| Quote ="Once were Loiners"Wigan have thrown down the gauntlet. London look like an on-field disaster waiting to happen, Cas look like they're not even attempting to compete at the top end and Salford look obviously weaker, but most sides are at least trying to improve. On the whole it looks like there could be quite a few competitive teams next year.
I'd imagine our style of play will look hugely different. Even just Miller at fullback adds an attacking threat and dynamism in returning the ball that we've lacked since Hardaker in 2015. Anyway, we'll pretty soon see how much of our problems this year were down to the squad vs the coach....'"
GH is right to single out Miller as a player who could take the competition by storm. Aside from the pace and footwork he'll add from kick returns, it's his willingness to look for gaps from first and second receiver that will be really effective. He played all his NSW Cup games as a Stand Off and that's where he'll be if we have any injury to Croft or Frawley. Think it would take Miller, Croft and Frawley to be out before we faced the prospect of Myler in the halves. That has to be a real step forward.

| Maybe Sinfield is selected ahead of Myler too - if RS rated Myler he wouldn’t have signed 2 new FBs and 2 new HBs since arrival…
Begs the question of whether Myler will get a game in first grade next year but we’ll see. I don’t mind him as FB cover.
The only thing I am fairly sure about is a top half table finish next year for Leeds. Anyone’s guess beyond that.

| if we lose a winger (Fus) to injury thats possibly mylers first opportunity with Miller going to the wing. As much as i want to see him attacking from FB, Myler FB with Miller wing is certainly preferable to Olpherts (has he not gone yet?!)

Think Sinfield is ahead of Myler in the halves. That said, Myler should play quite regularly. If Miller is out he'll be full back. If Croft or Frawley are out, Miller goes to the halves and he's at one. Only if all the Aussies are out would he partner Sinfield at seven, with Edgell filling in at full back. That's what I'd do anyway.

I think you’re right, will be interested with a full pre-season whether Edgell or Lumb might push past Myler for first choice reserve but he is the best candidate right now.
I’m still wondering about our pack and whether we can compete down the middle with the top sides. Still thinking there will be one or two additional departures and maybe one or two more incoming yet.

| Myler has been consistently good for us in recent years, especially at full back. There's not many clubs who can carry that sort of quality of cover for their spine. I'm sure he'll see a decent amount of game time.

| Shouldn't Roberts be in line for a wing spot rather than moving Miller there (which would be an utter waste of his strengths)? Or is Roberts only backup for centre?

Push comes to shove I'd move Martin to centre and Momirovski to the wing. Leave Miller where he can really make a difference.

| I'd rather play as few players out of position as possible. Why sign a class centre and move them to the wing?

Because he's a good winger too. I'd play him there before Miller, and probably (if Olpherts goes) before throwing a young lad in there.

| Agree but I think Martin also needs a run at second row this year… much depends on how fit Simpson is after his injury and we have Roberts too, if Mom needs to move to wing. We actually have a few options. Then again with one of Bentley or McDonnell not even likely to make bench the temptation might be as you say.
I just feel the whole team needs a really really strong pre-season this year; we need +10% from all the young lads developing and some of our seniors rested and fit and back to form too.

| I just think its lunacy to move multiple players when one gets injured - by the way I'm not talking about during a game, that's needs must. We need squad players who can fill in as required. Moving Miller or Momirovski and Martin if one winger gets injured is the sort of thing that quickly ends up with the whole team in a mess as it knocks on elsewhere. Not to mention diluting the ability of the likes of Miller to influence a game. Far better train Roberts, Edgell up to play on the wing if needed.

Olpherts will be first choice wing and possibly even centre cover. I know staff haven’t written him off like fans have….
May move though if offered first choice rugby…which would worth out both ways too as he’s a reasonable earner….!

In this specific scenario it's not lunacy at all. Momirovski has played for three of the best club sides in the world at both centre and wing. Martin spent nearly all 2023 at centre and did a very creditable job. I'm really not sure about Robert's in general, and although he has time to develop, I just don't think he's an SL standard winger. The game has moved on from throwing young (out of position) lads onto the wing and hoping they'll make a go of it. It's a specialist position nowadays.

| Roberts got steadily better last year. Not a word beater but serviceable. I think he looked better in the centre though.

| I didn’t mind Roberts mostly. I don’t think he is the next Paul Newlove but if he’s surrounded by good players he can do a job.
I do agree that it’s generally better to keep players in preferred position - this is why the continued development of the young players this pre-season is really important so we can use them.

| It's a much better squad than in previous years for sure. The only question really is do we have enough strength in depth if we get a few key injuries. DO we have quality in the rosta for players to fill secondary roles. Hoepfully they all stay fit but over the course of a season you are bound to lose players for a few weeks here and there. Only time will tell..
Another Barrie McDermott style prop would be good..

Not a Leeds fan, so don’t know much in terms of detail, but think you’d always have to question the judgement of a man who once looked across a room, saw Kath and thought mmmm tasty!

It's a good job business acumen isn't directly related to the physical appearance of their spouse. Dragons Den would be a totally different program.
Not all people are shallow enough to be attracted to someone solely on looks.
