The rules say, running in and punching off guard, Bailey ran in towards Bateman, he initiated the confrontation with Bateman.
And as for punching, Bailey was punching too, he just lost the fight.
Bailey ran towards the wigan players and invaded there space, if he hadn't done that, there would have been no fight. If your little angels would have just accepted the high shot and moved on, no fight would have occurred.'"
Which is why spear tackle is a different offence.
15.1(d) Uses a Dangerous Throw
Spear Tackle: Drives a player into the ground onto their head/neck. E-F.
It wasn't technically a spear. It was still a dangerous throw, it was still a red. And it's still 3 games minimum.

The didn't throw him, they still had hold of him, that's the difference again.
Anyways, you're clearly not gonna change your mind, and neither am I. I'm gonna leave this here.

All of this doesn't negate the fact we lost Wigan wanted it more than us. Fair play'"
Fair play, good game played in an aggresive manner, prolly a damn site more entertaining than foozeballs premier club knockout competition which I believe was played today? Also, I see no mention anywhere in this thread about saint mcguires kick into the chest of george williams afterbeing tackled later in the 2nd half

| I thought it was an excellent game - Wigan got their game plan correct McDermott didn't. The intensity of Wigan put Leeds off, probably a preparation issue with Leeds underestimating what Wigan would throw at them.
Not picking Briscoe was a big error and losing Watkins left a huge hole on the right. BJB failed to catch one ball tonight and failed to make one metre in collision.
Fair play to Wigan they came with a plan and executed it - best team won on the night

And theres me thinking i'd imagined the Mcguire/Williams incident. Very petulant and probably upset about being caught by a hooker when he could have passed. As a neutral i have to say Kevin Sinfield has always been one of my favourite players but today he looked pedestrian compared to what he used to be. Wigan just seemed to want it more.

its an attitude thing which stems from the mentality going in.its very hard to switch it on mid game and of course we never did match wigan in the intensity stakes.'"
TBH I think anybody questioning the attitude of a team containing the likes of Peacock, Sinfield, Leuluai, Delaney etc as treating a game vs Wigan like an exhibition is the most embarrassing thing.
Did Wigan show more enthusiasm, yes. But Leeds playing in exhibition mode? No, not only disrespectful to the likes of Leeds players but also the Wigan players, they played their socks off yet only beat a Leeds team "on exhibition mode" by 4 points and almost lost it at the end.

That was an amazing tackle and indicative of Wigan's greater desire....it was also unfortunately another indication of McGuire's reticence to admit he has lost that extra yard of pace and frustration when again he is reminded. If only he would accept it then we would have seen a winning try from BJB.
BJB would have been a hero, but still played crap. I bet the good doc is wondering why his club signed him on this performance.

| Wigan definitly wanted it more. You could see it from the first few minutes.
It must have been like a jungle in the wigan changing room beforehand. You can only imagine what was going on in there, as the ape was delivering his battle cry to end all wars to his pride of young viscious lions.

You need to open your other eye. Leeds are no strangers to niggling and tonight was no different, nor are they strangers to encroaching the 10 and tonight was no different. As for the no try, Moon knocked it on to Manfredi, clear as day. Besides which, it should never have been that close considering Ablett's forward roll pass to Hall.

Ok maybe exhibition mode is the wrong term, but my point is leeds were clearly not going into that game with the expectation of the intensity that wigan would bring to it which they did.like I said, its all about approach to these things and I think we went in with the belief it would be easier than it was.not disrespecting leeds players at all by thinking this,it was as day to see.Wane was clever and used this to his advantage by ensuring his team were in our faces from minute 1 and we just couldnt adapt to it so fair play to them.
im sure mac wont make the same mistake again, certainly not against a wane led wigan, and next time we play them we will be bang at it.

| My observations (for what they're worth).
Wigan definitely more up for the game
Wigan needed the win more than Leeds
Wigan lucky the ref allowed their bending of the rules
Leeds had injured players absent too (take note Sky)
Never seen what BJB brings to the table - hopefully won't see him in a Leeds shirt again
But for a 1/24th of a second knock on Leeds would have won.
Wane is a heart attack in the waiting
