| Quote ="El Diablo"Billy, how strong do you think the Samoans will be? I don't know a huge amount about a lot of their players, and many of the ones I do know I haven't seen play in a while. There are a lot of NRL clubs on their squad list. How many of them are playing regularly and making an impact? It doesn't look like a particularly soft side to me. Have they had a warm-up game? If not, our decision not to looks a bit rash.'"
I've not seen any reports of Samoa playing any warm-up games so the answer is probably no.
Tasty looking line-up particularly in the forwards who can get on top of the opposition for periods. Some of their backs are beasts too. They gave New Zealand a right hiding for 40 minutes in the RLWC last year which was probably the most entertaining game of the whole tournament in terms of huge hits. Didn't turn up against Fiji in the QF but smashed them earlier this season to qualify for the 4N.
I think their halfbacks are ordinary though and that'll prove to be the main difference in the end. Ben Roberts in particular is an enigma with occasional flashes of brilliance often overshadowed by bouts of going MIA.
I predict without masses of confidence an England win by around 10 to 16 points after weathering several physical storms.

| This could be a real banana skin game.As Billy says, the Samoa pack has a fierce look to it and we will have to expect them to come right at us, they will see us as the winable fixture of the 3.
I think we will sneak home by 6-8 points but a defeat would not surprise me.

| Would like to see the Samoa team. However due to it being on premier sports very limited audience. Not paying an extra 10 quid for the channel. However next year I will be ok. Become very bored with SL. Only really had an interest in the Leeds games even some of them were boring. Used to watch all the SL games on sky but not value for money anymore for me.
Ending sky sports subscription, mum still has it so can sky + Leeds games and subscribe to premier sports and get the NRL games

| Probably a good time to be relieved that Joel Tomkins is playing. He will be up for a bit of physicality in the forwards. I'm never sure that Joe Westerman fancies it quite so much. The idea that Farrell is too lightweight gets an early acid test. But he will at least be tenacious and he doesn't take many backward steps. We've picked a big bench too.
Are all the games on Premier Sports? I don't do paying for telly, but at least I have access to friends or family with Sky Sports. I have no access to Premier Sports.

We have a heatwave starting Friday so it might be a shock to the system for the majority of the players having to play in this heat. Even the Sydney based players won't have that much experience starting a game in the 30s. One thing that worries me, and just from watching games in hot weather in the UK, is that the team's normally don't turn up. Samoa are no pushovers and have a big pack. Lafai is a big loss to them as he's probably the best centre in either team, but if we aren't careful we could be in for a Big shock.

| The other factor in the heat will be how fit everyone's kept themselves. A lot of the England team were playing until fairly recently, but most of those that weren't would have known they were going to get picked and hopefully kept themselves fit. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a couple of the Samoans weren't even aware they were going to play until fairly recently.
I should also add that it won't be 30 degrees at 4 p.m., and it won't be that humid either. We're nowhere near that level of heat yet.

And Farrell, who looks fantastic so far this morning.
Ryan Hall defensively again looks questionable.

| And O'Loughlin. Come on England, stop those errors and penalties. Giving NZ too much ball from these. We're the better side but 4pts down now.

| I think the whole squad had a good game. He had a good kicking game, he distributed the ball to his forwards and combined with Widdop as good halfbacks should. SO yes, I do think he AND the squad had a good game. If you want to pick up on individuals, look at the key knock ons from Ferris, Hall and Graham. But rather than focus on the negatives, I see and England side that was better than the one that played in the world cup and can't wait to see my country play again. Country before club.

| Agree with Gotcha about Farrell, think he's been very good this tournament and all that was lacking was hitting him with a good crisp pass for him to run onto at times.
Joel Tomkins, well as has been mentioned previously the last few weeks. His only contribution of note was to do his old trick of running in to protect his little brother. Ferres, I mentioned earlier this year that whilst he had a good WC that I wasn't sure he could repeat it at international level and I don't think he has (granted he was asked to play a bit of dummy half when he came on today)
Speaking of the hooking role, whilst Clark went well I think we really missed Roby in defence. Whilst words like "dreadful" are a bit OTT to describe Matty Smith's performance he was pretty disappointing, too many nothing kicks.
I'll predict that they'll be a few going OTT and saying the usual stuff like England are cr@p and we'll never win anything but just look back to our last few visits down under. The 4 nations of 2010 and the 2008 WC when we were well behind them, granted we haven't beaten the big two this year but (as well as last year's 2013 WC) we are closing the gap as I think we've lost that fear factor when facing them due to several of our guys going over their and matching or excelling the opposition in the NRL. It's quite similar to Warrington record vs Saints a few years ago, they found every way possible to lose to them but eventually they got over the line. Had this 4 Nations been held in England it might've been this year.

| I think some of the criticism of Smith is unfair he's been ok, he's never going to skip round defenders and make many breaks but he's given England shape and control. Widdop has been the big disappointment for me he was billed as the player whom would add spark the England midfield but he's been the invisible man in this tournament. if Johnson was in the England side we'd have won that game comfortably IMO.
England's main problem though throughout the tournament has been their line speed . They gave NZ far too much space, especially close to our line.
Full credit to both teams though on a classic test match.

| Usual story, more players making up numbers than actually being world class. 2 workmanlike performances against the big 2 but ultimately that isn't enough. Big wraps to our front row - easily the best in the comp.

| we was very good again today, pleased with the tournament as a whole if of course gutted by the constant defeats at the death.
The halves have been ok overall.I see Matty Smith has become the scapegoat in that area now Sinfield has gone but to me he has been the better of the two, and justified his place.Widdop has gone in with the big reputation from the NRL this year but if it was Sinfield out there playing the way he has the 3 games he would be getting hammered for it.Nothing more than average for me and has created very little.Sinfield created more in the semi final second half last year than Widdop has all tournament, i certainly expected more but we should certainly stick with him.
I am again looking forward to the 3 test series with the Kiwis next year.Love international RL when it is played like it has been for the last couple of years,How far we have come from the farce of the WC 2008 and when we looked like boys against men in 2010.just need to get the right side of these close games now!

| Second row is a problem internationally. Farrell has looked good there in this tourniment and has been impressive. Ferres, and particulary J Tomkins have been big let downs.
The tourniment as a whole has been impressive in that Aus have come back to the pack and Samoa have hit up to make it a much more genuine 4 nations tourniment.

Agree with that. We've come a long way, and as Robbie Paul said this morning, we just need to break the back of it in terms of winning these games. I think it's possibly a psychological issue now similar to the Leeds side prior to 2004.
