| Quote ="Superted"Never heard details of Sinfields salary, but that seems ridiculously low.... Achurch was signed when the £ wasn't doing so well against the Aus$, which is a small part of why he's getting so much...'"
Don't want to be one of those "in the know people" but this was either a fact or Leeds were lying with regards to their insurance. And I doubt it is the latter.
It was a couple of years ago but he was certainly the top earner. I think he was GB/Eng captain at the time.
Not a massive amount is it but certainly fits in with his grand final speech about being able to earn more elsewhere.
Don't know the ins and outs of the salary cap but think it might have increased slightly since then but still not a soccer type salary (for our highest paid and arguably best player at the time) is it even if there were cup winning bonuses on top.

| I remember tuning in to see Achurch play for Penrith at the back end of the NRL season when he signed for us.I recall Gus Gould saying he had signed for Leeds Rhinos in SL.He said the panthers wanted to keep him but he had got a kings ransom so couldn't blame him.Read into that what you will regards what Achurch is on.

I'll double check when it was. It wasn't that long ago. It was salary not bonuses but it was official figures from the club. Even if since then it grew to £120k it shows that they aren't on a fortune for a career that can end very quickly and also then doubt that Achurch can have been on anything like Sinfield's salary (even if it was high).
If Westerman wants a salary like that I'd suggest he's not worth it (yet). Get him at a sensible price and suddenly he looks worthy of a punt.

Wont be far off, him and Peacock highest paid at Leeds. McGuire was circa £110k during the WC.

What I saw wasn't from the Daily Mail!!
And personally I think that report is wrong although with bonuses for winning trophies, international appearances and sponsorship I'm sure it soon adds up but it's not the basic salary and to have 10% of the salary cap on one player is a risk (although they may do it for all I know).
I'm just saying what I saw with my own eyes and around that time Leeds reported their highest paid player was Sinfield and it was under £100k (only just mind). Believe what you want.
Point I was making was just losing Achurch alone probably won't leave room for a £100k player and AN other. However it will leave room for some player more deserved of whatever salary the great soft lump was / is on!
Hope if he plays on Saturday he proves me wrong though!!

Yeah, maybe so, during the WC it was. Bonus, sponsorship etc will have bumped it up.

And that figure would go perfectly with the information I was given - Achurch is 'one of' our top earners in that same sort of wage bracket.

| I think the surprise re Achurch wasn't the salary Leeds offered but the length of contract. Leeds offered him 4 years on a decent wedge. Penrith offered him a much shorter deal on terms that would be standard for a player in his early 20s with a JJB-like injury record and very few NRL matches under his belt - probably something close to minimum NRL wage until he proved his fitness. I don't think Leeds necessarily paid him a huge amount, just that by comparison to what Penrith were willing to pay it was a big increase.

No real proof whatsoever I'd say. However, you can't deny ever wondering how much our players earn, especially after Kevs speech after that GF. We won't ever know the answer but it makes for good discussion when fans are wanting to know what's left on the salary cap, and what type of player were hoping to sign.
The daily mail report was one of a few. I never said it was hard evidence, it's just interesting to throw in to the mix.
I wouldn't get too upset about it mate.

| I've seen it through my job. It wasn't meant for the public domain but as it was 2 or 3 years ago and not that far off what was reported/suspected I don't feel too bad confirming it.
Point is that even with bonuses / sponsorship some of these players will struggle financially if their careers suddenly stop and also might not free up as much room on the salary cap as we think.
And even though I have zero "sources" or links to players or player's Dads I also knew for a fact a long time ago about The Canadian team playing in the UK next year but that's another story and we can all argue about how successful / what a waste of money that was next year

Wise words mate. At the end of the day we're all just chatting on here about the team we love. We all speculate or share stories or thought but at the end of the day it changes nothing!

Exactly. The thing about RL, its not a hard thing to find things out. We all know people who work in and around RL, its not the Premier League. Im comfortable with what I said. I also think RL players should be on a lot more for what they go through for our entertainment.
Ive also no doubt a lot of them will be, if you catch my drift. What salary cap??

It seems like an age ago now doesn't it, but it isn't really that long ago you were the top dogs. Unbelievable how things have unravelled since 2005. The Leeds- Bradford games back then were great too, would love to get those times back but seems a long way off right now.

I used to have similar dislike of the Bulls however I now just want them not only back in SL but also in a position to win things.
It would make the league stronger and more interesting.
Maybe I was just jealous of the Bulls' success back then (and was younger so less objective) but I do hope you guys get to turn things around before it's too late as whatever the things that went wrong you certainly got a lot of things right and to have over 20,000 in Odsall was fantastic.
Good luck for next season!

Well, they did reach the GF in 2004 and won it again, as we well know, in 2005. Although i would agree that the treble winning 2003 side was the peak. The Bulls fall from grace is a perfect example to any Leeds fan taking the current success for granted, enjoy it and soak it up while you can, because things can very quickly go pear shaped. Obviously we are in far better financial shape than the Bulls were, but you never know what is around the corner.
