I have just got in from work and seen the tragic news on BBC ceefax. I am at a loss - probably the same feeling I had when Billy Bremner passed away. The term legend is used too easily these days - John Holmes was not only a rugby league legend he was a true gentleman and had the time of day for anyone.

My condolences to John's family at this very sad time.

When you consider the contribution made whether its statistical or the intangibles of a great character then for me that needs respecting in the TRADITIONAL way first and foremost.That demonstrates our feelings towards his memory AND towards his family(who MAY be present).They are first and foremost.
I would then happily join in spontaneous applause and displaying of our colours because he inititiated that so many times when on the pitch.

I do think the joy of what soemone brings to life should be remembered as well as the dismay at the passing.

I have no problem with a minute's applause, I quite like it in fact, but as a supplement to the minute's silence, not a substitute.

It would be nice should Leeds be successful in reaching the Grand Final if the shirts for the occasion could bear some sort of logo or design in memory of possibly the club's greatest ever player.

Maybe a number six and his name, in the same way the Barrie McDermott testimonial season shirts had a design on the sleeve?

I don't see a problem with a minutes applause, I actually quite like it. The idea that the fact I defend it means I am incapable of standing in silence for one minute is just ridiculous.

My dad wanted Fiesta by The Pogues played at his funeral, and that's exactly what he got. Everyone at the funeral thought it was entirely appropriate for the man he was, and in difficult times, everyone raised a smile. I never saw John Holmes play but I would say a minutes applause for a great career and, i'm led to believe, a great man, would be entirely appropriate.

Don't mind admitting i'm an armchair supporter now & respect those who go week in & week out, it takes a special talent to intice me to headingley nowadays, i'll be there friday, the most special talent of all has inticed me to observe that 1 minute in his memory, I would not miss it for the world.
