Newman is quick enough for centre.The little I've seen of Broadbent I thought he lacked pace.Also how tall is he because the Leeds hand book has him down only 5ft 8?

No Broadbent is a 6 footer. Good centre too.

Is he quick?

Not winger-quick (probably similar to Newman on the gallop), but he is a more complete centre in his skill set IMO. Newman is an explosive athlete with great footwork; different animals.

Broadbent is younger than Newman (only just turned 18 I believe) and understandably looks less like the fully finished article physically than Newman. The only vacancy for him at Fev last season was on the wing, which again isn't his position, and with Hardcastle, Minns (when fit), Worthington and maybe Alex Sutcliffe competing for centre spots at Fev, it wouldn't surprise me if Broadbent ended up on loan somewhere like Bradford, or back at Batley, assuming he has recovered from injury, having broken his jaw playing for Batley against Fev in September.

I’d have him in the reserves at Leeds, we are going to need some players to make a side.

He has some real quality about him does Broadbent, I’m hoping he progresses. So hard to call it even at 18/19.

I think what Newman does have is an absolute will to succeed. I can see him making progress and causing lots of problems for opposition when he fills out a bit.

That's not a great start is it.

Only the first friendly but especially with Leeming, the squad needs as much time together in training and friendlys to build up partnerships.

Given I've not seen much of Johnson I am keen to see how he goes against a pretty average looking wakey team of he does start.

Some positive signs especially Gale & Ward

We look quite lively with Gale and Myler on the paddock at the sam time

people don't realise Myles not an organiser, but hes had to do that role. he is a runner and would ho well with gale

Thought Myler was excellent today

He was. It was a good run out all round. Gale looked a million mikes above what we gave had last couple of years though.

Great to see a ball playing loose too for once. Smith was clearly the best player on the pitch in the first half.

Sutcliffe ran some excellent lines. Oledski second spell was brilliant. Wardy gives us so much more when he plays.

How did Johnson get on?

Went well against a depleted Wakey side who despite missing a bucketload were still good in defence.

Myler played well, some brilliant play / leadership from Gale. Cam Smith also a standout for me.

All in all a good, solid start.

Some real positives out that game Gale looked real comfortable and made us look so organised with good leadership, Ward lead us well with good Carries and a try really hope he can stay fit now and lead us for next 5 years and beyond, Dwyer showed why he probably is one of the best interchange hookers in super league that's his game coming off the bench and being quick out of dummy half and running off the back of offloads think Leeming starting next year and Dwyer off the bench will work really well for us next season. Think after today the 13 role is Smith's to lose he looked good being a ball playing loose forward with good feet and ball handling think our back row looks quick and athletic with Ward, Martin, Mellor and Smith. Really hopefully for next super league season think we've got recruitment of the squad there or there abouts right this year even if we don't even fill the vacant 20 and 21 shirts.

The issue at the moment is the lack of depth which will bite us hard when injuries come. Hopefully will be addressed asap.
