| Quote ="G1"Ive been a season ticket holder for many years and many of those have been far far worse than under McDermott and many pre super league were much worse.
That said, in later years I bought them mainly because it was something son and I did together as a social activity and, since he flew the nest to Uni it's something a friend and I do together, usually involving a curry or a feed before hand.
I may or may not renew and I have bemoaned the poor games served up under Mcdermott but how can anyone who sits at home watching telly feel superior to me because I go out to the rugby and socialize with friends and family. It's my dollar, I'll spend it how I wish.'"
Absolutely spot on post.
Personally I haven't bought a ST since 2004 when I was 18 as I found myself too busy on Friday nights to attend enough games. I usually get to roughly 6-8 home games a year so makes sense financially not to buy a ST. It's also not a case of picking the big games either, I go to whatever ones I'm free and available to attend (I missed Wigan this year but saw Salford).
Why this faux concern about how other people spend their money & time I don't get. If you pay to go to a game then yes their is a possibility you could be disappointed with the quality of the game......but that's life. Restaurants, cinemas, holidays etc. all things you pay for that you can't be certain of whether you'll get the value of your cash.
If someone doesn't think attending games is value for money then that's fine but they shouldn't looked down upon/pity/mock those that choose to go. If I was a 'fan' of a sport but wasn't enjoying it as so many on here claim then I wouldn't spend my time on message boards talking about the sport.
So should we pity those that attend......or pity those that dislike something yet spend time following albeit from behind a keyboard. Money isn't the only thing that can have a value, time does too....and is talking about something you have apathy for getting good value for your time?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion but I think your analogy (above) is a little flawed.
I agree that if you were to go to a restaurant and have a bad meal then you'd be unlikely to go back, but if you were to regularly go to the same restaurant but sometimes you were served a two Michelin Stared meal and others a BigMac and fries but you'd never know which you were to get it'd be a tad frustrating.
With restaurants, cinemas, holidays etc you can pre-empt the value you are going to get to a certain extent. For example it'd be unlikely that you'd be served a poor meal at the Fat Duck or spend £3K on a cruise aboard the QEII and I doubt you'd dirty sheets on your bed.
With the Rhinos you never know which team is going to turn up, one day it's Côte de bœuf, the next Findus Crispy Pancakes.

| As has been said it suits some to buy a ST and others not. If the ST includes a seat there is the advantage that you have your regular viewing point reserved and have familiar other supporters around. Also in sport you cannot predict which will be the best games for entertainment, so a disadvantage with picking and choosing is that you could miss the best tries and moves of the season. I got my first ST in late 50's for the South Stand before maturing to the North Stand where we became "Members" with our names on our seats. In those days too there was plenty of dross, but that happens in sport.
However I recall witnessing individual brilliance from players of both sides in games where you wouldn't have expected it. So not buying a ST is no guarantee you can pick the best entertainment by only going for the so called big games (that are on TV anyway.)
I don't understand why some of those that no longer have STs wish to talk down to those that still buy them. The same individuals at the end of last season were predicting falling income for Leeds and promoting the idea of ditching the STs to teach GH a lesson. Well that worked didn't it. Increased attendance means increased revenue and if more of this is from non STs then more profit too.
Nantwich says he has lost interest in Leeds. I would never have guessed from the volume of misinformed ramblings he posts on here

Yes sport does have much more unpredictability in that regard......but that is also a good thing as it can surprise you much more when it's great but the payoff of that is that it can disappoint much more too.
But that is and will always be the way with sport, if people don't like that kind of unpredictability in relation to their money then perhaps sport isn't for them.
Some have said this year that because they've heard of people not attending games anymore because they've lost interest in going that it shows the game is really bad. What they don't think about is that whenever they first started going, whether it was 20/30/40/50 years ago, that they WILL HAVE been other people losing interest and stopping attending just as someone new was getting into the habit of going. It must have done otherwise attendences would have gone up every year without fail until they got to ridiculously high levels.

Some people don't half get prickly and defensive......if I lived closer perhaps I too probably would be guilty of being sucked into attending more often: the matches I have attended in person have been when I could afford the time and money involved in a 4 hour minimum round trip. Always I hope they will 'turn it on'....only to leave hugely disappointed.
The point I was making is that we should [i[uall[/u[/i feel short changed when the team can play as it did in their last game against Wigan. So much dross this season in front of paying spectatators is IMO hard to excuse. I understand it but cannot condone it.
Incidentally the room was indeed dark ...., but I had my two step-sons with me and we gorged on beer with a farting/belching contest commensurate with our regular "lads night in"

You could be season ticket holder at somewhere like Cas, where that team turns up at home once-a-season when blue & amber are in town

Fine, but just explain again why you have to "pity" season ticket holders?
Believe me, I neither want nor need your pity.
Like I say, it's my dollar and I've got enough of them that if I want to spend my Friday nights at Headingley I will. I don't feel pity for you sat in your house watching celebrity big brother or whatever it is you do with your Fridays (I'm sure it's riveting).

"Pity" in the general sense of the supporters that should be the most valued are perversely being the most short changed......nothing personal. Don't take it so.
Friday night is 'business night' ...pity me if you wish: either way I, personally, do not care and see no sense in reacting so.

| As has been said, i was a season ticket holder at Leeds way before SL began when the rugby served was not the best.I was in my youth then and it was my dad who took me and my brothers to the games. It was a great way for my dad to spend time with his boys watching the game we all loved, and despite what rugby was on offer, some of my best memorys of my younger days are from My regular Season Ticket outings to Headingley and most of them dont include the actual watching of the match itself.
Unfortunately, since SL began i have never had a ST due to being away in the forces and being in jobs which require me to work at times which cause me to miss too many games.Plenty of my mates still have them, and i know have a great time socialising at weekends through it.I regret i am unable to partake in most of it but would jump at the chance of being a ticket holder again if my time allowed me.
Going to the games on a ST means a lot more to people, for many different reasons, than just the 80 minutes you see see at the ground.

Why does attending a game mean you've been "sucked in". Maybe the problem is that some are unrealistically expecting a performance like the Wigan one on a regular basis. I do wonder just how much sport some on here have actually played, if any. It's not that simple or easy to be at the best everytime you play, especially in team sports like RL when it requires 17 performers (with 17 others trying to stop you doing it).
If Leeds play badly then I feel disappointed for the players because I do know they can play better (but I do realise its not that straight forward to do) and its them for whom its more than a few hours hobby on a Friday night. It's everyday of every year until they retire, they're the ones who spend the hours practising, spend the hours fitness/conditioning/strength training, spend the very hard hours overcoming the injuries......that people then feel bad for themselves because they spent something along the lines of an hour or two wage instead of staying home is quite tragic.
Like I've said previously, if the risk of not possibly getting 'value' on £20 is too much for you then perhaps sport isn't right for some people.

Post about Leeds season ticket holders and second post in mentions Huddersfield's fans WTF?
Giants season tickets very good value and highly recommended, maybe a few Rhinos fans should come to watch a team who will try week in week out during the season.
They could then buy tickets for the Rhino playoff games, alternatively save your money altogether and don't buy a worthless Rhino season ticket and just but tickets for the play offs.
It will probably do the trick and give the club a kick up the so they realise fans would like to see the team play weekly not just for 4 games, walking all over the season ticket holders at the moment!!!

| I started supporting Leeds about the same time as Juan Cornetto although I only got an ST in the 1970s.I have lived in USA for personal reasons since 2011 and have not been able to get home this year I had been doing two visits a year 4 games.Next year I intend to spend more time at home and call it homesickness or sentiment, but I am seriously thinking of getting an ST for next year.I know I will lose on the deal I will miss more than I will see,but I have supported Leeds through every stage of my life, even through the bad times.Right now I miss the after game pint on a friday

| I don't pity Leeds supporters ,season ticket holders or casual supporters.Leeds have had fantastic success in recent years.Compare that with supporters of clubs such as Wakefield and Bradford who are struggling for cash to pay players' wages. Most of the lower clubs are hoping to find a wealthy benefactor such as Koukash to turn up to help them out.

| I don't buy a season ticket because I expect them to play like robots and win every week. I don't buy a season ticket because I am loyal to the club and think I should. I buy a season ticket because I actually enjoy going to watch a game of rugby played by my local premier team. A season ticket is the most economical method of paying for tickets and that's it.
If you feel you don't want to go because you don't think it is entertaining rugby, that's fine, it's your money and you can spend it how you like. If you're not enjoying it, why would you come?
I don't really see an argument in this. If you think season ticket holders are fools then you obviously don't enjoy watching a game for the purpose of watching a game. If you only buy it for loyalty and lambast those that don't, you're probably one of the vulgar idiots that swears at the top of his voice all match because the linesman is wearing that 'non-manly colour of pink'.
Is there nobody else on here that goes because they enjoy an evening out watching rugby with friends/family, if we play well and/or win then it's a bonus?

For the analogy to work properly you'd have to be asked to pay for 14 meals in one single payment in November of this year and then only be able to visit the restaurant twice a month at which point the rest of your analogy kicks in and you hope for gourmet rather than burger.

| I think that Huddersfield were ok to put out the team they did. They'd earned it by claiming top with a game to spare, the only problem I'd have had with it is if the Bulls were still in for a playoff spot as it wouldn't be fair to the other teams. But alas it wasn't effecting anybodies league position.
