For all those still confused, consider the following situation:

A player (player A) from a team loses his boot defending at the opposition 20m, so he sits down to tie his boot as play moves down towards his own line. He's not very good at tying laces so he takes a little while.

The ball is handed back to his team 10m out from their try line. At the ptb, one of his team mates (player B) makes a break and pelts down field. The opposition only have the FB who is in any sort of position to catch him. Player A finishes tying his boot and stands up. Player B rushes past him but is caught by the defender. Player B passes the ball to Player A who catches it and scores under the posts. Your verdict, try or no-try?

Player A clearly was offside at the ptb. Did his own player put him onside by running past him... don't be trying to fool me that you think he did!

Player A never gave up the advantage he had from being offside (by a mile in this case) just as Webb didn't on Friday.

Yes, this is an exaggerated case but it illustrates the point of the rule.

Accepting this ruling, why does a different rule apply to offside at a kick than offside at a ptb. You can be 90 yards in front of the kicker but only have to give the returner 10 yards. Net gain 80 yards. You tackle the returner, cause a knock on, gather the ball yourself and stroll under the posts to score. Onside at the kick and you are never there to make that tackle. Anomolies like this need removing.

And don't be fooled by any logic that may be contained in this post. I'm still paranoid that the only time such rules are invoked are to stop Leeds winning.

I think you'll find it has something to do with the stick that was dished out by leeds fans when Wakey had complaints about klien in a game a few years back. The fact that leeds fans seem to now be having a similar dummy spit is I imagine why there are some Wakey fans on here having a pop.

Because the rule is to cover offside at the ptb. As you state, other rules have been put in place to cover kicks, which take place after the ptb, with the team in possession putting the ball up for grabs.

P.S. If it is any consolation - Bulls supporters more than any others know how it feels (rule changes after two GFs and a re-statement of the rules after the MM against the Rhinos to name just 3 times)!

Without wading back through 23 pages, it's a good job for Ellery Hanley that officials had a collective blind spot over this rule during his illustrious playing career - otherwise half his try scoring tally could have been chalked off.

Was that the game where one of the spectators threatened the Radio Leeds commentary team during the first half and the club had to provide a security guard for James Deighton while he continued with his second half commentary - my god that was a funny evening



The best bit was reserved for the end though when they thanked the security guard for looking after them that evening and he asked if he could say hello to his mum in Bramley, turned out he was a Leeds supporter who made his living from the Wakey club

That reminds me of the days when Wakey used to make a living out of Leeds - prepare for the funny bit. We'd have a few OK young kids, we'd sell them at vastly over inflated prices to Leeds. Then Leeds would over pay and underplay them - but they would be set up for life. Then we would get them back usually after an even more lopsided in our favour player exchange fresh as daisies and ready to hit their peak as players.
