| If we're sharing favourite memories I have two.
His try in the 2007 GF, and the determined nature of the run, swung the momentum firmly our way.
It was a mundane game but he gave Calderwood a pass for a try in the right corner of the North Stand/Western Terrace against Widnes in 2005. I've never seen a RL player make a pass like that.

That was in 2004.
Mcguire scored 5 tries in that game.
The pass was also forward.

| Some great memories Ali has given us these last 7 years. His partnership down the left with Senior was brilliant for a few years and they created loads of tries for both the winger and inside support. It must have been a nightmare for the opposition to try and stop their offloads.
Sad to see him leave and it could be quite a while before we have another player like Ali.
All the best to him and his family.

| The 2007 GF try will live long in the memory. Showed exactly what we need to replace - pace and power to get on the outside of a defender and just brush them aside to get over the line.
I also remember a wonder try in the corner against Wigan where he flew in between defender and flag to touch down with one hand. Can't remember the year, probably 2005 or 2006.
I seem to recall a nice one-handed pick-up bringing him what, I think, was his first try for the club at Odsal in 2004 too.
Also, if he goes to Wakey, will one season there be enough to score more tries at Belle Vue than he did in that one balmy afternoon in 2005 where he strolled in 5 times. Not his best tries, but I still enjoyed that.

It was during 2006 in our losing streak. Calderwood scored a long distance try in that game and we lost.

Yeah I remember that it was a great offloading quick handling passage of play, with furner back door pass going to ground leaving the stroll in for ali.
We don't play like that anymore.

Sounds about right. I remember a lithe second rower by the name of Ian Kirke also scored from about 45m out in the same game.

Do you know, I've never seen the last few seconds of that try. Often have I looked on popular video streaming websites, but to no avail. I hadn't recorded the game so I never watched it back at home. I was at the back of the stand behind the posts and it was absolute mayhem.
Good times.

You didn't miss much.
It just showed ali sliding over then they flashed to tony smith who was sat there like a statue, emotionless.

I've seen it once and you can see on the shot of the Leeds end as he scores in the top left hand corner of the screen a friend of me and West Cumbrian Rhino been chucked around like a rag doll
it was comparable to a Slayer moshpit

Ah, now that takes me back to 1996. Loved Slayer didn't I?
Knowsely Road never got close to that.

| Memories?
A hit on Sean Rutgerson (I think) on his debut that was audible way towards the back of the South Stand.
The acrobatic put down in the south western corner of Headingley against Wigan.
His overall attitude and demeanour on the field - a welcome change in a world of increasingly spoilt and petulant professional sportsmen.

Indeed. Seems bizarre now to think that his attitude was questioned before he arrived here.

| Thanks for the memories Ali. Certainly the best overseas import in terms of talent, contribution, success and longevity in my time watching Leeds.
Stand out memories are obviously the try at KR and the 2007 Grand Final try from the scrum. One of my own favourite memories is his performance at Headingley against Hull. I think it was near the start of the season in 2007-9. he scored a try and set up a couple and displayed the strength, power and handling skills I will remember him for

Given the press reports coming out of Australia at the time of his fall out with the Warriors management, which centred around him expressing the opinion that his family and faith were more important to him than winning trophies (IIRC), it was probably fair for there to be question marks about his motivation for coming to Leeds.
Compare and contrast with someone like Greg Eastwood however, and he's been nothing short of a model professional.

| My best memories of will be him destroying Wigan in 2005. Every time he got the ball Wigan just couldn't handle it. He must have made so many breaks or half breaks with an offload that game I lost count

As well they should be. Happily, winning trophies was 3rd on the list.

Ditto!
Good luck Ali! I think a good run in the Wakey side (or any side) might see him return to previous form levels. Hope he does go well for them, he has been a great player for Leeds.
