| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Not a cat in hell's chance of any of the Burgess boys coming back to SL IMO. They're settled in Australia, getting well paid and enjoying the lifestyle. Only way I could see any of them coming back in the short term would be if they got released by Souths and nobody else picked them up, which is highly unlikely to happen.
In the intervening period there will be other good juniors coming through at Leeds, looking to establish themselves in the same way that Sutcliffe and Singleton have done. Jordan Lilley and Sam Hallas spring to mind as two straight away, in positions of medium-term need.'"
There is another English prop who, according to reports, would be more likely to return from the NRL over the next couple of years. It would take a bit of a sea-change for him to come to Leeds though.

FGB will be 29 at the start of the 2015 season, probably the prime age for a front-rower. His next contract will probably be the last multi-year deal on the table, so it's one he'd need to think carefully about whether it is in the NRL or back in SL.
I would be surprised if he came back to SL to sign for anyone other than Saints though.

I agree but he would be the nearest we are ever going to get to replace JP

| Looking around the other squads for next year against ours i dont see anything to make me worry about us not contending for the trophys again.wigan will lose tomkins and richards which automaticaly makes them weaker.wire are losing a host of big names.Hudds will be similar.Saints will probably be much improved but thats to be expected.
We certainly do need a proper hooker and will need a quality prop or two very soon.apart from that im very happy with the squad on the whole going forward.

| Leeds haven't strengthened their squad for several seasons and there's no urgent need for them to do so right now. They'd still be a comfortable Top 5 side if they played half the academy squad each week. Genuine competition in SL does not exist. Whipping Boy SL rabble does exist in abundance however.
Fans need to accept that SL playing standards and quality have been on the slide for years and this downward levelling-out trajectory applies to every club in SL. Leeds squad isn't nearly as good as it was 5 to 10 years ago but neither is anyone else's.
Nothing is about to change any time soon... expect standards to fall even further... as most SL clubs are in a financial mess. Of the small handful of SL clubs like Leeds who aren't, even they can no longer afford to entice genuine top class talent from the NRL these days.

| Leeds wouldn't have finished top 5 this season without Peacock, that's the bottom line. They would have had a battle for top 8, he has been that bloody important and influential.
I doubt he will be here after next season, how the hell do you replace that? there should have been a plan and the replacement should be playing with him next season. Yates is not the answer.

| Leeds could easily afford to bring over the top talent from the NRL, it’s the SC which stops it. Large parts of SL aren’t in a financial mess, most clubs are perfectly fine, strong even. It’s only a few that aren’t.

We can’t expect anyone to replace Peacock, Singleton and A.N other however may be able to.

| Depends who it is really. I wouldn’t be confident of going in to 2015 with Singleton and another young prop heading the line. If it is to be an experienced front-line prop ala Graham (obviously Im not saying it will be him) then I wouldn’t really think it necessary for us to have a season of them playing together. In fact trying to do so may make it harder for us to replace JP as it would mean fitting JP and his replacements wage under the SC rather than just JP’s then just his replacement.

| Imo Kylie ,Moore and Kirke should be gone as soon as this year ends or in Kylies case he should be back up.
Yates coming in i'm prepared to give him time and a chance but i did with Amor and quite frankly the Club fecked that up big time.
Mcshane obviously isn't the Coach's choice for 9 so that needs sorting asap so we need at the very least 1 more Prop and a 9 unless Mc.D sticks with the Burrow/Sinfield rotation and Sutcliffe takes the 6 shirt with Mags at 7.
Next year i'd go with JP ,Singleton as 1st choice FR's Bailey/Kylie bench option with a New signing and hopefully Yates showing enough to get gametime as a Rotation option.
The other possibillity is switching Jjb/Delaney to FR now and sticking with it given how many BR's we have plus Foster and Minchella on the brink of breaking through.

| Remember back in 2011 when people said we'd be screwed in 2012,
Remember back in 2012 when people said we'd be screwed in 2013,
See how in 2013 people said we'll be screwed in 2014,
Look forward to 2014 when people say we'll be screwed in 2015.
You know I think some people on here spend too much time obsessing over how we'll replace certain players that I don't think they've stopped to enjoy the success that these players have brought the club.
This next month we are aiming for a hat-trick of titles. We achieved that feat back in only '09. Since then we've lost Ali, Senior, Webb, Donald, Diskin, Smith, Burgess, Buderus, Eastwood (as Ellis' delayed replacement) came and went and we replaced a former NZ coach who'd won 2 GF's with a "Muppet" who took Quins backwards.......yet since 2009 we won 2 of the last 3 GF, head into this series as arguably favourites, reached 3 CC finals, won 1 WCC and lost by a score to a great Melbourne team.
Maybe some should stop worrying and doom predicting over what things might be like in 2/3 years time and soak up the present. Otherwise if Leeds do find a good replacement prop for Peacock you'll just find yourself wondering who'll then replace him in 2021.

I think part of it is we've had such an unprecendented era of success that people are just waiting nervously for the inevitable fall.

There is no need for an inevitable fall. That can only happen by poor management. If you strengthen from a position of strength, then you continue. It's when you do it from weakness that you fall.

| Would it be more efficient to just re-post the previous year's thread each year? Save somebody typing out a new one with only the number at the end of the year changed.
We've been doomed since 2006.

Agree. The leeds team tends to evolve gradually and there never seems to be more than 1 or 2 additions from outside the club each season. But the need for top quality in the front row is a definite area to address with peacock and leuluai reaching the end of the line.

Promote from within? Yes. In progress. Ward will hopefully be back and ready to go. Sutcliffe has forced his way in this year. Singleton's maturing very nicely. A few others are around the fringes and no doubt a couple more will be more prominent next year.
Recruit? Yes, in principle. But not for the sake of it. We have to bring in better than we have. We could do with a hooker, but good ones are like rocking horse dung and clubs don't want to let them go. Other clubs have made signings for next year, but not many of those signings would have really added strength to our squad, the ones that would will have cost a fortune.
My sarcasm is at the panic button pushing (the OP was a particularly good example) not at the more rational discussion of our recruitment. Rumours of our demise have often been greatly exaggerated over the years.

It's not a question of demise, which has been blown out of proportion with sarcastic comments form certain posters.
It's a question of the influence of certain players.
Answer these two questions honestly and you will see what is said. How fundamental is Peacock to what we do? How much longer can Peacock play for?
That is just the one example.
