To be fair, it's not exactly that he is not good enough for them. It's only because he is leaving them anyway.
That said, I said at the time I would have rather have taken Smith, and Huddersfield went and made that same move.

Even before the move his time in the team was limited. Teams seldom let their best players go unless its due to financial issues or NRL calling not sure Mullally falls into eitherof those two categories

Leeds & Kyle Amor???
Also Hudds didn't let him go as they offered him a new deal, he opted to turn that down to join Leeds.

Are you suggesting Amor was one of Leeds' best players before we released him? Or are you saying you think Mullally will turn out as good as Amor? Amor was very highly regarded before he came to Leeds but that promise didnt deliver for whatever reason the same cannot be said of Mullally
What kind of deal did the Giants offer him? Maybe the kind of deal that indicated his future lie elsewhere?

| I thought Mullally was very highly regarded before Hudds signed him after an impressive stint in Aus, I remember it being seen as a bit of a coup from Hudds when they signed him.

No I'm not saying Mullally will turn out as good as Amor.....but then again who knows, he might turn out to be a great bit of business by Leeds or he might make Ben Cross look like Jamie Peacock.
But I'm going to the take the highly radical step of actually waiting to see how he performs for Leeds until deciding if he's a good signing or not.....I'm not however going to start walking down the path of deciding he's going to be a poor signing for us because of his current situation with Huddersfield.

You are entitled to that position my view is hasnt shown anything at Huddersfield to suggest he will be anything but an average squad player. Which is all he is now in what most on here consider an inferior squad. Based on that not show how he will make Ben Cross look like JP. Garbutt is another matter

Your initial damning of his chances at Leeds stemmed from Hudds letting him go and why would they do that???.....Reality is you probably shot your load too early and didn't know it was a swap deal and probably the only way they could get Smith now was to give Wakey Mullally for the rest of the year.
Pretty understandable thing to do with Mullally leaving them anyway and doesn't actually reflect on Mullally's abilities, just his current contract situation.

Not at all - I don't see Joe Burgess being swapped around, bet Myler and Bridge get selected at Warrington, don't see Mosee being traded with anyone. Scott Dereau another. All these guys are on their way to other clubs and the're getting a game every week!! Perhaps its you that's spilt the jizz?
More to do with his place in the pecking order at the Giants i.e. pretty low down and his lack of genuine quality when compared to Huby, Crabtree, Ta'ai and Copzack. Hardly huge competition is it really? If he isn't good enough to force his way in against those guys then is he really good enough for us? When the Giants would rather have Dan Smith than him then again is he really good enough for us or is he another Yates, Feather, Cross, Kirke, Bailey i.e. a pretty average squad player that shouldn't be anywhere an elite club's squad?

You might be right....I know nothing of him really, but don't players fall out with their coaches for differences of opinion/reasons not connected with their actual abilities? Shaun Lunt for example (he didn't turn out too bad did he?) and of course Adam Cuthbertson

That's the thing David, you need a squad and there's a salary cap so you can't fill that squad with players of JPs quality and stature. You simply can't fit them all under the cap.
So clubs will have to take chances on the likes of Yates and Mullaley and hope they find a Chris Hill or an Alex Walmsley. They won't hit on them all but f they;re squad players rather than first choice then it's not a disaster if they don't pan out.

Agreed. The Leeds model of a couple of top line props and several fillers did very well, the players mentioned above have many winners meals began them, showing that despite their average abilities the balance of the squads were right

The Giants would rather have Smith now over Mullalley because they have him for the next four years potentially whereas Mullalley is heading off to their rivals in a few months.
No of course it doesn't always happen with departing players, but then again not all departing players are 4th choice prop kind of position and not every club is Wakefield who are as desperate to take the cash that was offered along with the swap. Would Catalans like to have Myler now given their injuries in the HB's? Yes probably but why would Warrington realise him now without their replacement lined up? Hudds could offer Wakey a short term replacement who was heading out of the door anyway soon.
We've got Garbutt earlier than planned because he couldn't get a game but doesn't mean he's rubbish. Wane hardly played Scott Taylor last year once he made clear he wanted to move to Hull. We got rid of Luke Burgess early when it was clear he was heading out the door. So whilst not often it does happen quite clearly. Trying to somehow judge Mullalley based on minutes/games played and that they've used him to bring in a new prop SINCE he announced he was leaving isn't any intelligent way to judge him or his future showings for Leeds. For all we know Anderson had big plans to play him throughout the year and sulked when he didn't re-sign. They once again ditched Lunt quite unnecessarily just like that mid-season.
We all know we aren't getting some world class prop that's going to be starting 13 every week, but nobody has ever pretended that that's what he is or going to be. He's an addition to the prop department who can hopefully show enough when he's here to be a consistant pick in the 17. Likewise Hudds aren't signing Smith because they see him ahead of Huby, Crabtree, Rapira, Kopczak.

| Leigh will release Brierley if they are unsuccessful in getting into SL. They have already handed last years Championship 1 young player of the year halfback Ben Reynolds a long term deal in back up of this.
They are rumoured to have signed Cory Paterson from Salford and are hopeful of landing Harrison Hansen irrespective of which division they are in.

I agree if you have a shortage of youth coming through - that cannot be said of Leeds who have at least two quality younger props who could support - Singleton, Garbutt, Cuthbertson, JJB who will be a prop next year - Yates hasn't panned out so why compound an error with another in the hope it will turn out better?
Nobody was more critical of Kirke than you - why are you suddenly suggesting that players of that quality is what an elite club needs in its squad?

Mullally was so wanted by the Giants that he spent the whole of 2014 on loan at Bradford - that says much about his place in the pecking order. It wouldn't suggest Anderson had big plans for him in 2015. Huddersfield are signing Smith because they see he has potential for improvement something they quite clearly don't see in Mullally.
There are issues between Lunt and Anderson there always has been.

He played 6 games for Bradford at the start of the season before returning to Hudds and playing 12 games, including a few starts near the end of the year......what does that actually say? Liam Sutcliffe had a pretty similar 2014.

Or they needed a replacement for Mullally who Hudds admitted had been offered a new and improved deal a few months before he decided to join Leeds instead.

Is this the same Lunt that Anderson wanted and got back from his loan at Leeds and then had him start at hooker in nearly every match he was available for for the next two seasons? Yeah seems like he hated the guy.

In a sense we're in agreement somewhat. I'd like to see Mulhern and, perhaps, Baldwinson get a shot ahead of Yates.
Where we are also in agreement is with someone like Kirke. Whilst I have no issue with the club taking a punt on a squad player Kirke was a first choice 17 player week after week after week and it was very obvious for a long time what he did or didn't offer.
FYI, I believe that Yates has already shown he offers more than Kirke, not that it's a very high bar.

| With our first choice props next year being Cuthbertson, Garbutt , Singleton and I'd guess whoever performs best out of the rest will get the fourth spot.
If McDermott is wanting to use cuthbertson at LF then the addition of Mullally makes some sense.
Yates, Walters and mulhern haven't really impressed with the small minutes they have been given.maybe they will be farmed out on long loans with Mullally and baldwinson given chances early season.
If JJB is moved to LF that frees up cuthbertson at prop, if jjb goes to prop then we need less use out of those with less SL experience.
What are Mulallys stats like ?

| St George lost their 6th consecutive NRL match today and lots of moans about half-backs Marshall and Widdop. Some supporters even questioning whether Widdop would be there in 2016, the inference being that he would be playing for Leeds? It appears all is not well at St George's, they are blaming the halves and I wouldn't be surprised if they let one of the pair leave?

Marshall is a spent force and Widdop is like a lot of ex Melbourne players - take them out of the structure that Bellamy provides and they can't cut it. Adam Blair looked like a world beater at Melbourne now you wonder what all the hype was about.
Its easier to look good when coached by the best in the world and surrounded by 3 of the greatest players in the game. I cannot see the interest in Widdop - he looks distinctly average to me.

Don't be too quick to judge, this is from a review of last night's Broncos game:
"2. Wayne Bennett has got the best out of Adam Blair.
Blair is returning to the form of his Melbourne days after struggling throughout his time with today’s opponents the Wests Tigers. Master coach Bennett has a simple game plan and he has Blair performing a very simple role which is suiting the Kiwi international."
