Every player is Wigan born, which is what this thread is about.
Now can you name three Leeds teams with Leeds born players to match those Wigan ones. It was difficult enough for you on first pages of the thread trying to name one decent one without having to give places to "ringers"
As I said 39 players, 37 Internationals, 7 International captains, and I've left Internationals out.
Even in your super Leeds team now how many Leeds born lads are there?

Who cares? We’re current Champions and you’re not… and the thread is called LEEDS Born, what makes you think anyone on here gives a flying fook about a Wigan born 13?

Now, my over compensatory friend, you have got yourself all confused as to where and when you are.
You are on the LEEDS board post on a thread titled LEEDS Born in the year of our Lord 2009.
So I’ll ask again (for the hard of reading)
What makes you think that any Leeds fan is bothered about a Wigan born team of your choosing?
Do try and answer this time old chap.

Well as you know, I do post on here occasionally to educate. I've generally over the years had a great rapport with Leeds Rugby League supporters.
But it appears the standards are slipping at your club, in that many of your "supporters" don't appear to know who was born where.
I was merely "educating" them as to what a "real" team of home grown players should look like.
And with that I would like to wish you and all your family a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
I shall be in the Leeds supporters club in July when I'm sure you would love to buy me a beer.
Cheers.

I have to say I admire your knowledge on Wigan rugby league. So thank you for joining the debate and making it a meaningful one. The reason why I struggled is because I hardily know anything about the past players of Leeds. But hopefully someone (a Leeds fan) will come along with a serious debate to contest your claims without dictating that the thread is a one angled one.
Surely you have to agree that some individual players are better than some of the all time Wigan born greats on the list including Robinson and Hanley.'"
Leeds have had some great players. I loved watching John Holmes, Les Dyl, Phil Cookson etc (I'm not sure if they were Leeds born)
Paul Medley scored one of the best tries I ever saw at Central Park. As I said I'm not sure where a lot of these players were born.
Ellery would just get into my all time Wigan seventeen. Jason was great player but wouldn't make it as we've had many better wingers but not necessarily Wigan born. He would however get in my Wigan produced (through the academy system team)

Nice to see that you’ve shown some respect to some of the Leeds players. For a moment I though it was going to slip into another my dads better than your dad debate too early.
I’d have to say the Wigan born players that I’ve mainly admired over the last two decades are Sean Long and Kris Radlinski. Thankfully one of them is still playing if not as good.
However to say that Ellery would just get into your all time Wigan team is a bit crazy and deluded because he’s arguably (and from Leeds) the best British born player to play the game. Unless you had some of the all time greats from Australia or New Zealand (of which I highly doubt it) playing stand-off or loose forward then you have a point.
Robinson yeah your probably right.

Hanley would be behind Brett Kenny, David Bolton and probably Ces Mountford as stand offs.
Shaun Edwards would be my scum half.
I wouldn't agree that Hanley was the best ever British player. That accolade would fall to either Alex Murphy or Billy Boston.
Hanley was a great player and one of if not the best of his generation. However his lack of a passing and kicking game keeps him out of my half backs, so he would have to be at loose forward.
The reason I said Wigan 17 is that in many ways Hanley would be the ideal sub, as he could cover three or four positions, but in reality I would have him at 13 and move Farrell into the second row or sub.

| Bearing in mind I know very little of the players from more than 40 years ago, a Leeds born 13 could look like:
1. Mick Shoebottom
2. Alan Smith
3. Syd Hynes
4. Garry Schofield
5. John Atkinson
6. John Holmes
7. Jeff Stevenson
8. Jamie Peacock
9. David Ward
10. Steve Pitchford
11. Bill Ramsey
12. Paul Medley
13. Ellery Hanley
Replacements from: Jason Robinson, James Lowes, Gareth Carvell, Kevin Dick, Danny McGuire, JJB, Ryan Bailey, Barry Seabourne, Chev walker, Dave Creasser, Dave Heron, Neil Hague, Roy Dickinson, Graham Eccles.
Whats maybe interesting is that players from the 60s and 70s are seen as legends by Leeds fans and those of other clubs but current players (who might already have achieved more domestically and won more international caps) aren't seen as worthy enough yet. Maybe that's because there's many more years to come from them or maybe its that opposition fans find it easier to give credit to players from another era than the current crop.

| If i could be d i could find 3 teams of leeds born internationals who all played for leeds, the 30's & 50's were golden era's, half backs alone: Holmes, stevenson, shoebottom, millward, seabourne, schofield, hanley, dick, Mcguire. Few caps there, the first two (arguably the best ever in their poistions) born within 2 miles of the ground.

Some names from the 1950s - P Quinn, D Hodgkinson, K McLellan (c), L Jones, G Broughton, J Lendill, J Stevenson, J Anderson, B Prior, W Hopper, B Poole, D Robinson, H Street
Which ones were Leeds born I wouldn’t know!
Lets be honest the only person to (that am aware of) has probably watched these teams is McLaren_Field Maybe he could shed a bit of light on all this.

| I know Eric Harris was an Ocker, and Lewis Jones Welsh. Jeff Stevenson was from Leeds and Stanley Brogden was possibly from Bradford originally. Beyond that not a clue.
You're right though, McField will have been to school with many of the first set of players.

Stan Satterthwaite I think was from the lake district, Eric harris was from Oz with Keith McLellan and maybe Pat Quinn, Not sure about Stan Brogden (Hudd or Brad?) or George Broughton or Fred Harris (all before my time) Lewis Jones from Llanelly, I think Harry Street was from Castleford, Don Robinson may have been Wakefield,
Bernard Poole was born in Leeds
You can add the following former greats who I think were all born in Leeds:
Leslie "Juicy" Adams, Jim Bacon, Harold Buck (first RL 1000 pound signing from Hunslet worth 140k at todays value) Geoff Gunney, Mick Sullivan, Alf Burnell,
Fred Webster was from Brotherton if that counts but sure about Brian Shaw.

Hunslet - a place that we’ve all forgotten about
There’s probably a few player from that neck of the woods who could end up in the Leeds Born XVII. For example Albert Goldthorpe who led the club to a lot of success.
Maybe if you can tell us what you remember or know about whenever these players were better than the ones put in the recent Leeds XVII list then go ahead. Lets do this for Leeds and show Wigan they only good because they the only professional Championship winning team in their city.
We have two
But still Wigan own us and Hunslet in the championship winning stats at 18 - 9
