Flip it.
Just because you were one hell of a player doesn't by default make you the guru of teaching.

Hence the absurdity of successive governments' policy to batter teachers with the ofsted snapshot on the day and trumpeted league tables' misguided importance mantra.
Making a teacher in a financially stretched school with poor resources and huge class numbers responsible for the failings of numpty, brain-dead kids and hopeless non supportive parents is one of the biggest state crimes of recent years.
Now they're talking about paying teachers on the basis of their pupils' exams successes....which sane, right minded teacher is going to want to take on a set of deprived, parental unsupported inner city school kids ?
Who is going to want the renowned thickoes from the earlier schooling years, fictitious for this posting, Johnny and Phoebe, in their class? Bluddy barmy.

Id rather have Steve Turner or Anthony Quinn than David Williams and Moltzen over Minnichiello - purely on utility.

Sika Note more like. Vastly overrated in my opinion - and certainly not worth the money he would expect. I think Manu is one of those 'slightly better than average' players who are made to look great playing in the best structure in the game - and guided around the park by Smith, Cronk and Slater.
Bellamy is the master of getting the most out of these players by using such a good structure and the nouse and skill of Smith, Slater and Cronk. Adam Blair is a much better player than Manu and he is struggling at the Tigers now that he isn't in the Melbourne machine. Bellamy must have been laughing is c0ck off at the money Wests have paid Blair, knowing he could replace him with another 'plodder' who will do pretty much just the same job.

I've thought the same about Saints in the past. They have been one of the best structured sides of recent years, with players able to slot into a role comfortably. Obvioulsy they have some class players, but because of the structure played by the team, even when the likes of Roby or Graham were absent their understudies usually fitted in pretty well. THey have gone away from this recently I think

Both Manu and Blair have looked considerably more than "plodders" when playing for NZ. It's not all down to Bellamy.

I don't think either have looked brilliant on the international stage - certainly not against Australia anyway.
I'm not saying they are plodders, infact I said Manu was slightly above average, and that Blair was even better - but, they are both made to look considerably better than they actually are by playing under Bellamys structure. Blair has been average at best all season with the Tigers - if he was as good as people thought, he'd still be running good lines and beating defenders, but the truth is, this year he has looked every bit a plodder - and yes this may be because he's settling in to his new team - but alot of it is down to not having the structure and Smith, Slater and Cronk creating space and quick plays for him to run at the back of the ruck.

Then again, did you see the "maths teacher" on the BBC's lottery quiz thing on Saturday night? Tattooed, thick, fu**wit. At least she was confident on how many sides a cube had (as was my 9 year old). All my science teachers at my Leeds comp had first class degrees in their subjects and they were smart. My chemistry teacher's idea of a hobby was to do greek O level in a year (he got an A of course). The overall quality of teachers has plummeted I'm afraid (that doesn't mean there are not good teachers). The thick Huddersfield dip$h!t that runs the school we moved our son from this year is a prime example. He's not fit for purpose and he dresses like a vagrant (hardly seems fair for a head who always seems to have food spread down his badly fitting polyester shirt to criticise pupils for not complying with school uniform regulations). Then there is the idiot they wheeled in to "teach" science - she was also the religious education teacher and a prominant creationist at the local nutter church. Science for fundamentalists was the 30 minutes a week they got.

Fartown....now that brings back some memories. Cold, windy, crumbling reminder of how long it's been since Hudds won anything. In fact, I've never been there to see Leeds play Huddersfield, they weren't in the same league. For some reeason the RFL thought that the total dunghole was a suitable place to play cup semi-finals. Last time I was there I seem to remember the roof of the stand had just blown off.

Pay peanuts.....etc etc
Successive governments have revelled in battering teachers owing to the public perception of the 'easy' life that teachers lead. It's a profession: compare it to the salaries commanded by other professions. If you want the best then you need to attract them with a worthwhile salary.
You also need to make it easier for heads to get rid of the types you highlight.
For the best example of how to value your teachers look no further than Finland.
Rant over.
Well nearly....why the 'ell do we allow divisive, bigoted religious schools for child indoctrination to be set up with state (our) money ??? Bugs the hell out of me. Viva la France.

The plan was never to sign both Mini and the"Wolfman". It depended on GH's and Brian McD's view of filling the fullback position after Webb leaves at the end of the season. One option is to recruit a specialist experienced fullback (Mini) or the other option is to move BJB to fullback and bring in an experienced winger (Wolfman) to replace him on the wing. Both options have been investigated but I don't know which has been finalised. Smith was not considered to be of the required standard.

Could the club not persuade Webb to stay rather than implement either of these less than perfect options ?
Or is it Webb that doesn't want to stay ??

I don't know but probably a bit of Webb wanting to go (for a better contract) and also GH wanting to bring in a new, quality and experienced fullback. The Roosters fans still really rate Mini and want him to be given a new contract. With Catalan interested in Webb it looks like he's OK.

Neither has age on their side. However one guy is a proven effective working cog in the bigger machine; the other would need to learn .....

Mini cheddar plays full back alot different to Webb and the team would have to re structure it's attack.
Out of the two options you list signing mini would be my choice over signing williams. I cannot see the point when we have some very exciting young wingers in the team already and waiting in the wings. I initially would have liked BJB at full back with Chisholm going on the wing, but BJB seems to have a good partnershiP going with Watkins.
What about a third option a quality centre with hardaker to FB

That is another option but for whatever reason it was not followed up. Over in Aus for both Mini and Williams there has been no news yet in the media about any contracts for next year but something is expected to come out in the next couple of weeks.
