Why treat the Sharks different from any other club?

| It's a tough one for Leeds tbh. Obviously you don't want a player that doesn't want to be here but you also would want a replacement and a fee for him.
I'd try for fee and be shut of him tbh.

| Make them pay fee. Don't release him until they do. players and NRL clubs need to realise that contracts mean something. We should let him rot on the sidelines, and fine him wages if he stays in Australia.

If they pay a decent fee then let him go but he might get a bit of a surprise that Cronulla might not be that desperate to get him if it involves dishing out a transfer fee, they weren't desperate to get him before his option deadline and I'm sure they got other options they can spend Ben Barba's wages on without waiting around whilst this drags on.
As for rotting away in Australia for two years if he doesn't want to come back, yeah I'd let him do that and fine him as much as we can for missing training but I'm not sure he would. Remember he's already shown his hand really if you think about it. He didn't have to take up the option with Leeds and could've gone back to Australia with no team to play for but he didn't want to do that.....so is he suddenly going to stay in Australia with the prospect of no rugby for 2 years? I'm not so sure.
If Cronulla aren't interested in splashing the cash then I actually can still see him ending up back with us next year and letting him go at the end of it before the 2nd year of his deal.

No I'm not.
Personally I hope the club stand firm & make him honor the contract he signed only a few weeks ago, or let him buy himself out of his contract. I do believe under EU law a person with sports contract can pay the club the remaining value of a contract to become a free agent.

Agree with all of this, let's hope Gawy is actively looking for a replacement cos let's face it, Segs ain't coming back.

Forget that, if he wanted he could have made it quite clear at the end of the season that he would be looking elsewhere, giving us chance to get someone else, but he signed with us because he didn't have a better offer.
Danny buderus left a year early, but he let us know early (or at least before our preseason already started!), and there was no hard feelings (I was gutted for him that he got injured so he couldn't play origin one more time).
If none will buy him out then he can either play for us, or play for none with no pay, his choice...

| All this fuss about an average player , most probably due to the bollox talked about the number 9 position by the resident SKY baldy for 2 decades , making out they are some kind of Super Heroes
Surely you have a kid in the reserves who can pick up and pass the bloody ball

Wow, while I agree that Segeyaro is perhaps not a world beater, I find it hard to believe anyone who watches and understands the game believes a hookers job is just to 'pick it up and pass'
You have to pass accurately and with speed, organise, be enough of a threat to tie in markers, as well as a mobile tackler in the middle capable of tackling the big boys. They also pretty much touch the ball ever play.
In my opinion it is the position that requires the most well rounded player on the pitch, and is very close to being the most important in the modern game.
You only have to ask forwards what a difference a hooker makes, or look at the poor service when Watkins got in at dummy half in the recent England game, or look at what a difference it made to Leeds last year.
A good hooker is vital.

I think they've been relatively isolated incidents in the past and when SL has been able to punch above its weight due to the exchange rate.
Now we've got 3 high profile players all trying the same thing at the same time. If all 3 capitulate then it spells open season for anyone who wants to move to the NRL or Union.
It's not about an issue between 1 player and 1 club anymore. It's about the credibility of the sport in this country.

| Leeds should dig in on this imo, it's ridiculous and he is treating us like mugs. If i was GH i would tell him to come back, play this year and agree that we will meet in the middle and allow him to move on at the end of the year if that is what he wants. He had his chance to leave with best wishes, that ship has sailed.
He has dropped this on us far too late in the day, it could well screw our entire season.

It's very poor really that we haven't been able to bring anyone through in that position apart from him over the last few years.OK, We have had McShane who in fairness has turned out to be steady but not many were up in arms at his departure and he has had to go the journey man route. Also Hood who has just started to show promise but again, not many were complaining about his exit. Apart from that, it's pretty damning stuff for a club like Leeds.

Yes I have slightly over simplified the ' Art ' , but again do feel it has been elevated to ' God ' like status by Mr Stephenson , maybe we won't see the MOM any longer constantly being given to the winning teams 9
To me after watching Mr Segeyaro , the main skill seems to be passing the ball forward , or maybe that's just a Leeds thing

When the alleged 'best run club in SL' finds itself in the pickle that it's in on so many fronts, the only conclusion worth its salt is that the future of the game in this country is bleak.

| I agree its about time that SL clubs took a stand re contracts. Segeyaro and Solomona would never have signed for either Leeds or Cas without long-term contracts. Those contracts provide income security which otherwise wouldn't exist, and which players in negotiations rightly value. SL cannot allow these contracts to become one-sided totally in favour of players.
Otherwise we might as well move to NBL (Aussie basketball) style contracts, all of which have standard opt out clauses in the event players get offers from the NBA or Europe (in effect any offer to play anywhere else where the pay is higher). That leads to players jumping ship mid season as soon as they seem to be going well and the integrity of the sport as a whole suffers hugely.
SL has to get agreement from the NRL to support this as well. They have the same problem with RU - it looks like Radrada is going to run away to France mid-contract with the Eels, but he's just the latest and won't be the last, particularly players with RU backgrounds.
If the sport as a whole introduced a rule that players walking out on contracts could not re-sign with any club (without the permission of the club they left - e.g. Sandow or if they receive a satisfactory fee) for the remaining duration of the contract, at least you'd stop our sport (and SL in particular) acting as a safety blanket. It won't stop defections, but if Solomona turns out to be more Lee Smith than Jason Robinson in RU, we as a sport should be comfortable with him sitting on the sidelines until his Cas contract expires.

| Jamie Soward has spoken up about Segeyaro on Twitter
My heart goes out to @chicko9 and the situation. Family is important to my bra, he is trying to come back Home would hate to see that stopped.
I can hear everyone's point about contract being signed. The kid has been honest and misses Home. Would rather him tell truth and come home
If a player tells the truth and wants to come Home why can't we accept it? Family means a lot to him and he misses home. Least his honest.
A club can make a decision at any time to help move a player on. The player has expressed how much he misses home. Didn't play up or get in
Trouble just simply misses his family and wants to come back home. We are angry at a guy wanting to come home. #really
Again respect all opinions but i mean be real. He has said he misses Home he misses his family. You all would do the same thing.
It's not always about the money or lining the pockets. Family means everything to this kid and is missing them. He wants to be at home.
We will all have to wait and see. I hope I am watching play his best footy next year. He is so good can't wait to watch him play again.

| Get the violins out.
He's right on one point though, the club can decide at anytime when to let a player move on.....and they're saying now isn't that time so deal with it. Oh I forgot the guy likes to be outdoors and do things like fishing and camping......because obviously you can't do those things in Yorkshire.
