guessing you meant you can only see Leeds winning a couple of games in the super 8s rather than the middles? If so, I think we're bit better than that. A 6 or 8 point cushion would still be nice, mind. Though if we need that much insurance it'll mean we're too poor to worry anyone in the playoffs.
