| What a terrible game - for a supposed game amongst elite sides it was terrible advert for SL. When Ali is the best player on the field by a distance you know the standards are a worry.
Team selection for Leeds was a confused to say the least and configuration during the game was a times just plain barmy. Why McDermott felt the need to play Peacock and Sinfield, both players over 30, only two days after a strenuous training run is puzzling. With Moore and Ward he would have more than adequate cover of the correct standard.
Wakey showed they are good side to watch and but for a couple plays not going their way they could have won the game and Leeds would have had no complaints.
Of the Leeds players Ward looked as good as any although some work is required on his goal line defence, something I'm sure McDermott will sort The other half backs and I include Burrow offered nothing constructive in the game and some changes are required here for next season, especially if Hardaker is the long term view for FB. Lunt showed why he cannot get a gig at the Giants.
Hardaker looked a natural FB, he dealt with the high ball - albeit unchallanged - well and he looks a threat ball in hand. BJB had one of his best games and a run in the side is required as he seems a confidence player.
Amor looked a world away from Griffin/Kylie and his continued inability to impress the Leeds management is puzzling.
The game lacked any kind of intensity and perhaps this is what we have to get used to until some radical changes are forthcoming for Hetherington - I for one, am not holding my breath.

Agree 100%. Would rather see tight defences, happier with say 20 - 16.

| Agree regarding Amor. In his 1st spell he looked the part but when he returned later in the game was poor. Same thing happened last time I saw him play at Headingley. That said he still offers more than Griffin imo. He did make good yards in that 1st spell and was difficult to handle.

| Sal-re-Lunt he was used as an impact BR which is something he clearly isn't.
We have a 30 man squad and only 2 injuries yet we picked the same old tired out of form players that just sums up how our coach thinks.

| Agree with what a lot of people have said was a bizzare selection picking all 10 for this game. Some should have been rested.
Amor should be called back and offers more than alot of our props. The issue is would he even want to come back.

| Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Amor a Wakefield player albeit Leeds have an option to re-sign him for 2013 which must be exercised by the end of July? If Leeds don't exercise that option, he has another two years at Wakefield. Sure I remember reading that somewhere when the deal was announced. Hence Leeds couldn't bring him back this season even if they wanted to.

It was a rubbish decision by the touch judge but the penalty was for dissent from Cockayne. If Agar is furious at the officials over that then hes even more stupid than I thought he was. He should be furious at his pathetic winger who couldn't control himself and gave the penalty away and ultimately lost them the game.
Silverwood happily evened it up later on though by penalising Ablett for being hit by Cockayne.

Yes don't think we could get Amor back this season. I don't particulary think Amor would want to come back. He is playing every week and looks to be enjoying actually getting game time

| Another thing that struck me is that you look at the 17s of Leeds and Wakefield before the season and how many Trinity players would get in the Leeds team? Cases could be made for Amor and Lauititi, obviously, but then we had options by which they could have been available. People say Raleigh had a good game, but if you'd looked at him and Griffin at Huddersfield you'd have definitely picked the latter.
In reality only Aiton would have made a joint Leeds/Wakefield team, but then he's an actual NRL-standard hooker and we've obviously no need for them now we've independently reinvented what hookers need to do.
So when a team of proven players have been coached so far backwards that a selection of misfits and journeymen marshalled by the genius that it Richard Agar can put 40 past you on your own patch, I'd tend to disagree with Brian McDermott and Dave Craven that this is "crisis averted".

Have times changed? Our Academy is arguably even better now than it was the night we beat Castleford with them. The major difference is a coach who won't put his faith in them.

Compare with this quote:
"Thirteen of those boys came through the academy here and to see their faces in there at the end was fantastic. It's something they will remember for the rest of their lives. During the week I said to the guys, even the older ones like Brent Webb, that you will play 200 to 300 games and you won't remember them all - but you'll remember this one. What a fantastic team and what a great honour it is to be involved in something like that."

After seeing last night's game I'm coming around to your pov regarding the coach
Not a single player rested of the 10 who played two days ago.
Puzzling decision to have Sinfield, McGuire, Burrow, Lunt and Ward on the field all at the same time - did the players know what their roles were? It didn't look like they did. I thought McGuire was meant to be injured?
Virtually no structure in attack, which was dependent on one-out rugby and individual brilliance
Not much aggression in defence, which is starting to be reminiscent of 1996. How on earth did they let Tim Smith run through the middle unopposed?!
Some good moments from Hardaker, BJB, Hall, and Ablett.
Putting workhorse Delaney out in the centres when the team were tired in the middle was an odd decision. I thought Clarkson was pretty anonymous again after one semi decent hit-up (was he injured in the second half?), and McGuire gave too much away. Bailey needed to step up and didn't. Hauraki and Griffin seem low on confidence and looked OK if unspectacular going forward when they weren't making errors.
Lunt just isn't being used effectively in the backrow. I would have preferred him to start with Burrow coming off the bench, although this decision may have been influenced by Lunt having more game time for the Knights... Dunno how long he played in that game.

Thats sort of what I was getting at. The coach doesn't have faith in the full squad. Like them or loathe them we should have seen the likes of Singleton & Smith, along with Moore, Kirke & lee Smith. People should only have doubled up as a last resort

Couldnt agree more Harrigan I was retorting to a post saying that Agar was livid about a decision by the ref thats all, and yes it was a s**** game.

Is Liam Hood injured? This seemed like the perfect opportunity for him to get a run out with the first team again, particularly as the other two "hookers" were backing up.

The third time that has happened. Perhaps still not as bad as when Huddersfield came across and posted 46 in 2001 whilst they were sat winless at the bottom of the table after the opening ten rounds.
The surprising thing is (and it's been mentioned already) Wakefield have had a near new squad assembled since their last league visit to Headingley, including a new coach. Only two of 17 on show last night played in that visit last season and one of them is Amor while still on-loan from Leeds. In those circumstances if they were able to stay within 40 points of the reigning Champions away from home that would be quite an achievement let alone scoring 40 points.
Says much about the current state of affairs at Headingley if McDermott can glean any satisfaction from that result.

| If it wasn't for the individual efforts from Hardaker and BJB it could have been all over by half time. A very discouraging win to me. BMD also said last night that if Wakefield play like that every week he can't see anyone beating them. What a puzzling statement that is after we'd just beaten them.
