My wife threw away the polling cards last week

Yes I know I can still go and vote without the polling card but that would mean having to talk to a pompous old lady at the desk and I can't be @rsed tonight.

Eurpoe will have to manage without me this time.

Casting my vote for the Conservative party, which in hindsight is a wasted vote in most areas of Cumbria.

Anything to ensure that Gordon Brown does not stay running this country much longer.

The major problem with this recession compared to the early 90's is the lack of credit and/or the expense of obtaining that credit for businesses, no-one in the banking system seems to understand that they actually generate the grand total of zippo unless they can lend money to someone with the balls to then make something to sell at a profit.

Stop the credit to businesses and everyone zips up their wallet and goes home - in the recession of the early 90's we as a business saw a big increase in rentals, instead of purchasing our goods businesses rented them and this stood us in great stead for the next ten years.

This time around no-one in business is spending, we are seeing plenty of enquiries but absolutely no commitment at all to purchase and an adverse reaction to rentals - its like everyone had battened down the hatches and they keep sticking their heads up to see if its gone away yet - and I've spoken to literally hundreds of customers who are all experiencing the same thing.

Worse than the 90's - oh yes, much worse.

I honestly dont think it is as bad simply because generally people are much better off now than they were in the 90's and can absorb the impact better and most people will still have money to spend to get us out of it, so its unlikely to last as long. Admittedly thats not much use to someone who is made redundant but then not much is of use.

I'll be off to vote soon.

I did that too, Puig. After voting Labour all my life, I am so sick of the party being dragged to the right in response to any reactionary crap that the newspapers print, and the utter lack of leadership from Gordon Brown, I put my tick next to the candidate from The Socialist Labour Party. They have no chance of getting elected, but I'd sooner 'waste' my vote at the moment.

All recessions are brilliant if you've got a bullet-proof job, lets say in the civil service , with a salary that isn't affected by sales or indeed any sort of turnover at all.

There are lots of people in the real world for whom redundancy and a basic wage with no bonuses who are finding things a little tough this year, the only saving grace being that mortgage interest rates are more or less negligable, its the only reason that allows my mortgage to be paid at the moment.

I'd lost my polling card, but at the desk in my polling station was a rather tasty young woman.

She made me wish I'd been able to do a different kind of 'polling' altogether.

I don't need to go to know that the bint in charge of our polling station will be the formidable Miss Ewell from "Please Sir"

Fortunately I had the foresight to get a fixed rate mortgage for five years when re-mortgaging two years ago.

I don't know what I'd be paying otherwise and I don't think I want to know.

Talking of Elections, here is a true story for you!

a couple of years back when i was a printer the company i worked for were doing the Election papers for Kenya (i think it was) and we were told that the government currently in power had sorted the papers so that they would win.

How?

most of the population can't read or write so they put there party's logo etc at the very top so the people would put there X in the 1st box they came to.

Luckily we can read and write =whitewaits for funny remark

At the local elections last time, I looked at the paper. Didn't like any of the people I saw on the paper but there was one rather unpleasant individual who I really disliked so I wrote "c*nt" next to his name on the ballot paper and posted it.

I later found out, through a friend who worked for the local paper, that some old woman opened my ballot paper at the count and nearly collapsed through shock
