I don't think off loading Mathers will do them any harm. As has been commented on before, he looks a shadow of the player we knew at Leeds, the 2 knee re-constructions look to have effectively finished him. It's a shame for him, but that's life.

But Goulding is a promising young lad and while Mathers seriously lacks confidence he is a veristile and experienced squad player.

Yeah, they're fair points. I suppose it depends on your squad depth, sometimes you need the icing on the cake, sometimes you need the cake mixture.

Did anyone see the Boots & All on Sky Anytime? When Bill Arthur and Barrie Mac were discusing the Gleeson deal I'm sure Barrie sais something along the lines of "and Danny Brough is rumoured to be joining the cherry & white's greasest rivals, have I said too much." I've tried to rewatch to check but can't find it anymore. I suppose it makes sense if Pryce is looking at a custodial sentence as mentioned by the judge then they'll need a replacement half back.

What would Gleeson add to an already star packed team that doesn’t perform? He’s just moving to the same club for me. Wigan will probably fall short for years with or without Gleeson as seen in the recent (fell more than short though) Leeds and Wigan match. This tactic IMO is just a desperate as signing an Aussie or a New Zealander. But because he’s English he will probably slip under the radar.

To be fair I’m not in the best of moods but yes this is a genuine opinion. I do think that Australian/ New Zealander signings sometimes come under some unfair treatment from fans because of where they from as people (or it could be just the press). Gleeson IMO should stick with the wolves and the warriors should promote from within rather than throw money at a star.

In an ideal world I would like to see all English teams battle it out in super league. But the reality is we have people from all over the world in our leagues and that’ll do for me because the rugby is good. For the rugby been good I’m happy with reality!

The issue isn't about signing Aussies / Kiwis, more about the quality of some of the ones brought over. No-one can deny that players of the calibre of Webb, Barrett, Lyon improve the competition but the signing of someone like Phelps, who could have easily been replaced by Goulding with no significant drop in standard.

To be fair mate I would rather have Goulding playing rather than Phelps buts that’s my opinion. Its the coach / board who employ the players. Sometimes they go wrong and sometimes they go right. But either way I respect whoever they employ (as I’m sure you do and many others) as long as they doing a reasonable job.

At the end of the day we wouldn’t like it if we get some riled up NRL fans moaning that Jordan Tansey is stopping this Australian kid from getting in the team.
