| Quote ="KaeruJim"Ah that's interesting. I assume that rules out Feldt then. I really liked Scotty Donald, a similar under-the-radar type would do me. We will need a winger who can defend if he has Hurrell on the inside (prone to the odd brain fart).
It has been a LONG time since Leeds had a pack that other teams worried about.'"
Anthony Don would be good.
Alex Johnston?
Sandor Earl and Robert Jennings are out of contract.

| Jennings would be interesting outside of Hurrell. Not sure what the politics would be of Furner talking to Souths players, unless they actively wanted rid of them of course. I'd rather see us spend on the pack than the wing, but...

He's out of contract, only 23 and can cover centre too.
Got 3 in a game vs Manly last season and 4 in a game against Parra.

It was a good pack was that, and one of the reasons why we dominated that period.
I still think this pack is hard to beat though:
McDermott
Newton
Fleary
Farrell
Morley
Glanville
Agree though, I’d rather leave the wing a bit weak and strengthen the pack.
A weak winger can still be effective with a good pack. A good winger struggles with a weak pack.

Yep. As long as your winger isn't a defensive turnstile and can catch a bomb, it's the icing on the cake. Don't get me wrong, you need class across the park to win titles, but the engine room is where we're in most need.
I was a fan of Marc Glanville. Bit like Furner - just quiet, efficient quality. Tied the pack together.
Looking at the current squad, it's looking like we're replacing pretty much half of the first team. That is major surgery. Would like to hear some more, positive signing news before pre-season starts.

| One thing i am glad about is that we are looking to offload the dead wood, the likes of Ormondroyd, Walters and Mullally have no long term future with us and are just blocking a path to the first team for the juniors.if it came to it i would rather us get rid of these and fill the squad out with kids if it came to it.
Next season is just about sweeping from one era into another, may not bring success but at the very least i hope we see some good rugby and signs from furner regime and that will do me. Some good recruitment next year is vital then and another few of the old heads will move on.In 18 months the playing squad will likely look a hell of a lot different to the one that limped off the field against Toronto.exciting times

I agree with this, however how long into the season will it be until the first Furner/Sinfield out threads when we aren't beating all and sundry
I'll be happy with a decent cup run and pushing for 5th and of course some decent signings for 2020, Sinfield has said it wont be a quick fix, players that we sign may not gel may be injured etc there's alsorts of unknowns when theres a big change in staff/players, I do hope though that we can play with some structure and a bit of flair/excitment/passion

Might be controversial here, but honestly I don't think SL is so hot that Leeds couldn't get right back up there with one or two more astute signings. We should have the best centre pairing in the comp, Walker another year on, Ward hopefully fit and some very good juniors knocking on the door too. They'll get flogged in pre-season and I'd expect a very different season next year (within reason).

Our pack is the issue, particularly front row.lose Garbutt and we have no front line SL front rower in the whole squad. I get where you are coming from and i do expect we will be far better than this year but best i think we could hope for is 5th/6th.that view could of course change if more quality players do come in.

Surely they must have another front rower or two in the sights to allow Garbutt to go? I'd consider Ablett, Ferres, (Fensom?), JJB, Peteru, Ward, Cam Smith as viable back rowers already in the squad (arguably Sutcliffe but I don't think he has the mongrel or D for the pack myself). Singleton and Crosby are solid rotation props but not impact or starters. So I'd go for 2 1st grade props. If we're prepared to spend a bit, it's a less glam position and we could aim for some real quality up front. Would make a massive difference - we looked a different side with just 1 Garbutt on 1 leg last season.

| Just lookin at the 31 man squad from 2018, no less than 14 players are either gone or look like they're going. I've never seen a turnover of players like that in all my years watching the 'nos. Looking at likely squad for 2019, I still reckon we're short 2x props, 1x winger and possibly another hooker depending on Parcell/whether they'd risk running with Dwyer/Johnson/McClelland in there.

You would expect Sinfield to say that to cover his backside but if we are replacing half the squad including some quality signings then I should hope it is a quick fix. With a weak SL we should be top four and in the mix for silverware given the money that has been made available.

Every now and then we see wholesale changes.remember Dougie Laughton bringing in loads of new faces and clearing out the 80s lot in the early 90s then we had the big changes early 2000s and the show of faith in youth. This has been on the horizon for a while and many might say it is over due, it seems the club had been in denial for a few seasons but this season was a real slap in the face for those at the top to wake up to reality.

This reminds me of a time watching the ‘Ners in a semi against Saints. This man next to me kept shouting “Rhinos Blue and Gold Army” to the White Stripes ‘7 Nation Army’. It was quite annoying. I bet it’s the same person.

Rumbled.
When I was about 15 I did randomly shout out “go on Craig” (Innes) in a silent point in the middle of the South Stand. My voice broke halfway through “Craig” and my Dad took the p out of me for about 5 years afterwards.

| I have been thinking about why we are reportedly looking to offload Garbutt, Cuthbo and Purcell. The reason I mention those three specifically is that they are Australian, most likely decent earners and clearly take up a quota spot.
If you look back at Furner when he was at Canberra he had a fair few problems in terms of his relationship and support for Josh Duggan and Blake Ferguson and ultimately their support for him. Now it may be nothing to do with Garbutt, cuthbo and Parcell but I wonder if Furner basically wants to bring in his own quota players, people he has coached more recently and who he thinks will support what he is trying to build. He has obv been involved in recruiting lolo and Hurrell.
In tens of attitude the most annoying thing last year IMO was that we were soft and often didn’t look up for the fight. Now it may be unfair but I would often look at Moon, Sutcliffe, Cuthbo, Parcell, Ferres as being part of that soft attitude and the likes of Garbutt who looks great when he is on the pitch but isn’t on it much and takes a very long time to get fit again. That is irrespective of if they were fit or playing banged up.
Well a good number of those players above could be gone by the start of the season and probably will be done by the start of next season. Furner will get three years and Sinfield will support him for that time, he will her support form the squad (home based) I just wonder if due to the issues he had at Canberra he thinks I want to clear out the quota players before we start and completely change the attitude we have.
