| After this "idea" how about a multiball system? you know score 2 tries on the bounce or something and the ball boys/girls lob on a few more rugby balls, you know, to liven it up a bit?
No?
Balls to you then i'll try Rugby Yawnion.

| Given that no kicks will be allowed and you only have one tackle, I wouldn't expect to see too many double tries scored.

It’s an ill-conceived idea by deluded pillocks who think that they know what the games real fans want to see.
How about this for an idea:
When a team scores they can forfeit the conversion attempt in exchange for a ‘time-bomb’ ball.
This is where they get one last play with a special exploding ball – the kicker is they don’t know exactly how long they’ve got before it goes off. Anything between 2 minutes and 20 seconds. If you get caught in possession when the ball explodes your likely to lose your arms so I can be a bit of a gamble but would make for a much more exciting game to watch.

| It's akin to American Football where sides can opt go for 2 points after a touchdown by passing or running the ball into the end zone rather than 1 for a kick.
Also the idea of changing players is like AF with offensive & defensive teams.
Don't dismiss the idea out of hand, if it's the last play of the game & one side is 3 or 4 points behind just think of the extra excitement this would generate?
I believe its worthy of a proper debate, likewise the 2/4 referee proposal.

| sounds like it could be worrth the debate, can't see many people going for it apart from when its a touchline conversion / really windy / no kicker on the field.
As for the interchanges before it, thats far too much American Football and would slow the came, so a bit no!

| Bad idea. Some games one team would only touch the ball to kick off.

| What happens should a defending player intercept the ball? I like new ideas, and it's fun to try them, but my first reactions to this one are not positive.

I think it means that on the next set instead of getting 6 tackles you get 7, like when receiving the ball from a knock on

That's not how I read it. It reads to me like you get one tackle in opposition territory after a try, which allows you to add 4 pointys rather than the 2 you would get from the kick. Similar to the 2 point conversion in NFL.

Hmmm, could be that I suppose. Sounds even sillier to me

| It's not very clear at all is it, if it's one last tackle with no kicks from a drop out or restart then I think I would take the two everytime unless you were 7 or 8 behind obviously.

The main reasons the aussies want 4 refs (and 2 video refs) is to lengthen the game, freeing up commercial time opportunities for the sponsors to try and sell their wares.

| One of the obvious problems for me:
If they are trying to get away from kicking goals, but all they will achieve is another form of kick with either: Bomb/ Grubber / Chip.
The defence will be clued up, they will have a set line, so you shouldn't let a try in. Which I think will end up with a big boot to the in-goal area.
Pat Richards would be pleased mind.

Kicks aren't allowed on the extra tackle though.

| but what about the added incentive that if you dont score from the "double-try" the other team gets the play the ball on there 20 instead of kicking off.
Another problem though is, what if the opposition team intercept the ball and run down the pitch and score at the other end, will it count?

| It's no more of a problem than wondering what happens if a conversion kick bounces off a crossbar or post or misses and doesn't go dead.

NCAA and highschool really. The NFL resisted the two point conversion for a long time after the other ruling bodies used it.

I suppose not, but at least in that sitiuation you just rule the ball dead after the kick. Seems a bit less annoying than a situation where the ball is in play for a theoretically indefinite amount of time. I suppose if your try just put you in front with a minute on the clock, it's a good way to run the clock down.

Or you could make it un-timed.
For a while, I have felt the clock should stop after a try is scored and not resume until the next kick off is taken, anyway.
