i have lived nr headingley stadium for 45 yrs and ben a leeds supporter for over 30 yrs does not mean i have to agree with a large mass stadium that towers over the surronding area and community - 24/7

You chose to live near Headingley Stadium, you accept the fact that the stadium may get extended and all the traffic etc that comes with living near such a stadium.

I must admit, I don't know what strings YCCC had to yank hard on to get permission to build their new media centre but painting it green doesn't fool anyone into thinking that its just those old trees that used to be behind the old scoreboard, it looks awful from behind.

However the proposed southstand, no bigger than the existing one, no extra crowds to what already exists - hard to see where the objection is going to stick.

Well, I guess if you can't claim continious residence in the same house since 1890, you've got no grounds for complaint.

Why not move to Yeadon .... Then start complaining about aircraft noise.

Firstly, the YCC Carnegie Stand faces back out onto mainly landlord owned shared student houses and therefore I suspect nobody really cared what they built, unfortunately!

The South Stand backs onto Newport View which is mainly semi-detached houses which are by their nature still owner occupied houses, even in Student Land! I think the rumblings are coming from them about the size of both Carnegie stands and some worry that the Rhinos would want to build a new double deck stand in a similar vein. I think the planners have been advising Leeds that this was not a good option and the new stand should be as low in height as practicable without compromising the design or use as a modern stand in which to view the game. The new South Stand is going to be a little higher than previous because it will have steeper terracing steps and of course a cantilever roof (although pitched away from the houses like the Carnegie stand).

I think this is the discussion and I am sure that the planning officers will be satisfied when the application does go in that they are happy with it and therefore it will be a shoe-in! Some locals may still complain but as you say, they don't have any case really!

You might not be able to park your car round the stadium or the surrounding headingley area soon when the residents parking scheme with timed parking restrictions comes into force shortly certainly before the start of next seasn - as a previou post mentioned about moving to yeadon due to living nr the stadium he can now go park there and walk to the ground on match days

So glp, the whole sorrounding areas in Headingley are gonna become resident parking only?

I've been done twice at Knowsley Road (in the side roads) while the game was on. This is exactly the kind of thing that those Traffic Tw*ts love. They'll wait until everyone in watching the game then, like the spineless gets they are, they'll ticket as many cars as they can.

I was done at Wakey. Pissing coppers walked past us whilst we were getting out of our car. I suspect they were the ones that issued the ticket!

As for how I get to the ground, I haven't driven to Headingley 'for years' and I use either public transport or taxis to get close enough. One of the main reasons that some of us would like facilities in the ground that would allow having a good sit down for a couple of hours both before and after the game is to help lesson some of the immediate post-match congestion around the stadium.

Clearly the parallels of moving close to an international airport, one that's been an active airfield since at least WW2 and those that choose to complaint about a major sporting venue active since 1890 on their doorstep has, like the planes at Yeadon, gone over your head. If you don't like crowds, then why move close to it the first place ?

NIMBY parking schemes solve nothing except move the problem to someone else's neighbourhood, you've still got the same number of cars to park - they'll just park in someone else's street - end result for easing traffic congestion, reducing pollution and increasing usage of public transport - NIL.

Its rather like successive governments attempting to control vehicle usage by increasing motoring taxation, it simply doesn't work.
