I wouldn't know.
Could anyone else answer the question:
What has Brown actually won as a coach??
He's been in plenty of finals and good positions but what has he won??????

What difference does it make? What had Mourinho won before managing Porto? What had Smith won before joining Leeds? Or Millward/Anderson before joining Saints?
If you were talking about someone who had coached over here for years you might have a point. but he's a young coach who has only been in the country just over a season and has put together a very, very good side for a club that is historically something of a cellar dwellar. The side looks brilliantly coached, reached a final last year and could well win something this year.

| I'm going to stick up for Brown here on the "what has he won" stakes. Yes he had a talented team in the NRL and never got them over the line but he was a young coach and played with the majority of players that he had to tell what to do. That's a hard thing to do, just ask Darryl Powell.

Confusing argument:
Smith - won promotion before joining Leeds
Daniel Anderson - won Coach Of The Year when he was at Warriors IIRC before Saints.
Millward - zilch at Leigh. But turned them from a relegation fearing side to a top side in that division. Which is winning of sorts.
So the above have done something there haven't they before they have gone on to bigger pictures.
I'm interested to know what's he won?? Don't see why it's a bad question to ask?? Honest question - honest answer please.
Some people are very defensive over fair questions.

If you think getting a team relegated (with a record number of consecutive defeats for a coach who has held on to his job in British Rugby League) then winning a part time league with a full time side is more of an achievement than what Brown has done with Huddersfield, I fear there is little point debating this.

Where have I said:
'winning a part time league with a full time side is more of an achievement than what Brown has done with Huddersfield'
I haven't. You are lying. Simple as that.
I showed you the respect of answering your simple question:
What has Smith won?
I answered that easy question with a fact and then you scorn.
Hmmmm.
You are being very creative with my words and you don't structure your point well at all so there is no point discussing this with you.
'you fear' - not for the first time I bet.

I have no idea what that's meant to mean
Dave Clarke won the Championship with Barrow last year, perhaps he'd be a better bet than Nathan Brown, who has of course never won anything.

| I look at whether a coach has improved a team.
Tony Smith inherited a great squad at Leeds and didn't have too much to do in terms of personnel but, no doubt, he made a vast improvement.
I look at Huddersfield under Brown's tutelage and, again, he has improved them significantly.

John Kear improved Wakey also. But I would burn my season ticket if the club ever considered appointing him.

What happened when we appointed an untested Bell or powell?
Did you burn yer season ticket then ?
I'd be very surprised if Bluey did move on after this season and i've already posted who i'd like to see if that occurred but surely you'd support whoever GH brought in especially someone like Kear.

Barrow are full time and throwing money around for fun,in fact their owner tried to block the decrease in the salary cap so he could invest even more in players.

I would never support a move for John Kear. I have been coached by him myseld previously, and have had contact with many players who have played under him. He is a 5h1tehouse of a coach, who is found out quite quickly.

They're not the only ones though and didn't have the benefit of some of the squad playing together in SL the year before as Hudds did after their relegation.

Really?
Shame he wasnt a 5h1tehouse of a coach in 2005 when he guided Hull to the CC glory beating all SL teams along the way including ourselves in the Final.
Im not saying he is good enough for Leeds but to say he is a "5h1tehouse of a coach" is a ridiculous comment to make with the evidence clearly against you.

| Most players think their coach is a shi1thouse of a coach when he doesn't pick them.
Kear has a reputation in superleague that stands without question, if you are a house of a coach you don't get to keep regular appointments at this level.
I think the problem is with the player in this case.

And doing the same with Sheffield in '98 and keeping a poor Wakefield team from relegation, then taking an average Wakefield team into a very good 5th in the league last season. Not to mention vastly improving their youth system.
He may not be the best coach in the league but there are quite obviously quite a few worse coaches in the league than him.
Also quite a few players seem to enjoy playing for him.

| Nathan Brown's achievement at Huddersfield is taking them from a 10th place finish in 2008 to a 3rd place finish in 2009 in his first season in charge, while also taking the team to the Challenge Cup Final which is generally accepted as a major distraction to League form.
(The only other time such an improvement has been seen in the SL Era with regards finishing positions from one season to the next was when Mick Potter took Les Catalans from 10th to 3rd from 2007 to 2008 in his third season in charge.)
At the same time Huddersfield recorded the third biggest improvement in points conceded from one season to the next in SL history. They conceded 265 fewer than in 2008, trailing only Leeds' 282 fewer in 1997 than 1996 and Wakefield's 282 fewer in 2006 than 2005.
I'm pleased to see Nathan Brown's coaching finally getting some recognition on these boards even if it is eight months later than some others.

| Coaches tend to have (with the notable exception of Sir Alex Ferguson) a lifecycle at a single club. Unless the playing squad is turning over significantly it's easy for players to get used to hearing the same voice saying the same things every week and just stop listening.
Freshening the place up by introducing a new head coach is often a productive way to avoid this.
For those who have a dig at Brown for failing to get St George across the line in the NRL despite the talent available to him, he's not the first and he won't be the last coach to go into a season with arguably the best squad in the competition and not win it.
