For me Golding is the player that needs a clear development path - he has so much talent it would be tragic if he isn't given a platform to achieve.

Walker is a better FB so Golding needs to accommodated elsewhere

We are a top club, we are not a top team, get it right. We have it in us with changes, to challenge at the top. Other clubs, who are not top clubs, do not have it in them. There is a difference.

Exactly, 2 challenge cups and two titles in previous 4 seasons a bad s asin in between and a bad season this season, fanciful thinking ng from fans of other clubs praying for our decline. We will be back in contention and winning trophies next 2 seasons.

I try not to write off young players but unfortunately it is looking that way.

I wonder if Stevie Ward could make the move to centre. It might lesson his workload and so hopefully reduce his injuries and also have him more scope to show the attacking skills he has.

One of Stevie Ward’s strengths is the work load he can get through. He’s certainly not a centre.

Not sure if Ward has the pace to be centre. I'd rather see him used in an earlier-career Sinfield-style role that would allow us to make use of his defence in the middle, not to mention his other attacking skills, but crucially requiring him to take fewer collisions with the ball in hand.

Overall, I'm happy for Furner to come in and decide who is up to it and who isn't, hopefully without interference from other influences at the club.

Furners responsible for south sydneys attack. A big part of that attack, especially the left side, which has tore teams apart all season, relies on having a ball playing second row. John Sutton has been that player for Souths, he plays like a 2nd stand off when they put there set plays on. Imo stevie ward would be ideal to play that role for us, he's got a load of skills that we havnt seen enough of at first team level. Cam Smith would also do well in that role.

Has Golding ever played at centre?

I think Sutcliffe will retain the number 4 shirt, not saying he should but I think he will, he actually did show a fair bit of promise at the back end of last year in that position

I could live with this, provided he shows some improvement as a centre. Just keep him away from the halves.

Furner needs to be able to be utterly ruthless where required, and that means the club backing him regardless of which favourites are dropped or moved on. The only limitation should be our ability to replace players, which will hamper how many changes can be made.

Its that limit on the number of players we can bring in (and not being able to ship out players on contract) that will mean we'll probably have to find a spot for the likes of Sutcliffe. But its about time he (and some others) realised he needs to step up massively if he wants to stay beyond that.

Is he big enough? looking at Peachy at the Panthers he isn't that big but he is very effective

Bit of a lightweight for most positions IMO. And while his all round skills are good I'm not sure what he has in his locker that entirely mitigates this.

I think we make Golding our next long term winger.

Gouldings game dosnt translate well to any position other than fullback imo. For me, unless in emergency, if he isnt starting fullback, he isnt starting.

Short term I think you are right. If Walker's future is as a HB then Golding has a chance. Otherwise he could possibly bulk out to become a hooker but he is 2 or 3" too short for a centre.

Lord Percy pointed out yesterday another player from Dave Furner's time here to still be at the club, namely Carl Ablett, who made one sub appearance in 2004 (away at London, I believe).

Golding has zero pace and couldn't skin a rice pudding.

I wonder if we could make a hooker out of him? He's as enthusiastic as hell, and doesn't do too bad when he covers that slot. Perhaps they could teach him to play that position?

Golding has shown up quite well playing in that position this year

Sinfield rated JJB as our best forward yesterday and without his 40 tackles and 17 carries we might well have lost!

Singleton made 51 tackles, but he wasn't our best forward either.

He has made our 4th most tackles busts and our 7th most metres both more than Walker as are his average metre per carry and with 249 tackles is way ahead of Walker on 71

Walker looks to have a bit more pace off the mark but over a distance I doubt is quicker than Golding.

Agree. He has plenty of chances and falls way below the mark consistently.
