| You cannot defend that tackle no matter which team you support, and yes paul wood should of been banned as well. McGuire knew what he was doing and went for the cheap shot, all we ask is consistency in our game.

Consistency is great but you're comparing two completely different incidents (McIllorum) and McGuire. McIllorum's was a high, late, premeditated tackle when laffranchi's back was turned. Mcguire's tackle was on a man who was falling, if he had done what he did 1 second earlier then there would have been no issue, it was in no way a cheap shot, he's hardly the kind of person who throws his weight around. It was still a bad tackle but it doesn't deserve the se punishment.

he Was using Paul Wood and the wembley punch (which he got off free with) as the example and not Mcillorum.
IMO it looks bad in slow motion, head high shots always do, but i reckon Mcguire was not looking for the hit around the head it was meant for shoulder contact and was just poorly timed. He will probably get a game ban and as Leeds fans we couldnt really argue but if the powers that be do let him off i really dont think it would be the scandal that some are making it out to be.

| 100% accidental, McGuire was not expecting Anderson to be on his way down and it was too late for him to react and pull out.
However he got it that badly wrong that, if I was a Wigan fan, i'd be going berserk if he didn't get banned.

| I think that's the thing RhinoNeil, they are going beserk already and they don't even know the outcome of the enquiry. Imagine what they will be like if he get's off.
FWIW I think he'll get banned, one match, no more, but the Wigan fans desperation to get him banned to me shows how worried they are about Friday, I mean, how bad would the Mighty Wigan look if they got beat by inferior, small time, little old Leeds ???

| Is this RL we are talking about! You'll always get late and high tackles. The real issue I'd not that the tackle was late or high it is what can we do to overcome Wigan without the speed and inventiveness of Danny. The young lads are going to have to play out of there skin but we can beat Wigan.

| Thing that will probably see McGuire banned for this challenge was the earlier in season 1 game ban for his challenge on Kearney in Bulls game. Probably will be classed as another 'sloppy' tackle.

| The league papers letters page is full of whinging goons. Crying over poor mickey mac getting banned while nasty leeds run the RFL. They must be really scared about playing us. Or are simply small minded, insular, f#ckwits. Or both

| I will now prepare to be called blinkered. I will probably also be called "bias" since nobody can speak English anymore.
Here goes:
I really can't see what was so horrific in the tackle. Forearm caught the head of a player on his way down. It happens all the time, and I can't recall that many bans being handed out. Total non issue. Penalty sufficient. Haven't seen the McIlorum incident, so no comment to make, other than if it was the same as McGuire's he was very unfortunate to get any ban, let alone 3 matches.
Oh, and there is no way in this world I would have banned Paul Wood for that little love tap in the Cup final either. Not netball is it?

I agree on all accounts
Macilorums was a lot worse (youtube) and I think his ban was not helped by his previous actions

| With the way Wane and tomkins have been going on and cleverly influencing the RFL decision cannot see anything other than a ban.
It is not a comparable incident to the mclorum tackle. It was accidental contact with the head not pre meditated hitting a player high who doesn't have the ball.
1 match ban for me

Erm, just watched it. Exactly the same.
If by "exactly the same" you actually mean "totally different."

I hope he gets a £300 fine and no ban due to previous good behaviour and then goes on to deny Wigan a last minute winning try by obstructing a Wigan player.

Good analysis
It was a must win play off game, no quarter given, none asked. It's bound to get a bit tasty, that's what makes RL the game it is. Both sides put a few cheap shots in (accidental or otherwise) yet this was the only one pulled up. If Wigan fans want to believe their angelic team won't try to win at all costs on Friday, they're deluding themselves.
Wigan don't like McGuire, just as we don't like Tomkins. If any other player had done the same challenge they wouldn't have even mentioned it. Oh hang on.........Fakir did, and Westerman too the day after! To put it anywhere near the challenge by McIllorum proves they are incapable of reasoned judgement & that they are genuinely worried about Friday.
Maybe they would be better off watching netball
Ps hope this rain keeps up

What? Are you really so keen to see poor Danny punished by the Rugby Gods? Don't you remember what happened last time he tugged a Wigan player's sacred shirt? Do you think the Gods will be so lenient next time?
You're a bad, bad man.

I laugh in the face of the Rugby Gods. If Danny is to be sacrificed then so be it. Another will take his place.

Agree entirely with this. And so would Wigan fans had it not been Leeds, and about to play them.
The McIlorum incident was a blatant attack to the head, where he actually jumped up at the player to do it. Completely no similarities what so ever with this one.
When the player was hit in the head he as down level below Danny's waist. How can that be classed as high tackle, despite hitting his head.

You mean still give a penalty away, still enabling Wigan to win with a penalty goal that's 30metres nearer to the posts than it should be, only for Pat to miss?

| Danny to get off with a no case to answer, first contact shoulder
then knocking out Tomkins on Wigans first set of 6 with a blatant high shot missed by all the refs and touch judges
Ripping the ball over the line in a two on one ball steal and scoring from it to even up the game with two mins to go. From the kick off he scoot from Dummy half on the 2nd and gets you to the half way line, a shocking pass on the 4th that takes you back just behind the half way line and he then on the 5th drops a Joe Lydonesque dropgoal to win the match.

Ha ha, quality!
I would absolutely love it (Kevin Keegan style) if that happened. Would equally love it if both blue & yellows put both red & whites to sleep. See you at Old Trafford!
Think you've a better chance than us though

| I love the way on these forums (and i mean ALL of them not just this one) that if one of your own commits a foul it's 'accidental', 'poorly timed', 'not in his character' etc but as soon as an opponent does the same it's a 'pre-meditated assault'.
McClorrum deserved his 3 matches, it probably would have been 4 had he not been sent off in the first half. Maguire wasn't late like McClorrum's and Anderson was going down which has to be taken into account. However it was a dangerous swinging arm which made full contact with the head, deliberate or not (and only Maguire can tell you whetehr it was) Maguire has to take responsibilty for it. He will probably get 1 match which is about right although 2 wouldn't suprise me as he does has previous this season.
