| As for Grace's try - however bad the ref was last night the issue is the process isn't it? Video ref clearly knew he'd dropped it and it was obvious he'd dropped it but he was technically right - despite all that there wasn't a view that showed it 100% so the video ref did his job under the rules he's been given. Thought the ref was generous sending it up as a try, that's the only reason the score stood. Can only have been a 50/50 guess and therein lies the problem. Whole process needs a rethink but then as Wilkins rightly said (shudder) in any of the other numerous games where they don't have video refs in place it's given anyway. Probably more frustrating due to it's timing slap bang in the middle of an absolute horror show by a terrible ref

It's the root problem. Only one I can make any case for is Mik as he's carried the pack for too long. The youngest and most inexperienced (not really a prop either) in Walters made the most meters, prior and Tetevano should be ashamed

Smith was used to working with part time brickies and plumbers whereas Furner was used to working with full time pro’s.
I’d guess both are/were broadly disappointed with what they see.
Will Smith be allowed to kick some out or has he been signed as a patsy ?
Yet again we look like a big reset is needed.

| As others have said, Tetevano is a disgrace, and should be booted out of the club at the earliest possible chance. We then need to use what's left of his wage (we'll have to pay him off) to sign a big boppa from the Qld Cup, plus another prop from SL. I've never been more disappointed or frustrated in a signing.
On another note, Peter Smith has released his 'ratings' for the match. Tetevano got a 5/10! After being humiliated by Walmsley and Lees all night and then getting sent off, what kind of performance do you have to put in to be less than a 5?!?
I don't mind losing to Saints, and the bounce of the ball in the first half, with a couple of dodgy decisions gave them the rub of the green, but the second half was inexcusable.

| The way to get rid of Tetevano is to tell him he won’t play again and as a result he will find it harder to get a contract back home after 12/18 months of not playing than if he goes now or at the end of the season. This will work, but we have to stick with it. I suspect he will leave at the end of the season.
Re the QLD cup players, will they be eligible for work permits?

| Quote ="simonw"I thought Bentley was keeping his discipline well as the game went on in difficult circumstances for him. Was willing him to get to the end still on the pitch and hoping it could be a pivotal point where he starts to turn a corner so really disappointing to see him walk for such a stupid, petulant moment. Think it would have done him the world of good to get through that game. Tet's was just infuriating. Absolutely stupid especially given the game was long gone by that point.
Best team won and no complaints about the outcome but was absolutely blown away with how bad the referee was from the very start - heavily weighted in Saints favour (was it 4/5 questionable tries?) but I think it was coincidence - he was equally poor for both I thought (Zak's high tackle anyone?). It's a shame because if you take away the scores coming as a direct result of clear refereeing mistakes there could have been a really good game in this. Newman looked fantastic and hungry and how good was that passage of play where they made 80 metres with the off the cuff play? Some positives in there if you dig deep enough. Ultimately another disappointing night for lots of reasons.'"
Zak’s high tackle after another bizarre call against Leeds are you on about? The one on the young kid?
How did it even get to that moment? Bentley had the ball stripped in a two on one tackle, that was waved as play on resulting in the high tackle and a drop out. Now, I’m no professional referee, but why wasn’t a penalty awarded?
At the end of the day, Leeds were crap and the refereeing of the game even worse.

| Don't remember specifically, there was a high tackle by Zak up near our goal line that went completely unnoticed. May well be the one you're talking about and yep - like a lot of key moments in last night's game, it should never have got to that point - a catalogue of errors from the start. Was just pointing out that I don't think he was biased, he was just terrible throughout. We were just unlucky that I think most fell against us. No bias, just incompetence.

| I thought the ref was absolutely appalling. Agree, not biased, also agree it did seem the more crucial decisions went against Leeds. However, there were also quite a few the other way. Did it have an effect on the result, no. Did it have an effect on the score, maybe. The tackle by Tetavano was one of the worst I've seen, late and high, surprised Walmsley got nothing though. Bentley, well he's just stupid. Thompson was reactionay, but a trip is a trip, left the ref with no other decision.

| Genuine question. At what point (if any) can you terminate a player's contract for picking up repeated bans, time after time after time?
Is there anything we can actually do or are we stuck with this clown on marquee money, sitting on the sidelines, unavailable for selection the majority of the time.

From the resulting set he then gave a turnover after Saints had knocked on, and missed a forward pass for the Walmsley try.
In 3 consecutive sets of 6 he managed to get 4 decisions wrong. Must be some sort of record.

| Same prolems as always.
Until we get a better pack that can make hard yards, break some tackles and put in some good ( legal) hits we just aren't going to score enough,no matter who the HBs are.
Mik is still carrying our pack,no real leaders on the field, slow back line mostly ( Newman apart) and rare to see skill or tactics in play.
Will take the coach a season or two to get the team he wants. I think RS is capable of that, but GH might hav to splash some cash.

| It must be massively frustrating to be a Leeds fan right now. That game had everything really and there is a lot of potential in that team. You showed some real attacking intent, moved the ball well and Newman and Hardaker looked dangerous. You defended well in spells as well, some great goal line scramble and commitment on show. But you managed to concede 40 outside of those moments and it could have been nearer 50 had Makinson packed his kicking boots.
I was really impressed with Walters for you though ,there is so much raw potential there. He could end up being an outstanding prop in the Walmsley mould if he continues to progress and adds to his frame. He was everywhere and didn't shy away from anything. There's a lot of talk about the likes of Oledzki and Gannon, but Walters looks a fantastic prospect on that evidence.
Not sure what provoked Tetavano's tackle. You could see the regret oozing out of him as he stood waiting for his inevitable card. But to do it to Konrad of all people was just bizarre. Your discipline is an enormous issue that Smith is going to have to fix. I'd fix Zane's by telling him to leave and work with the rest. Bentley can come good, he's just trying too hard to impress and struggling to contain his frustration. The referee was calamitous last night I'll admit, some shocking decisions. With us having most of the ball inevitably you suffered on some of his bizarre 'Try' calls, but his one for the knock on by your player was equally hilarious, it was right in front of him. Despite his ineptness, the reaction from several of your players just wasn't good enough. Austin, Sezer, Hardaker and particularly Newman could all have been sent off for their reactions, some of the language you could hear at the game aimed towards the officials was poor. Newman was like a Premier League player, storming across the field to cry about the decisions, then fly out of position on the next set and expose the team. It looks like a team with no leaders to me, there's no one pulling them together and getting them to refocus. We scored directly after a lot of the decisions your players didn't agree with, not because of the decision, but because your players let it get to them.

Sums it up nicely.
Frustrating is definitely the word, every time we look like turning a corner, wether that be injuries or a win we seem to take two steps backward.
For the first time in ages we have a pretty much full squad out, then we end up with a red and two yellows.
Some of our attacking play and defensive qualities in the first half showed real promise. Yes the Ref had a shocker but the players need to react far far better than they did, leave the screaming an moaning to us fans.
I think Newman might get a talking to, not a ban but a warning.
I thin Walmsley should get cited also, yes Tetevano high shot was ridiculous but Walmsley ran in and attacked Tetevano, looked like he swung an arm at his head - Zane deserved it but that has resulted in a Ban for some players this year.
