| Quote ="El Diablo"Err, you can milk a sheep. Sheep's milk is available in most farm shops and sheep's milk cheese is very pleasant, though more common in Italy than here.'"
I didn't say you couldn't milk a sheep. You can "milk" an aphid (if you're an ant), although it's not really milk. I was merely commenting on the common usage of metaphor. "Fleecing a Sheep" was a common metaphor for the cheating of simpletons, not milking them (the sheep, not the simpletons).
And I was only joking.

Sir, we at Southstander.com do not have a sense of humour that we're aware of. Please take your jests elsewhere.
I understand the Wigan board is an open forum where so-called 'banter' from rival fans will be welcomed.

This does of course raise the question of whether the metaphors were mixed or whether the departure from an expected (and cliched) metaphor is perfectly valid because one can (as you rightly agree) milk a sheep.
A true mixed metaphor would be where one metaphor and another are confused together as in, say, "The train had steamed away leaving him stranded like Canute on the beach".
Actually I've put a tautology in there too, can you spot it?
You must also admit the nice juxtaposition of "milking" and "churning" in Mr Gilder's post, cheesy though it might seem.

I am still trying to work out how you "milk a penalty". Is there a Penalty Cheese that goes with that?
You must also be able to milk a Richard.

You'd need to talk to Messrs Tomkins or O'Loughlin for a definitive answer answer on that one
Quote ="DHM"Is there a Penalty Cheese that goes with that?'"
Well, it can leave a sour taste.

Lost me there, sorry.
