| Shame, he's going to be a cracking player. Pity he seems to have a flawed character. At least it's become apparent so early on
Get rid, asap

| This doesn't necessarily mean he's definitely leaving does it? Still time for some negotiating/reasoning?
Very disappointing that it seems he's unwilling at this stage to fight for a place in the team, whatever position that may be.
Big decision for someone so young.

| Quote ="Gotcha"At no point, or that statement has the lad demanded a shirt. He told the club weeks ago he wants to be a fullback, not an half. The club see it differently. End of day though, that isn't all it is down to, I said his management company were actively touting. His reputation went up since initial talks. At no point though has he said he asked for a starting spot.
We have let one fullback go in last twelve months, that we will never have one as good for a long long time, to lose a good one again would be pretty poor from the club. I think that announcement was a mistake, if only shown by the comments since. They should have kept it in house, as I personally think they would have changed. That second offer is more than Wire offered.
I agree with your later comment though, for me if someone is going don't enhance the reputation further, look at next option.'"
So what guarantees does he want then?
There's a huge difference between saying i only want to play at FB & seeking actual guarantees he plays there.
Burrow wanted to play 7 but got on with it at 9.
Numerous players have been prepared to A. Earn their spot & B.Play anywhere for the Team.
Either way like i said earlier both sides seem to have got this wrong.

I imagine Leeds announcing that today is them drawing a line under the situation and fair enough from them because they can't wait around forever for a 17 year old to make up his mind when he's had plenty of time already and he's probably only delaying out of concern that Warrington might end up relegated.
Would find it quite funny if that's his destination and they end up relegated or at the very least sack Smith after this season and the new coach doesn't want to pick Walker at FB.

Good luck to Jack wherever he goes.

I wouldn't rule out Walker staying.

| Methinks there is much "smoke & mirrors" about this than the media-friendly announcements from both sides.
Walker (& his family/advisors/agent) will know that he will not find ANY SL club that will guarantee to play him in a certain position no matter what (especially not at 17 y.o.).
I think it more likely that there has been a breakdown in trust/communication or some fallout between Hetherington/McDermott & agent/player.
Let's just see if Walker gets a SL contract elsewhere which GUARANTEES him a dedicated position (this was the stumbling block stated by both sides).

| Leeds are right to stick to their guns. What did Walker expect to happen, Leeds tell Golding he's been transfer listed and have a 17 year old as the only specialist full back. I wouldn't rule him out staying completely, this could be a sly move by GH to put pressure on Walker signing a new deal, but him staying is very unlikely.

| I agree. I think both sides have been foolish. had leeds made a decent offer I'm sure he would have signed.
but he's been very naive with regards to his agent. he's a massive talent. I hope he stays and I wouldn't rule it out

| Wait until the Leeds fans Boo the $hit out of him and call him all the names under the sun. He will go home and cry his eyes out. He is a bloody child (some of us should remember that). He has been let down by Show Me The Money big time).
GH knows exactly what he is doing. The kid is gonna be a Leeds hate figure for his entire career if he's any good.

| I can understand the anger and disappointment from the Leeds fans but i think some of you are being rather unfair on him. He is being labelled as immature etc but i think he has shown maturity and wants the best for his own career. If he wants to be a full back but Brian McD has said 'no i want you to play at 6' i am not surprised he doesn't like it. The decision might come back and bite him but it might not. If the lad wants to be a professional rugby league player as a full back who are anybody to tell him other wise. It's like putting a goalkeeper up front as a striker. The lad has trained all his life to be a full back and if thats what he wants to do then i think he should be allowed to follow his dream. All speculation of course but the Leeds board have spat their dummy out here and hung him out to dry. It's a bit petulant to be honest. He isn't even old enough to vote yet and is being bullied by multi millionaire businessmen through the internet. Let the lad follow his dream, good on him for being headstrong enough not to be bullied.

| Good luck to him wherever he lays his hat. If he's not willing to fight for his favoured position now, what's he going to be like in the future? Can't have it handed on a plate in professional sport.

| I think Leeds have attempted to portray Walker badly. I'm sure he did not demand the full back spot: rather asked what his chances are given Golding has recently signed a long term contract. I get the impression this isn't the end of it and the article was released to out pressure on Walker, however, if he reads these forums he will probably be more likely to move on given the abuse he has received. I'm sure there is blame on both his agent and Leeds. Lets see how it pans out but I feel this might not be the end of it.
To give Golding a long term contract when unproven seems very daft now though and appears to have contributed to us losing a potential future star.

of course not that's bloody stupid.
if the money hasn't been so derisiry I'm sure he would have signed. leeds have more than doubled that original offer.
however the biggest culprit is his agent. jacks a kid. he's 17. his parents aren't around to help him.
for me he's being led by his agent

| Do you think Goldings contract has a stipulation that he will be at fullback, if fit for the duration? Show some backbone and fight for your position......that's what "teams" are all about. The club may see Golding as a good player, who has a future in one of several positions.

| I hope that Jack stays as he is a fantastic prospect and he could be a future super star, but ATM he is a 17 year old kid that is only starting his career
Maybe he should remember how Brooke Broughton,Micky Learmonth and Morgan Smith's careers have panned out since leaving on big money contracts and probably on false promises too from that particular club who have a record of being vultures circling junior talent at other clubs and offering silly money in the hope that they get a super star down the line
If he goes the MEH and good luck to the kid as IMO we've plenty more talented kids coming through the academy who would love to wear the shirt that their childhood heroes wore with distinction despite starting at the back of the pecking order

| Ironic that the the ultimate club professional, Mr Burrow, who was asked to play where and when he didnt like or agree with, did so to the teams advantage, has announced his retirement.

| It seems likely all they've done is shown him just how wrong he is to believe the club would back down to his demands if he stuck to them. Which I assume is what his agent's been telling him. Well they haven't.

| I am shocked, yet somehow not surprised at how gullible and somewhat simple Leeds fans do get. Have an opinion by all means on a player, but what there is no doubt on here is how a thoroughly unprofessional club we have become. To put out an announcement public that boils down to nothing more than bullying a player for having the cheek to consider his options. Never thought we would stoop that low as a club. Seriously was there any need at all for the club to announce anything?

Cherry, you make some fair points, but I doubt he is being bullied. His statement seems to reflect some maturity to me and he certainly appears to know his own mind. But he can not seriously have expected to dictate to any club what position he would play. So for mine this is either naivety, or a ploy to bring negotiations to an end. I'll be sorry to see him leave if that's the way it goes, but I'd ask you this question. If he was a Wigan youngster, what would position would you want your club to adopt if faced with his negotiating position?
