All this talk of a possible 4th finish got me thinking about this pre-season thread.

I don't think I could have been more wrong if I tried.

Amateurs, the lot of you.

Regular season now over, it's time for the results.

First of all the ground rules:

1) All entries must contain 14 unique and/or clearly identifiable teams

2) Scoring System: Correct position scores 0, 1 away from correct position scores 1, 2 away scores 2 etc

The aim is to achieve the lowest score

3) In case of a tie:

Tie-Breaker 1 = Most correct positions
Tie-Breaker 2 = Re-score only using the top eight

Assuming everyone is happy (if not please add your comments) I'll score the entries in the morning and all being well post the final table around lunch-time.

Based on tvoc's scoring system, I score myself at 20. No idea whether that's any good or not.

I was miles out with Catalans (I had them 11th, scoring a massive 4 points!) but everyone else I was 2 places out max.

Looking forward to seeing the results. Only Billy Rhino had Wire 1st so top marks to him for that! He got the Top 8 right too! (As did Swiftcorn!)

Also, interestingly, most people got 7 of the top 8 right, and of those, it was almost always Catalans that people got wrong. Wigan, Wire, Saints, Hudds, Leeds, and the Hull clubs made it into MOST top 8s with lots of people wrongly predicting Salford or Bradford as the 8th team.

Only got 1st and 5th place wrong. 8 points. Surely the winner.

Since when as 'Them' been Castleford?

Unfortunately that entry doesn't quite satisfy ground rule number 1 and consequently fell at the first.

I sense the excitement is really starting to build .....

Oh Ok maybe it's just me then.

That was trickier than first anticipated. Next year I think there needs to be a rule to exclude any entry that doesn't use the numbers 1 to 14 in their predictions. Sitting holding a piece of paper to the screen has strained my shoulder so thanks for that.

I've only used tie-break 2 to split the top two and find the winner (the other placings where equal up to tie-break 1 are shown in earliest entry order)

Tie-Break 2 Result:

Old Feller - 8
Keith Swiftcorn - 10

It appears Old Feller's clever tactic of copying tvoc's top 8 entry precisely has paid dividends.



Keith Swiftcorn was the only entrant to correctly predict all 8 teams to make the Play-Offs. A victim perhaps of the hastily thought up tie-break 2?

Obviously I missed out the 'in the top nine' bit.

Should of known better really especially as Keith made reference to BillyRhino doing likewise on another thread just recently.

After all that fuss you made about holding up a bit of paper and people not putting numbers... you've not ranked your list.

Somebody with your high standards might see that as a failure.

Seriously it was a pain. Started off counting differences in position and keeping a running total (in my head) as I scanned down the entries and then having to keep track of where I'd got to on the list. It was getting like spaghetti junction in there.

The result list I felt looked prettier and inclusive (in a winning isn't important, it's the taking part that matters kind of way) besides which the fear of litigation proceedings worried me as I haven't applied tie-break 2 to it yet. And don't intend to.

When I saw you'd scored 38, I had to go back and have a look as I was confused as to how somebody could get it so wrong!

In a 14 team competition, that means on average you got every team wrong by nearly 3 (2.7) places.

There's no way I could have consciously copied tvoc since I now can't remember more than 2 things off a list of more than 2 & even that's difficult.
