| Quote ="tvoc"Indeed. I realised the RFL had changed some of the absolute requirements for having full control and downward pressure but I thought you still had to actually touch the ball at some point if you wanted to be awarded a try.'"
Or you could be Danny McGuire upside down, in full control of the ball, touching it down in full view of three cameras on a sunny afternoon. In which case apparantly it's no try.

| Monsieur Alibert is fluent in many things, unfortunately what constitutes a legal RL try isn't always one of them.

I don't have the advantage of that technology nor did Thaler hence my comment re benefit of the doubt.
Look at it in real time & then tell me honestly could you see any reason to deny the try? Remeber b o d works in favour of the attacking side not the defence.

| I also note the deafening silence about the blatant forward pass in the lead-up to the McGuire try.

Let's see?
The touch judge furiously waving his flag indicating no try
The Ball squirting away off Smiths boot?
The "tryscorer" turning around and running back for a restart of play without even claiming a touchdown
The Giants players setting up for a 20 restart
Leeds frantically trying for a quick tap restart
I think there was the odd clue for our professional referee

Of the pass, the ball from Smith to Hall looked slightly forward in flight from the one camera angle behind the play (as line balls tend to look) and yet the touch judge appears in perfect line to make the call and didn't appear in any doubt.
If we could see a view from in front of the play it would probably look OK, which is why forward passes are in most cases best left to the officials out on the pitch.

YOU are missing the point somewhat. The issue is not, for me anyway, that Ben ended up awarding the try as such, it is that he blatantly ignored the clear signal of the man best placed to rule on the try, the man that (arguably) in the rules he should concede to to make that call in the circumstances and decided to overrule him and make the call himself! He doesn't even discuss it with his touch judge, he (supposedly) knows it is a try and just asks in his goal judge, who signalled he agreed with Ben, exactly 'where' it was scored.
As for Danny's try the Smith pass was in directly in front of us and it did look slightly forward to me but ALL of the officials disagreed with my opinion and allowed play to continue. We all know that a forward pass is probably the hardest call to make and they get them wrong both ways and it is a very subjective ruling when you start to bring momentum into it... that is why they are trained and told to look at the hands rather than the flight of the ball.

I sit in the carnegie, and therefore in front of that play, but I have to admit for calling that it was a forward pass when it was made.
I think there were a fair few forward passes in the game for both sides that went unpunished. Although I thought the one in the first half to Hall looked fine, that was pulled for.
