Scoring goals was highlighted at the start of the season as an issue - this team needs 10-15 scoring opportunities to convert a goal. This will continue until Farke changes the way the team develops its attacking strategy.
Will they get automatic promotion - not unless they find a way to convert the chances on a more regular basis and find a way of changing the approach when away from home.'"
I’m happy with Farke in the hot seat, he’s given us a good chance of promotion after two really difficult and turbulent pre season’s. Hats off to him. I think he showed fear last season by sticking with the same players and formation when it started going pear shaped at the back end, 4 points from the last 18 and struggling to score goals. He never gave Joseph a chance when he should have done, he stuck with the likes of Piroe and Bamford who ultimately weren’t good enough. Would Joseph have made a difference ? Based on what we’ve seen this season possibly not, but it then had the knock on effect of having to blood Joseph this season and now realising he probably isn’t the answer. He should have had the game time last season to make a better judgement on him and then possibly brought another forward in who could make the difference for this season. Like I say, Farke appeared to be racked with fear in the run in and stuck with the same old players and system that unfortunately failed. Some of the goal scoring problems remain from last season, 170 corners without a goal was a joke, nobody with the required quality to score direct from a free kick, no goals from midfield (and still none this season), no centre forward fast enough to run in behind defenders to score, no centre forward smashing defenders out of the way to score with headers, I could go on. When you are finding so many ways to not score goals, mostly away from home, you will ultimately struggle. Like you say Zoe Zoe, Farke needs to start finding a way.

| Quote ="chapylad"I have said from the start that unless we get one or two quality signings in we will be in the play offs.
The fact Farke is saying he is expecting a quiet January worries me as we have been shouting from the rooftops we need a10.
I think the difference between the two teams on Saturday was that we played 3 games in a week and they played 2 which tipped it in their favour.
My thoughts before the last 3 games were played and posted on here was that Sunderland would start dropping out of the top 2, Sheffield would move top with us second.
Trust Leeds to let me down
'"
Blackburn were definitely the fresher team and you could tell. They're also no mugs at home this season..I think the squad is good enough for top 2, but it might be tight. Get a good 10 in and we might do it more comfortably... be interesting if the owners look to give the squad that final touch to push hard for auto promotion..

| Could do with a bit of quality and I see were linked to a few players but are we actually going to pull the trigger or trust that with injuries coming back that we can shuffle the pack internally?
Always a very frustrating window January.

Farke is having a good look at either Tanaka or Rothwell at 10 first according to YEP, for me if there's a good one available and it's affordable we'd be fools not to. This season we simply must go up otherwise it will be very tricky next year.

| I think it would more likely to be changed to a 4141 or 433 if he plans to play all 3 of them.

| Rothwell might go well as the 10 but not sure he has the legs to cover the ground Aaronson does.
Not that I think Aaronson is the answer but he does run around a lot.
Greenwood`s doing well on loan but I don`t think we can recall him unlike Gyabi.
We really need to bring someone in on loan McAtee would be my preferred choice.

| Burnley didn`t look anything special last night other than solid.
Have to say compared to some of the teams at the top we do look like a team of midgets up against some big blokes.
Although I keep telling my partner size doesn`t matter!
Surprised he has kept Aaronson in the 11 today so let`s hope he bags a couple of goals or assists to prove the doubters wrong.
The wind could be a leveller today.

| Comfortable win today and could should have won 4 or 5 nil.
Thought Rodon was really good along with Rothwell who seemed to be everywhere today.
Should be giving Wober another game at LB but feel he will be tested more on Tuesday.

| As Billy Davies famously said, “ job done”. Nothing less was expected, the only surprise was just how bad Derby actually were. Nice to see Rodon get off the mark and Ramazani get some more minutes under his belt. Aaronson obviously doesn’t read the socials because he played like last week never happened, not always the best end product but you can’t fault the lad’s effort. Not great that Firpoe bit the dust but Wober stepped up pretty well, although as Chapy said Tuesday will be a different kettle of fish for all the players. And now, at the risk of Tad having another breakdown and being admitted to a psychiatric unit, the negatives. The left hand side offensively is looking more and more like a cul de sac, Solomon as an inverted winger isn’t working for me. All the penetration is coming down the right from Bogle and James, we really do need a lot more from the left hand side in the final third. Also, I can’t remember the last time our centre forward actually challenged for an aerial ball from a wide area in the box. Farke needs to tell him to start acting like a centre forward. Anyway, I’m down there Tuesday and looking forward to it. Boro will be a real test and we need everyone performing at somewhere near their best. COYW.

| if james could cross a ball piroe could have had a hat trick. Time and again he was in space in the box and james never beat the first man.. anyone expecting piroe to battle centre half's should be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
piroe isn't a 9 in the traditional sense, he won't fight a centre half. never has. but he will always find a yard of space in the box. but he needs good service.
I think ramanazzi starts left when fit. Solomon looks good in parts but has never quite clicked consistently

Yeah agree. Wober did very well considering how little he's played. looked hungry and the goal was excellent movement. He's an asset at this level. Job done, played well. Big test Tuesday.

Yeh I posted it further back mate.
We have a team of midgets compared to many of the teams around us.
I think tomorrow we could have Byram RB Wober LB both will struggle with the pace of their wingers so will need cover from our wide men to help out.
I think Gnonto and James on the wings if nothing else but to help out our defence.

I wouldn’t worry so much about the size of some players if it wasn’t allied to a lack of pace as well. Solomon, Gnonto , Ramazani and Aaronson are all small and there might only be Ramazani with any real pace out of the four of them. We haven’t seen enough of Ramazani to judge just yet, but I don’t think even he has the speed of Dan James. The likes of Raheem Sterling and our own Aaron Lennon are tiny, but if you have genuine pace and are running into space behind defenders it doesn’t matter how small you are. I think the lack of height is a problem for us at centre forward when Piroe plays….or is it that he just never jumps for a ball ? The upshot is that any balls up to him are never won, if ever seriously contended, and we don’t have an aerial presence in the box. Rodon and Struijk are maybe smaller than your average centre back but both seem to compete pretty well in the air. Overall I’m not overly concerned about a lack of height.

Hope Bogle makes it, he’s been decent whenever I’ve seen him and carries us forward well. There’s rumours Dan James is to be rested, big mistake if they do.

| I think if Boggle has a slight strain then don`t risk him.
Hopefully Byram can step in and like Trebor says time to give Schmidt some minutes which if it wasn`t for his recent injury he should have had by now.
He might end up a very good signing.

| What a night. Best atmosphere I’ve heard down there for quite a while and we got a display to match. Some big performances in there last night, thank god they didn’t rest Dan James ! We’ve nobody like him in the team, scored one, involved in the other two, and how he got back from right wing to left back to make that tackle is anyone’s guess. The crowd even managed to sing his name last night which made a change. Big effort and a lot of bravery last night from the lads, and that’s the kind of result that will make the difference between play offs and automatic. It might seem churlish to even mention a couple of negatives, but Struijk gives me the willies at times and doesn’t always seem comfortable in the role he’s being asked to play. The other is Joseph. It might seem harsh to expect more from a player that has had such little game time, but he doesn’t seem to be the same player that looked ready to burst onto the scene. At this point it’s looking grim for him tbh. Would another start give him at least a chance to get up to speed? I’m not sure it would. Do we now look for a stop gap CF in January or hope to make the final push with what we’ve got ? One things for sure, we don’t have a centre forward at the club that is anywhere near Premier League standard if we do go up. That’s an issue for another time, just gonna enjoy that performance from last night.

Yeah, he's not doing enough is he Joseph, sometimes he looks a cracking prospect then other times he looks so raw, he didn't effect the game well enough last night, i do wonder if he needs a loan for 12 months playing every week. He's deffo got something but it's needing time.
Cracking game though and great result. Boro had a good go which is fair play. We got away with one on the no pen, but we've had plenty go against us.
James MOM for me, absolutely superb and i don't think there's a better attacking player in the Champ than him. So dangerous. Messlier yes was very good, full credit to him. Byram excellent too. That tackle which led to the second goal was world class. Aaronson also to his credit excellent, worked hard and kept the ball better. Midfield due excellent again. Good results for us also last night with Sunderland and Burnley drawing.. fingers crossed we can extend that gap now, Saturday will be tough away from home and another early kick off.
