| Quote ="Simmo71"Watching the YouTube clips, he looks like he runs hard and fast.
Probably raw due to little NRL experience, but he could go ok with Mik, Prior and Tet around him.
Most importantly he’s another body in the front row which we desperately needed.
He’ll get plenty of minutes.
And he’s low risk on a one year deal.
Probably best we could have hoped for in the current climate.'"
Achurch looked good on u tube , this guy is 25 and limited to 5 sub appearances for a poor N.R.L side ,. Yet again an underwhelming signing , we desperatley need a big quality prop and this is what we get instead

| Apparently The reason he only played 5 games last year was be ause he chose not to form part of the covid bubble that had to move to Australia, not because of how good or not he is.
Let’s give him a chance before writing the guy off.

Under circumstances with Ava what else where we supposed to do, we needed to replace Ava and at this late stage options were thin on the ground, the days of just throwing around big money to sign who we feel like are long gone. Its a steady low risk signing that can go either way if he is even half decent it gives us some depth and cover.

| Not sure its that low risk. What if a player becomes available in a couple of months and we cant get him because we dont have a quota spot? Doesn't necessarily have to be a world beater but a genuine prop who could do some quality donkey work for a year or two whilst our kids develop. With Holroyd, thompson, smith and a hooker where does this lad get in our match day squad nevermind improve our go forward against the big boys.

| What if? Spent last year waiting for a prop to be come available and there was nothing. The club have made a decision, time will tell if it is good or not, but waiting till the middle of the season with only four props was the equivalent of sailing towards an iceberg. Whether its from the stands or sat at home I'll be cheering for him. He seems a lovely lad, and he might just be a good un.

Not strictly true that Chris. He did move to Aus but chose to cut it short to go back to his family in New Zealand. Which is probably one of the reasons for a 1 yr deal.
Lets see how he goes and what he offers. Fijians are usually skilful and athletic so he might bring something. Hes a bit of size about him so lets see if hes upto it.
Fingers crossed it works out for all.

| It gives us depth in an areas we're weak. That allows us to rotate and rest Holdroyd and others. It also covers for inevitable injuries.
It's not a signing that sounds like it ups the quality massively, but time will tell

| Hadnt heard of him before we announced him yday, watched 2 of his games for fiji against PNG and Samoa from 2019 ociana cup last night and got to say, i was impressed ,looked hard to handle on his hitups and hits hard on D, Looked decent size and very athletic. Made good yards after contact on his carrys.
Edit. Looking at his NRL stats, he looked to be really finding his feet at that level before lockdown, his last 3 games he averaged:
9.6 carrys, 100.6 meters, 10.4 meters per carry....The yards per carry stat is very good. That was against some decent packs in the Dragons, Panthers and Cowboys.
Small sample size i know, but got me feeling pretty optimistic about his signing

OK i have finished on the subject and like you will give him my 100% support , but a lovely lad and might be a good un ( no one else wanted him ) is not what we want if we are to get anywhere near the likes of Saints and Wigan or even Wire . Of course i have been wrong before and nothing will make me happier than the Guy being a success !

Agree 100%.
If we wait til mid season, a couple of injuries and we could be in a relegation battle.
Not the wrecking ball superstar we all wanted, but realistically in current climate that was not going to happen.
I’m looking forward to seeing how he goes.

Sounds promising, although, you have to bare in mind that the NRL calculates meters differently to opta, so those meter stats will be inflated, and not a true reflection.

| If we were willing to compromise and buy another 'middle' rather than a prop I'd sooner they got Greenwood and left the overseas spot available for a quality prop when they became available.

| No problem with this , yes he's raw at elite level but id rather we put a 1yr gamble on signings like this than recall Ferres or give a 3yr deal to a one legged shot Crosby.
He looks powerful & he's certainly keen enough im looking forward to seeing how he gets on.
I still rhink we need more quality rather than quantity but we have a lot of SC space to play with at the end of this year so if King pays off its win win & more £ on a 6 & retaining our best Youngsters.

| Given that there are plenty of other super league clubs in the market for an overseas prop at the moment I'd suggest it's highly unlikely that there wasn't other interest. We have landed two props in the space of the month, one a top level international who will be as good as anything else in the league, and one who who is something of gamble. Sometimes you have to take a chance and good on the club for doing so. How many top line Aussie props do people thing are going to pop over to Covid ridden England in the middle of a pandemic?

Yeah the meter stats are measured differnt to over here, but when i say the 10.4 per carry stat is very good, thats in comparison to other NRL forwards we'v signed in the past, been linked with, that have joined other superleague clubs, or under the radar forwards iv taken an interest in that have impressed me, that iv researched and taken stats from... all using the NRL.Com stats system.
Over those 3 games, his post contact meters were very good...54 post contact meters from 11 total runs against the panthers for example, best pcm per run of all forwards in that game, both teams... Tetavano made 53 post contact meters from 16 total runs in the same game.
Again, very, very small sample size, and im not trying to sell him as some world beater, but after my initial, who is he, after finding out more and wathching a couple of games, im pleasantly suprised and pretty optimistic about him. In his limited action he seems to do what imo we'r crying out for, a prop who runs it in hard and makes good yards after contact.
