I can see were your coming from, kind of.
But, I'd rather have Chairmen who actually care about Rugby League than think a Rugby Club is a "play-thing" spend obscene amounts of money for a "quick fix" then bugger off and leave that particular up a certain creek without a paddle.

| Quote ="G1"Absolutely. Rugby League is the ultimate team game. The sum is always greater than the parts.
Still, I get the impression there's a few posters on here that would prefer GH adopt the Koukash splash the cash approach to squad building which makes me wonder if they have had their eyes shut the last ten years or, more importantly, the previous twenty!'"
I think most posters want to see quality levels maintained, preferably by promoting youth. With the best will in the world the current crop of juniors are not a patch on the golden generation especially the three pivots. I don't/didn't hear many dissenting voices to the signing of the likes of Senior,Peacock, Ellis, Buderus. The club will never be able to produce 17 players of the required standard all at the same time. If the club is to maintain standards GH will have to splash the cash.

I expect that Moon & Hall can't wait to attack the Reds RH defence of Caton-Brown & Johnson.
My views on BJB have been vindicated also. We saw exactly what he can & cannot do last night.
As for Hock...

As proven in Football, stability is the key to a successful side.

| Salford are crying out for a Tim Sheens type coach.
They've got some good players, some distinctively average - they need a coach who'll put discipline and structure in place so that each player knows their specific job and exactly what they should be doing at any given time.
As others have alluded to Caton-Brown's defence is laughable, Chase is an exhibition player and Hock is just an imbecile.

| There is no problem with Harris as coach, he is a very good coach and can go a long way in the game. There is a problem with a owner playing fantasy rugby and dictating to his coach. Harris has not had influence in any of those signings. They were purely the result of a owner trying to play the big I am. You will struggle to find a coach who can work that way and become a success.

Yeah, I'd agree his impact has, overall, been positive.
But the cap prevents him signing more than the odd great from down under so unless his wealth is used to develop good English players all it's ever going to do is shuffle the pack of those produced by others. I'm not arguing in favour of scrapping the cap here either; if MK is to have a VERY positive impact then he needs to a) stick around and b) produce the goods instead of purchasing them.

Agreed on Sheens, but to be honest Salford will never get anywhere without the owner being prepared to give his coach time to build something. Coming out with quotes like 'iv'e had enough...' to the general public after one poor showing against the champs is not going to help matters. I'm sure we can expect Harris to be given his p45 very shortly, but on last nights evidence whoever comes in next will struggle to turn them into a top 8 side right away so we will be probably going through the same process in the summer. It will take time, Koukash is not prepared to give it which is why the project will not take off.

Was merely interested in his take on Harris. I thought wales were garbage in the WC, thought he did ok with Salford for about 6 games and am unsure how great a role he played under wane.

Exactly, a well known fact.
But to answer Clearwing, there was a reason why fantasy rugby man, the doctor, hired him in the first place, to replace the also highly respected and highly paid Noble. That was because his reputation and standing known in the game is rated very highly.
Sure he may not be succeeding at Salford, but like I said, under those conditions who would. He did an excellent job in previous roles.

From what I gather training sessions under super duper Harris have been 'top notch'

You may be right on Harris having what it takes who knows?, but taking the job in tha first place was a brave thing for him to do knowing what we all do about what is expected there and it could be about to back fire massively. Can't see other SL clubs taking a punt on Mr Harris on the evidence of his showings as a head coach so far so he may have to go to the lower leagues and begin the long re build of his reputation. Of course others have done this so not writing him off yet.

I kind of see where you are coming from, but I don't know that he doesn't care about RL. I share your view that it appears to be a bit of a play thing. But that doesn't exclude genuine passion for the game on his part. Most of us have hobbies or play things that we are genuinely passionate about. I also suggest that he has appeal as a club owner, because as far as I know, he wasn't a dyed in the wool RL stalwart. Rather he was attracted to the sport by what he saw. He has also, as everyone seems to have agreed, backed up that incomers interest in the sport by splashing the cash. I agree with those that argue he has done the splashing in a less than effective manner, but you can't fault the financial commitment, or IMO the passion. So again I conclude that the sport is better off with his commitment than with out it. Indeed we could do with a few more like him (financially speaking).

| Precarious business, being a coach. If Salford were to blow hull away next time out - and I'm not saying they will - then Radford's neck replaces Harris's on the block.
Must admit that I'm unconvinced about Harris's coaching abilities. In a world cup at which several "minor" nations excelled, his wales side were dreadful. Gotcha is probably right about the difficulties associated with working under Koukash and perhaps IH's standing in the eyes of those with close ties to the game but in the eyes of this outsider he's struggling to find his feet at head coach level.

If he could teach them to play as he once did then yes, in a heartbeat. But not if all he could teach was a selection of poorly-executed Wigan plays.

I just wonder how many decent coaches the good Dr will go through before he realises that the problem is not with their coaching abilities but with his dictatorial attitude to his club.
Given time and the amount of money Koukash is prepared to spend and any half decent coach will eventually produce a competitive team. Trouble is Marwan has spent his pennies and wants his bag of pick-n-mix now.

| Salford don't have enough good players to be a top eight side.
They've got Chase, Locke, Dobson, Hock and that's about it. The rest of the 17 are pretty much the sort of mediocre journeymen you see kicking around lower table SL clubs.
The forward pack isn't good enough to get the flair players onto the front foot, which means the only way they will win games is if they can grind teams down and defend well.
I said a while ago that Koukash would walk away when he realises that you can't buy instant success, and I stick by it. He won't hang around to see them playing in that middle eight every year.

| As a Salford fan I accept we were poor but it was just a one off and the fact that you're all talking about us does show your own insecurities. You wont finish in the top 4 I suspect and you know very well that we have been tipped to finish 6th on average. A few years a go us getting beaten wouldnt even have got a mention on this board so its funny you now all feel the need to enjoy our defeat. I'm sure you'll realise it was infact just a bad day at the office for us on Thursday once we've played you on April 12th. Im sure I'll enjoy it equally when we beat you in the Super 8's come August. Catalan in the playoffs come to mind...

I hope that you can keep running longer than your predictions Mario
The only reason that we mention Salford on this board is because your chairman reckons that he's going to own the best SL club, and own an NRL franchise club etc etc
He's a bit of a self publicist is he not?
Does he just crave a sport that will give him easy publicity in the media and hence his involvement in RL?
IMO He will be gone from your club very soon and will be in pursuit of other great Public Relations exercises that further enhance his ultra ego
Maybe Ice Hockey or Basketball or even Formula One might take his fancy next eh?

Can you honestly say it's a one off?
The fact people are talking about Salford is pretty much solely because your Owner has bigged you up.....then subsequently said "he's had enough."
And you make Thursday sound like some rare bad day, reality is they haven't had many good days since Koukash took over......even that guy is realising that, both performance and attendance wise. It's about time you accepted the guy's patience is wearing thin and that their's a very real possibility that he'll move on.
