| Quote ="Backwoodsman"All correct, absolute credit to Warrington they have taken a massive gamble. Personally I think it will be successful, as you rightly remark Burgess will be kicking backsides . He might start with the fullback who seems to go walk about whenever Catalan chipped the ball through.'"
Dufty, unlikely he would survive a regime of that nature. We have had some bad signings but he is as bad as it comes. A rude awakening for some of the players - the likes of Currie and Ratchford who have been cruising for years - stealing a wage - will see a FIFO culture - let's see if they can adapt.

| I think burgess might do OK especially if he gets the right team around him. What he will have is the respect of players and especially the NRL ones. I suspect that there will be more significant NRL current players willing to take a phone call and discuss a contract offer with Sam Burgess than answer the phone to Gary!
It's a risk but no bigger than the one Leeds have taken with RS.

| Its a shame Dufty seems to have come over for a mess about. He can be a really exciting player, which SL is short of.

He just does not want to be here at all.

| Quote ="Barrie’s Glass Eye"I am finding the whole thing with Smith a bit conflicting now, for one main reason. He’s clearly a good ‘coach.’ It seems to me a lot of individuals in the squad, especially the younger end have improved under him. The likes of Walters, Holroyd, McDonnell, O’Conner, Johnson and even Roberts, who looked nowhere near first team level to start the year have all improved as individuals.
What I’m maybe starting to question is whether he’s ‘head coach’ material, certainly with the current level of support. He just can’t seem to pull us together as a team consistently. Yes some of that’s also falls on the inconsistent individuals we have in the squad.
I actually think he could do with a really strong second in command with some head coach experience.'"
At last someone speaking some sense. Smith is not knowledgable enough or experienced enough to drive a team but he is good with individuals. I would bet you a £ to a dead rat that next year Warrington will turn things around under Burgess because he will earn players respect. Leeds need someone coaching who can demonstrate they know rugby league.
Smith lives under the shadow of his families reputation.

I actually think there’s a level of comparison to be had there. I think Smith would be fine with some experienced support around him, I think Burgess might do well if he is given some experience around him.

it doesn't work and the sooner he goes the better mind

| It's a small sport. If reports of what Warrington were offering Holbrook are true then clearly money was no object to them - yet the best they could entice was Sam Burgess. It begs the question of who would actually be within reach to replace Smith.

| Holbrook didn't want to leave Aus because his wife has a good job as well I think? If anything it could take a lot more money to entice coaches rather than players as they're more likely to have families at school and partners working etc.

If really pushed I think GH would go for JJB ,in house and had a stab at it once and did ok cheap as chips and familiar with fans covers all bases. Job done ✔️.

| I don't think Rohan has the respect of the team at all, players looking round seeing Leeming go, Sutcliffe, Walters going, Briscoe, Hardaker... yes, for reasons that may not correlate directly to Rohan, but I bet you a lot of them will be in a mental state of limbo wondering when / if they'll be called into a meeting with GH next. What's to say its not happening now with someone?
Defeats breed lack of confidence and shallow wins / playing pi$$ poor rugby and scraping a win that paper over cracks provide nothing to truly alleviate that confidence either.
There's a shopping list of personnel we need before 2024 and it starts with a new man at the top.

I would agree with that - shows the level of ambition the club had that they even gave him a short time in charge in the hope it would work.
After his treatment of Furner no wonder we can't attract a quality coach from down under. I would be seriously looking at Lee Briers - he could be a game changer.

Cant believe sone people actually think this, rose tinted glasses Or what. Furner was terrible and on the way to being worse than Dean Lance, lance should have gone after 10-12 games not well into following season.
This is my my biggest fear for RS, what happens after next year if have only won 3-4 out if first 10?

Briers has done a remarkable job with the Broncos attacking structures and plays without a doubt,
It is certainly no coincidence that they are currently joint top of the NRL table and are playing with such an expansive style of football,He was always a heads up type of player and he has certainly instilled that ethos into the Broncos.
Would Briers leave the Broncos for the head coaching role at Leeds if it suddenly became available though?
I'm not sure that the pull of being the head coach of the Rhinos is on the top of everyone's list of dream jobs anymore.
The life experience that he and his family are currently experiencing in Brisbane is probably a dream job that they will all make the most of before he ultimately heads home for the head coaching role at either Warrington,Wigan or Saints down the track IMO

Briers is doing a great job and will definitely make a great head coach learning his trade in the Nrl people have noticed him and will probably get a gig there, he's no
no doubt on more money now than GH is willing to pay.

I agree with all the above especially the points about Leeds not having the pull it once did and life experiences. Brisbane is a great city and better for not being on the coast. It has a great laid back atmosphere and is sporting centric. Briers will make a great coach somewhere can see him ending up at Saints.

| No way will Briers come to Leeds.
In a couple of years he will probably have his pick of either Saints, Wire or Wigan.
Not all three of those can be successful, so I can see a couple of them losing patience with the coach, especially given the recruitment they are doing.
They are all far more ambitious than Leeds.
We are settling for mediocrity right throughout the club at the moment.

| I don't see how sacking the coach is going to help the current situation, other than to further plunge the club into more instability.
If GH wanted to keep JJB in charge what was stopping him doing it last season?
Rohan Smith was given a long term appointment and I haven't seen any evidence that suggests the club or GH are changing their minds on this. The recent issues over the squad are clearly nothing to do with Smith, so I'm not sure why sacking him has suddenly come on to the agenda for some fans.
