I think as soon as it was a choice between Hudds and Leeds/Saints then I think it was a decision already made. The opportunity to sends Leeds or Saints away to Wigan to knock lumps off each other is probably the biggest reason. Though Wires record v Hudds recently will have been a factor too.

I'm quite pleased really. I'd rather face Wigan in the semi than the final, and I'd rather face Wire in the final than the semi.

If Hudds get through then I don't know what happens.

But Leeds had a hum dinger against Wigan (and Catalan) last year and it didn't stop them from going on to beat Wires in a tough match.

I don't understand it either. You can debate the relative strength of the teams, their playoff records and head to heads all you want. It's irrelevant. The bottom line is, in clubcall you pick the lowest ranked team and get on with it.

If i was a warrington fan i'd feel very uneasy about this decision. They are under more pressure to win now than if they had picked leeds.

Wire's decision makes sense. They've gone for the option they see as providing the best chance of staying in the comp. Their strategy was never going to revolve around how best to put Leeds out.

Shocked they picked shudds, but I would have picked them out of the other 3 options

The extra day's rest is a bonus....and Warrington in the final will be tough but I believe Leeds will have it in them to go round one more time. If Huddersfield do manage to beat Warrington then Leeds will be in an even greater chance of winning.

What on Earths the matter with em?one part they are moaning because it was them that got picked,then its lets get em and hope we injure them when/if they beat us.If anything they are disrespecting Wigan wanting to go to the DW

In the end you have to win the games put in front of you and the club call only adds pressure to the club that calls it because they are saying we can beat you to the other club. Simple as that.

Everyone seems to be of the opinion that Club Call is a gimmick.

Yet people seem to think it carries a huge weight as well. A contradiction in terms?

But that's the bit that confuses me, Smith said (IIRC) that he thought the whole thing was a gimmick and would always choose the team that was lowest ... but they haven't, they've actually given credibility to it.

I agree, Warrington were always going to pick Huddersfield on the basis they've had good results over the course of the season. Though I'm sure about 8/10 posters from Leeds and Wigan have told us repetatively that the league results mean nothing come the play-offs.



The other possible reason is Warrington have known since Thursday night who they were playing, so from training on Friday they could start to properly prepare and even earlier in the week they could have had a good idea as they stated "we were always going to play the victors of the Giants vs. Hull game". I think for the first time a club has used club-call properly and to the best advantage they can.

Did we really all want to watch repeats of week one? I certainy didn't. We've now got two potentially great semi-finals.

That's where it's all a bit moot. We'd have had potentially great semi finals whichever way it went.

Morley's confirmed they picked Giants due to their domination over them so far this year. That makes sense. Some will say that will give Giants extra motivation.........but they shouldn't need any.
