Despite still laying 2nd in the league and a great chance of a third consecutive league title?

Yep i get the point, but it was a major signing at the end of the day. Personally i was really looking forward to seeing him play for us. I guess there was some questioning of the need for him.

John Gallagher was a major signing.
One designed to sell tickets and get fans clapping like sea lions.
It still made no sense to fans with half a brain though.

True. Who was it that spear tackled him, which practically ended his career? I seem to recall it being at Saints....
Are you saying Buderus shouldn't have been signed or have i taken your point the wrong way here..

IIRC it was Tea Ropati and Shane Cooper. He played in the next seven games (although he took no further part in that game), the almost ending his career is a bit of an urban myth though, IMO.
Quote ="rpw"Are you saying Buderus shouldn't have been signed or have i taken your point the wrong way here..'"
I would say the reasoning given for making the Buderus signing from McClennan made little sense. Diskin and Buderus are both eighty minute type hookers, neither are impact players from the bench which is what he claimed Leeds were needing. The reason given didn't match the signing that was made.

| It should not be a surprise to find the attendances are down. Despite being 2nd in the SL, Leeds have been serving up very average entertainment for most of this season. Therefore the floating rugby fans who are not tied to just one team are not attracted to the current Leeds style. If Leeds return to an attacking style from the kick off and not just to rescue the game in the last few minutes then these rugby league fans will return.
IMO as an entertainment product SL has dropped back a bit these last two seasons. Teams may be closer now but the games are of a poorer standard of rugby. This may be in part to do with the level of refereeing which has never been as bad. Since the world cup the ruck has been allowed to be slowed up and offside is not policed evenly. The result is defensive teams have the advantage and too many tries are coming from kicks. The game is also becoming too predictable. It was good to see in the Cup Semi-final Huddersfield produce two tries from risky attacking moves worked out on the training field. More of that and the crowds will return.

| Alot of people have lost their jobs - so they cut back on luxuries like paying on the gate for rugby matches.
Alot of others who are still in work have seen their pay reduced - so they cut back on luxuries like paying on the gate for rugby matches.
Those who previously lived beyond their means on cheap readilly available credit can no longer do so - so they cut back on luxuries like paying on the gate for rugby matches.
Even those who lived within their means and are probably better off (with reduced prices) are worried about their future prosperity - so they cut back on luxuries like paying on the gate for rugby matches.
Add that to complacent (lack of) marketing for the past 4 years and there's bound to be a dip in support - particularly from away support where the cost of attendance is higher still.
I don't buy the style of rugby having put people off argument - I honestly don't believe the majority of supporters care enough about the style of wins as long (as they are wins) for that to put them off attending.

| Two questions.
After Friday can we expect all these alleged fans who are staying away because of the brand of rugby to return for the Saints match?
and, more importantly, how did Friday's attendance affect the average and what will we need for the Saints game to make the average match last years?
Ignore the first question if you like. It was a rhetorical jibe against a point i disagree with but if TVOC or any other mathematician could answer the 2nd it would be nice.

The official attendence was 16,391 for friday and i'd expect us to at least match it against saints so i'd guess the overall average would still be down on last year but nothing major.

Last years average was 17,043
This year so far is 15,423
Beofre the Cas game it was 15,285
We'd need a gate of 36,500 for the saints game to improve the average.
Lets move it to Elland Road
In theory Leeds have lost the equivalent of a whole game this year through poor attanedances, and although some of the decrease can be offset by a increase in ticket prices (and relatively stable costs), then some of the money men at the club may be concerned, especially if season ticket renewals don't go so well

Interesting. I can't understand why the crowds have been down tbh apart from the recession. it's certainley not to do with inconsistant home performances.

I think the price of £20 for the western terrace is a factor as is the reduced southstand capacity plus people just don't have as much disposable income nowadays.
I would like to see a "Family package" offered and discounts for buying home tickets early.
