| Quote ="Clearwing"Not for playing reasons, granted, but I'd wouldn't be too chuffed to see him try a move like that on Burrow or McGuire. Landed the elbow on Jeffries' chest, could easily have been his throat. Had he done so Jeffries would have been in serious trouble IMO, more so than from a head shot.'"
More forearm than elbow IMO. I'm afraid I can only comment on what actually happened.
It was potentially dangerous and got the punishment it deserved.

I don't agree that a player should be sent off for a subjective opinion of intent over what actually occurred in the incident. Bridge dropped on Jeffries with a forearm to his chest. I'm happy for a penalty to be awarded in that instance.
Quote ="Omar Little"Moa's red was correct IMHO - he made contact with the head of Rinaldi, yes it was a shoulder charge but contact with the head is against the rules. It was accidental but dangerous and a red was justified - it's the defenders duty to take due care.'"
Shoulder charges are not illegal - not yet. Moa's shot on Rinaldi had an unfortunate outcome but as Barrie McDermott wisely opined it was mainly Rinaldi's fault for being too short.
The same can't exactly be said when Bailey collected Fa'asavalu with one at Knowsley Road. That incident wasn't even penalised IIRC.
Griffin was penalised twice for head-high tackles on Friday at Castleford. Should he have been sent off once or twice for his lack of care?

True. Mary knocked on from the hit, so it was scrum down with FGB replacing the bleeding Mary.
Thought you couldn't sub whilst a scrum was taking place?

It's a forearm. It's aimed at a prone player. It's exceedingly easy to interpret intent, IMO.

I'd have my palms face down and arms out. Avoid breaking my arm.
As would everybody else. It's why there are so many wrist injuries from falls. The natural reaction to a fall is to put your hands out, not your forearm.
Bridge could come up with better than that.

| All this coming from a team with Ryan Bailey in it, Bridge doesn't have a bed disciplinary record at Warrington atall. It was a silly tackle and at the time I thought he was off, If Tommy Lee can get off with just a one match ban for his attempted decapitation of Lee Briers then i think Chris will be fine.
He's devastating with ball in hand, has fantastic footwork and is an aggressive defender...Shouldn't be too long until his younger brother is in our first team, the future is good!

I find it best to break any face first falls with my face. Does the least damage aesthetically.

You might be right about the forearm, I'll rewatch it. I'd argue that it was dangerous, as opposed to potentially dangerous and that the RFL has yet to determine the punishment it deserves.

| Quote ="tvoc"So why in the thread opener did you state:
Had he elbowed the Bradford player in the face as you originally claimed then you might have had a point. He didn't though as you now appear to accept.
Bridge is a loose cannon, I still don't really understand why any Leeds fan doesn't want to see him lining up next week. I wish it had been Atkins or Waterhouse or Westwood from the dug-out that had 'elbowed the Bradford player in the face' instead.'"
My bad, i should have added attempted to, this is one of the few cases I agree with the use of "Intent" as it was quuite clear what bridge was trying to do, same as when Luke tried to snap Chase's knee in the 4 nations, he didnt succeed, but you can see what he was trying to do.
As for wanting him banned, Im looking at it as an RL fan not just a leeds fan. You cant let him get away with it

| Bridge, I think, has been charged with the use of a forearm. That's fair enough given it was a televised game and it's deemed important by the authorities to make examples of players in these cases.
I trust as fellow RL fans we'll all be equally outraged the next time a Leeds player does something similar.

Have to disagree, using Bailey v fasavalu as precedent, it was perfectly legal and IMO is one of the things that separates our great sport from kick and clap. However refs are not exactly known for consistency
However quoted barrie's "It was Rinaldi's fault for being small" I agree, had Moa flattened a London Prop he would most likely have got up dusted himself off and nothing the more would have been said, nor should it imo

Rule one of precendents - the facts and issues have to be substantially the same...[url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?834:2gkswp8aBailey/Fasavalu was not foul play because Fasavalu ducked into the tackle[/url:2gkswp8a
In any case where has this idea that Shoulder charges can't also be high tackles come from. It has no basis in the laws of the game which state that it is foul play if "when effecting or attempting to effect a tackle makes contact with the head or neck of an opponent intentionally, recklessly or carelessly".
In Bailey/Fasavalu there was no intentional, reckless or careless contact with the head. I don't accept that as being the same for Moa.
Quote :2gkswp8aHowever quoted barrie's "It was Rinaldi's fault for being small" I agree, had Moa flattened a London Prop he would most likely have got up dusted himself off and nothing the more would have been said, nor should it imo'" :2gkswp8a
I disagree this is exactly why it was a reckless tackle. Moa could see how tall Rinaldi was and therefore should have adjusted his technique accordingly. He made no attempt whatsoever to bring his shoulder below Rinaldi's head height which to me is at best careless and more probably reckless. [EDIT: I also now note that even [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?3339:2gkswp8aMr Moa partially agrees with me and entered a guilty plea on the basis of the tackle being careless but not reckless[/url
Also on this basis wouldn't any high tackle on Rob Burrow be fair game as anyone else would have been fine?!

Bugger was this Forum around in 1979?? christ I could have logged on on My ZX81 and made a load of controversial posts about Fred Lindop, and Billy Thompson.....plus I could have laughed at the pie eaters when they got relegated in 1980....missed out there havent I...?
By the way when did you start watching leeds? 1997 when you shelled out a world record £350,000 for Iestyn Harris,or did you just wait for the trophies to roll in seven years later.....?
lets face it you didnt win your first title until the 1960's and you had been going for 90 years if the Wiganers find that out they'll have a field day...they're dead interested in History and stuff.....
best of luck on Friday anyway.
