| Meh, not tacking too much away from it but that try is more poor defending and breakneck speed. I'm not saying "ANYONE" could've scored it, but certainly it's probably one of the only times Dwane Chambers would've made the score sheet had he gone on to play for Cas.
The McGuire vs. Catalans was pure skill from several different players.
There's so much to love about McGuire's try. You can see Scott looking 3 or 4 times to weigh up his options. It's clear that the kick was measured. McGuire's takes it for me. The try on it's own is awesome (e.g. even had it been against Blackpool in the cup) but if you start talking about the circumstances/opponents/final score/destination upon victory of the match then that try is unbeatable.

| My favourite try at Headingley (not necessarily the best) was McGuire at home to Bradford in 2004 (I think it was Iestyn's first visit since his return from rugby union).
They kicked off to start the game, we took it in the corner of the north stand and what is now the carnegie stand, and set off back. After 2 or 3 tackles we were just short of half way, the crowd was right up for it. Wayne McDonald took a drive, offoaded back to Diskin. Diskin tipped it onto Poching, who arced towards the middle, made a half break, and there was (as you just knew he would be for that entire season) McGuire on his left shoulder at full tilt.
McGuire was 1 on 1 with Reardon, did a little goose-step and arced to the left, rounding Reardon (who may have slipped, I can't remember), to dive in infront of the packed Western Terrace (Bulls fans), in a cloud of sand that was in the ingoal area. I think this was the loudest I've ever heard the southstand, and one of the first times I believed we would win the title.
We went on to win 42-12 or something, I think McGuire got 2 and so dd Chris McKenna . Magic evening, in what is undoubtedly my favourite ever season watching Leeds.

| On the flipside of this, one of my least favourite, but most signicant tries I've seen at Headingley was Vainikolo catching Dunemann's cross field kick, setting off up the North Stand side and brushing of Calderwood (who had run from the other side of the field to try tackle him). Another super game, when us vs Bradford really meant something. I really miss those days (and I'm not trying to be patronising), I know Bradford have turned us over plenty of times since their glory times but the derby seems to have lost a lot of its edge for me.

I saw this. True quality but, sadly, not quite as good as the Hanley for Northern vs Fev try mentioned earlier by Batley which IMO is the best try scored at Headingley.

I was watching that game on Sky, as I recovered from surgery, and the moment the kick went up, I screamed 'NOOOO!' at the telly. Calderwood Or whoever was on that wing) had just driven the ball in and we had no winger on that side. How the heck the team got it so wrong is something I suppose could be answered with the words 'Daryl Powell'*.

| Leslie Vainikolos effort from just short of halfway on his farewell appearance at Headingley, when he seemed to take on half of the Leeds team, 20 yards of it backwards!
Wasn't a bad try but I don't suspect many of you Rhinos fans would vote for it!

We wouldn't vote for it because some of us have seen many, many better tries at Headingley. And that's not club bias. You might wish to note a few of us have actually voted for a try scored by a Bradford Northern player.

For the record my first match was back in 1975 so I'm a died in the wool NORTHERN man
As it goes the try Franny Cummins scored against us (on his debut??) at Headingley in the Challenge Cup wasn't a bad one. Went through our line like a knife through butter and scored from about 90 metres!

I don't know if it was his debut, but it was certainly very early on in his career.
If you ever get chance, watch that game with Stuart Duffy's commentary, from back when he was Leeds through and through. It's fantastic.

It was in his debut season (1993/94) but it was during his 16th 1st grade Leeds appearance scoring his 11th and quite possibly finest try for the club.
Not many players who enjoy a 355 game club career score their most memorable try/hit their peak at 17.
__________
Re the best try scored at Headingley - I would find the question impossible to answer given the many hundreds seen and the varied factors to consider when deciding on what represents 'best'. For me a try scored in a meaningless friendly - no matter how fantastic - would not make it on to any potential short-list.
So just to be different my favourite Headingley try was one that was disallowed. It was during the 1st league game of the 1980/81 season V the mighty Hull. Dave Heron had mesmorised the Hull defence with a combination of speed and evasion over 60 yards you had to see to believe - unfortunately for Leeds Graham Eccles and Trevor Skerrett were having an exchange of views way back downfield and having initially awarded the try it was eventually ruled out in favour of a double sending off.

I probably need a bit of help here as it is from when I was younger and I can't remember the year or opposition but I seem to recall craig Innes scoring a try I enjoyed down the south stand end.

A bit harsh, TVOC. I thought he hit his peak when he played outside Brad Godden.
But then, so did a lot of wingers at our club.

| TVOC, was the Cummins debut a two try affair V HKR? I seem to remember both him and Holroyd scoring two tries on their debuts, but obviously in different games. Oh and wasn't one of the Holroyd tries scored with only one boot on from about 30 yards out?
