lately I've been getting Paruresis.

It was a b1tch at the Grand National on Saturday when, after several pints, I'd queued for half an hour for the loo, wedged in shoulder to shoulder, only to get stage fright.

I give myself little motivational speeches. It works, but you get funny looks in the loo when you're muttering things like "come on out you come", "I am not leaving till I am relieved" and "I've been waiting for this for ages and you won't stop my enjoyment, now get out".

But weren't the WCC and Challenge Cup part of our objectives?

Yes and I am sure all at the Rhinos believe the squad was talented enough to achieve those objectives as well.

But in sport, its' about how the selected team plays on the day. there's no evidence at all to suggest that even if we had added Sam Burgess, Michael Shenton, Greg Eastwood and Israel Falou we would have won Sunday's game or the WCC.

Had Mclennan delivered on Sunday maybe GH might've given him so dosh to blow on the luxury of another player.

Nothing to do with me, I was leaving no stone unturned, busy spending up to the permitted salary cap and building on the achievements seen so far. G1's modesty knows no bounds.

Others were excusing why a club with (in all likelihood) the biggest turnover in SL unable to match the spending power of a Warrington, Huddersfield Hull, or Hull KR.

As the years go by and the likes of Smith (3), Hall (5), McGuire (6), Burrow (7), Jones-Buchanan (11), Sinfield (13), Diskin (14), Bailey (16), Kirke (17), Ablett (18 ) and Burgess (19) slip out of the 1st team squad to be replaced by either inferior or more expensive imports we'll probably look back at these times and wonder if more could have been achieved in Leeds' golden era.

While you look backwards I'll continue looking forwards. You hang on to that possibly there if it helps.

No Challenge Cup in 10 years now despite targeting it every year.

This is a relative golden period for Leeds, the circumstances of which may never return and people are still happy for Leeds to have money in the bank and accept some mediocre (and worse than that, losing) performances on the field.

'Fail to prepare and prepare to fail' could be Leeds' epitaph this season, it has been so far it seems.

I always look forward.

Its the anticipation that I enjoy and this year is has good as the last.

History is important however and it shows in recent times its better not to shoot your load prematurely.
