| In 20 years of heading to Leeds away games leaving Leeds at between 1700 and 1800 to various Lancastrian venues only twice have I been significantly delayed, once in 2000 or so at Saints and then again heading to the same place in 2013. It is extremely rare and is no real excuse for all but a few Leeds fans not to turn out. Interestingly the club maintain that more tickets have been sold for tomorrow night to Leeds fans than were sold for last year's semi at Langtree Park which was a conventional Saturday afternoon kick off.
The BBC are one of the game's biggest sponsors and playing in prime time, even on a secondary channel, should ensure a larger than usual audience, which is good for the sport as a whole.

Could not agree more with this. I have been travelling over from Manchester leaving at between 5.30 and 6.00 for most Leeds home games for nearly 10 years and I have never missed kick off or been close to missing kick off. Traffic on a Friday generally seems to be quieter plus it is School holidays so there is less rush hour traffic.
People always moan that the sport is not marketed properly. We then get an opportunity to play on terrestrial TV at prime time on a Friday night and guess what..... people moan!

| I had a right old moan when the fixture date and venue was announced but in reality it is not that bad, if you really wanted to go then most people can make it possible.
A couple of weeks ago when we played Wigan I actually decided to go to the game at 6:15pm on the day of the game, I made it...
We need to make that Warrington South Stand like our HQ South Stand tonight. the lads need us.

Can't agree more with this.
Seems the Seats have sold reasonable well so we might be even more spread out in that Stand.
Lets get behind the lads tonight from the minute they step foot on that Pitch...I want another day out at Wembley!!

| Where does this assumption come from that Friday night is "prime time TV"?
Look at the ratings that anything other than the big soaps (Emmerdale, Corrie, Eastenders) gets on a Friday night. They're down around the 1 million mark, for established shows that are on every week and have a regular audience.
Saturday and Sunday afternoons - when generally there's sod all else on particularly in summer - are your best chance of picking up casual viewers who aren't already fans of the sport. Isn't that what TV coverage is supposed to be about, attracting new fans to the game?

RL fans are used to watching it on TV on a friday night. ON a saturday / sunday afternoon there is a large proportion of people interested in RL who get involved with an amateur team, and would therefore not be watching

Maybe you should get in touch with the organisers of Children in Need and Red Nose Day and inform them that they're onto a loser having it in the graveyard slot of Friday night. Tell them to get it switched to Saturday afternoon at 3pm and I'm sure they'll make a ton more money.

As stated elsewhere, the assumption that Friday night TV is prime time comes from everyone involved in television ever, and is backed up by about 60 years worth of data.
The fact that there's "nothing on" on weekend afternoons is neither here nor there. Unlike Friday nights, there's no-one in either.

Then again, they wouldn't have to put up with Lenny Henry whining about driving up the M6 on a Friday.

Saturday & Sunday afternoons when people are generally out doing things they can't do during the working week - Shopping, hobbies, visiting family, family days out etc. Personally I hate been sat in on a weekend afternoon, watching tv is the last thing I'd like to do as myself along with 90% of Britains population spend their week nights doing just that.
Summary: A pretty daft pov.

TV coverage isn't about existing fans of the game. It's about attracting new fans who aren't already turning up/watching regardless.

I'm full after my breakfast!.
I still would have chosen the same team but Burrow had a decent game. The break was great and a really turned the clock back but then the knock on at the PtB (Sinny Inc) was dire.
Very glad Aiton is said to only have a concussion and that Ward will benefit from an extra week off. Big game vs wire coming up, especially if we have them in the CC final.a third loss this season before the final and it must be on their minds.
Think I'd have Ward in for JJB and the last spot on the bench for Burrow vs Wire.Hope the game plan is to use our backs and go around the big wire pack than try go through them.

With Ailton off so early in the game we would have been in big trouble without Burrow in the side. The splendid and crucial Moon try would not have happened without Burrow and his back up and assist pass for the JP special was a turning point in the match. So his contribution was more than "decent" ok he made an error but so did MOM Sinny and Hardaker too but they all can be allowed the odd mistake given how well they played.
Pity you couldn't honour your promise

| He played well, had a decent game and a few big touches. I have no trouble admitting that at all.
The injury was unlucky and gave Burrow big minutes at hooker which he isn't suited to.it seems to really slow us down, this time it was necessary.normally it isn't.
I think the mistake and the slowness / needing Sinny, McGuire and others help out at DH detracts enough to say he had a great or fantastic game. Hence my saying he had a decent game etc.

No we wouldn't have been in trouble. He was one of our best players in that good opening period for us. Granted he wouldn't do the same things Burrow manages....but Burrow can't manage the same things Aiton can do from the hooking role.
Would we have scored that Moon try with Aiton on instead....no, but we might've scored a different try that came from Aiton's influence. Would having Aiton on defending in the middle stop the break Walmsley made for the first Saints try?
I do think Burrow played well, BUT at the same time we did miss having Aiton out there at times as the game wore on.

I agree regarding your point regarding Ailton thought he was very good. I am not sure the comparison with burrow was what the OP was getting at though. Exactly. The point was aimed at those who would not have picked Burrow on the bench. Wake up at the back Printer.
