Why should it?
What will have a detrimental effect on Leeds Rhinos attendances is their reduction in quality of performance level, closely followed by results. Which would be the same for any other super league side, you included.

No, it's a nice train of thought that gets some Wigan & Saints fans to sleep at night but no, both teams have been around for a few moons now.
Did Wigan getting into the prem effect the Warriors attendance?

Isn't that a non point given that your attendances have gone up and Wigan Athletic are in the Premiership, albeit with smaller crowds than Leeds United got in League 1.

Well if you manage to get a 20,000 plus crowd you may just overtake our home attendance figures
If you go to the nines comp I may buy that beer I promised you. I'm undecided if I'm coming over for it though as Wigan have decided to re-arrange an U18's game v Saints on the same night.
Wonderful planning.

Leeds have been SL's best attended team in the Regular Rounds in the following seasons: (The first number after the date is the number of clubs in SL that season and the bracketed figure is the number of home rounds. Wigan's figures are included at the end for comparison.)
1999 ….. 14(15) ….. 13,482 ….. 9,206
2001 ….. 12(14) ….. 12,881 ….. 11,463
2002 ….. 12(14) ….. 12,157 ….. 10,439
2004 ….. 12(14) ….. 16,028 ….. 12,650

Id go as far to say Waneys got it wrong and if Tomkins would of suffered a broken jaw and his season was ended would he pass it off as just abit 'clumbsy' The fact is upto now is hes been handed a 3 match ban and on appeal might get it reduced to 2 games which shows the RFL up as the joke it is when almost every ban gets reduced on appeal.

Not trolling here but those figures do show a swell effect around the demise of United
2003 - 12,800 Rhino's - 36,000 United
2004 - 16,000 Rhino's - 28,000 United
This was around the season when Leeds were relegated and is rightly or wrongly what lends weight to other supporters claims. However Leeds have managed and indeed built on that increase - regardless of where it has come from and have always had a good level of support compared to all SL clubs.
I think looking at those figures most fans can admit there was bound to be some movement, for instance Leeds got relegated and had to lop off ticket prices due to the lower competition and fans and families may have been able to afford to watch both sports or casual rugby fans maybe think right I'll get a Rhino's season ticket this time and pick and choose football fixtures or simply they or their kids didn't fancy watching Crewe and Plymouth instead of Man United and Chelsea and converted to a cheaper more family orientated sport, nothing wrong with it and its more money in RL no matter what.
However the only way you could even come close to proving it would be if Leeds got promoted again and Rhino's suddenly lose 3,000 fans (without other influences - stadium work etc...) and even then without asking every fan why - there will never be any definitive reason.

On the incident itself, he was certainly clumsy rather than deliberate but it was a shocker regardless, 3 matches was fair & to me it seems a bit odd to appeal based on the fact the RFL are not going to quash it so he isn't going to be able to play at weekend, you don't need him to finish 4th anyway and if the RFL look at it as a frivolous appeal and add a game he'd miss the cup final should Leeds get there.
However the RFL past record suggest 2 games will be the outcome

You do realise that in 2003 the Rhinos got to the challenge cup final and finished 2nd in the table? then to follow this up they wiped the floor with everyone in the league in 2004 and won the championship?
Far from the demise of Leeds United, it was the start of something big for Leeds Rhinos.

Leeds United fans support a wide range of rugby league clubs.
I’m sure we have Castleford Tigers and Hull FC fans on this very board who support Leeds United as well. I think that the theory above is far fetched and a discredit to the good work that the whole club put into the 2004 season. You seem to be conveniently forgetting how many Rhinos shirts are seen at Old Trafford year after year.
Certainly more worn on that day than on a weekly basis during the season.
